Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

In "honor" of my 1400th post, i am re-creating my first thread with a lot more thought and grammar. (Look in my post list, i'm not pulling that crap back out.)

You have $40, what will you do with it? Buy plastic! But what KIND of plastic? Heroscape. So, what sets do you buy?

(This will assume that small expansions are $10.)

1) Buy an entire wave.

Pros:This is a good idea if you have waves prior to this one, you instantly get all the new stuff in one buy.

Cons: there is a lower chance that you will get units that you need to fit in that army, or link with that hero, ect. No multiple commons. Tiles, and the Lack of them.

2) Buy four small expansions.

Pros: You can get sets that work well with each other, get multiple commons.

Cons: Makes buying whole waves that include hero sets you just bought slightly harder down the road. Hardly any tiles.

3) Buy a master set.

Pros: Lots of tiles, nice ammount of units.

Cons: Units, if your a decent player, you allready have all those guys, Meh, guess you can repaint 'em.
Rulebooks/dice/order markers/ETC,Enough said.

4) Buy two large expansions. (One terrain and one large figure pack will be assumed.)

Pros: More tiles! Nice powerful figures.

Cons: Figures might need others you don't own to really use to full power.

5) Buy one large and two small.

Pros: You can pick smalls that work nicely with the large figures. You get a lot of new units.

Cons: Only 4 tiles. Woo hoo!

6) Buy a castle set and a single small set.

Pros: Castle is very fun to build maps arround. You get figures.

Cons: While fun to use, the castle is hard to build a good map with.
Hardly any figures.

EDIT: Ironic, I'm recreating this becuse I think i've shaped up quality-wise, and I proceed to make a fleet of spelling errors, hope I got them all fixed.

Re: Best use of Cash toward 'scape.

Cool idea.
Under the current circumstances, I would vote for buy TWO master sets on clearance, since they are bound to fall to ~$20 @ Targert (some already have) and at TRU as well.

If you are new to the game, then a Master Set would win, regardless of if it is at MSRP $40 or discounted, since it's got the full package and everything.

To a player who already has both master sets, I would say either 4 small expansions (this choice always beats a full wave, since a full wave IS 4 small expansions, but is a restricted choice), or a terrain/large set with 2 small expansions, depending on needs.

I always find the master set to be best bang for the buck, with terrain sets in 2nd, but figures are what the game is based on, so they make up for their lack of plastic in miniature action.

All in all, it's really up to the buyer and his/her current needs/progression in collection.

After all, "best use of cash" is a opinionated "best" and "use of cash" has to do with value, which really is in the eye of the beholder here.

Re: Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

For me right now it would be a large terrain set and two small expansions.

Re: Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

I have one of each master set (including Marvel), two (come this weekend) RttFF, and tiles from my various small sets. I would buy the Nakita set, Wave six hero set, and the Ticalla Jungle.

Who was this addressed to?

Personally, I have one of each, but this poll isn't to address my buying questions that keep me up at night, it's just a discussion.

Re: Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

I think the hands-down best first purchase for anybody is Return of the Valkyrie. Even at full price.

Once you've got that, I'd go for Swarm of the Marro, because with two master sets you've got a lot of terrain to work with, and a lot of maps that you don't have to download. Plus, you get some common squads that come in pairs.

At that point, you've got many more heroes than squads, so I think buying common squads is the next step. I'd say always buy at least two of any common, because they are simply too weak individually.

Once a person has that much, they are obviously hooked, and not likely to need further advice. Individual preference and play style, combined with availability, will dictate further purchases.

(Good ideas in your initial post, Zanter!)

Re: Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

After I had the three Master sets (got 'em all for Christmas!), my first expansions were the Q9 and 4th Mass sets. I have not yet bought more than one of any common pack.

Re: Best use of Cash toward Heroscape.

I'm aching for some more terrain variations, so I chose Two Large Sets. Though you say it's one terrain and one large figures, I'll stick with one TT and one VW because I have neither.
