A Mobile Sniper
This is one thing that I do in some of my matches, usually ones with high terrain somewhere in the middle. It comes most in handy when that area is particularly close.
I usually draft Deadeye Dan and Theracus together, placing them next to each other in my starting zone. During my first move, I have Theracus move, and using Carry, place Dan right near him. I take them to the highest area I can go, and on my second marker, have Dan start sniping stuff. It usually works as what I consider it, an aggro mechanic. Most opponents will take a marker or two trying to get a flyer up to the area to stop him, and he usually can get some damage done, especially to low life figures. Its semi-effective, but not to be relied on for more than a simple starting attack. I usually drop Dan up there, then use him, and abandon the figures when something powerful comes up for him. I only have a small question about it, and that is if it's legal. Dan's power says that it can only be used if he hasn't moved this turn. But does Theracus's power count as moving? It says that you place the figure adjacent to him, so technically Dan himself hasn't moved, but there have been a few times when it was questioned. So if anyone can, please tell me if it counts as moving or not. One of us will be dead by the time you can touch me. And trust me, the odds aren't in your favor. |

You're not the only one who has thought of this. Theracus + Syvarris is deadly, as is Saylind + Syvarris + Sonlen. I prefer Theracus + Sonlen or Syvarris myself. Any figure with Carry or Summoning can do this, although Emiroon can only summon elves and can't fly, and Brunak can't fly and is 110 points. Saylind can summon ANY figure you control, so I sometimes like to partner her with Q9 or Braxas. However, you don't always get the summoning roll, so I like to put the #1 and #2 Order Markers on Saylind, with the #3 on the hero i'm trying to summon, and the X on another hero just to keep my opponent guessing (Provided I have more than one other hero). NEVER rely on Saylind with only 1 Order Marker on her. My friend does that all the time, fails the summon, and wastes the whole round with the rest of his Order Markers on a figure waaaaaaayyyyyy back in his start zone. BTW, welcome to the forums. *Handshake* Last edited by ParaGoomba Slayer : July 14th, 2008 at 05:33 AM. Circumcision? HIS body, HIS decision. A person should have the right to their own body. |

Re: A Mobile Sniper
I'll contradict, partially. Theracus' power does not count as moving for the target figure. As you say, it is placing. However, as correctly stated, you won't be taking a turn with Dan on the same turn as Theracus, so it's just an academic point.

Re: A Mobile Sniper
Well, I would think that the ruling on whether or not Dan has moved does matter, especially if you are playing in a team game, where a teammate can carry Deadeye during a previous part of the turn.
Deadeye Dan himself has to move for his ability to become illegal. A carry or summon is not considered a movement in terms of moving the figure itself for purposes of this and Wait then Fire Anyway, WELCOME DualReaver! A carry or summon will not have taken place during the turn in which Deadeye uses his special, so it is really academic in this discussion. As long as Deadeye does not move after revealing his Order Marker, he can use his special. |

Re: A Mobile Sniper
1. Yes, as Cavalier and others have stated, it's a legal tactic.
2. Is it a good tactic? I'd say its utility is often overstated, but you did a good job of mentioning some of its weaknesses. I really dislike Deadeye Dan, and find him to be one of the most lackluster figures to play in the entire game. 3. Welcome to the site, DualReaver! |

Re: A Mobile Sniper
Yeah Syvaris would be way better because he would have a higher and doulble attack.

Re: A Mobile Sniper
And yet Deadeye Dan has a chance of an autokill almost everytime.

Re: A Mobile Sniper
I used to fear DeD because my opponents would always get so lucky with his rolls. Now that his numbers have averaged out a bit more, I'm almost glad to see that wasted order marker sitting on DeD.
