video game customs

I've recently noticed the extreme lack of any video game-based customs in these threads. so, here is a place where I (and anyone else who wants to) can make them and share our creations. I should be making some soon, but if you get any ideas, go ahead and post them here.
note: no need to use actual objects for the pictures, I plan on using screenshots from the game itself.

Re: video game customs

I think part of the reason that there aren't an overwhelming number of video-game customs is because there aren't a lot of figures to use with them. After Halo Actionclix miniatures came out, there was a thread on Halo customs. Warcraft is coming out with a miniature game, so maybe we'll see some customs for that game. I also recently saw a thread for the "Guys from Contra" but the cards were pretty terrible (didn't even mention the specific names of the characters), and there aren't any figures to use.

If you did a search, I would bet you a hair from my chest that you could find customs for characters from Motral Kombat, Streetfighter, and Metal Gear.

Others that might be interesting, are the guys that were collected into the Super Smash Bros series (Mario, Link, Samus Aran, Donkey Kong, Pit, Mega-Man, Simon Belmont, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc), but I wouldn't be surprised if they've been done as well.

Other good ones would be Pac-Man, Q-Bert, the legions of characters from fighting games (I would be especially impressed if you went back to something obscure and retro like "Pit Fighter" or the original "Double Dragon"). Then there are RPG games like Final Fantasy, Ultima, Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, and Everquest. Lots to choose from!

Hey! I thought my custom was pretty sweet.

Contra Guys (Unique squad of 2)

Life 1
Move 5
Range 6
Attack 3
Def 3
Cost 80

2 Player
If the Contra Guys are within 2 spaces of each other at the end of the move phase, regardless of LOS or height difference, add 2 to their attack and def.

Down the waterfall
If the Contra Guys are more than 5 spaces apart, subtract 1 attack and def. When they are within 5 spaces of each other, regardless of LOS, or height difference, give them back their dice.

Laser
(It’s the same thing as Mimring’s special attack, but it has 5 attack and 7 range)
If a Contra Guy kills an enemy squad unit/ common hero, or destroys a destructible object, he gains the Laser. Place a wound marker on his base. Once he attacks with Laser, he may not use the Laser or a regular attack again until the end of the round.
However, the Contra Guy without the Laser is still free to attack.

That’s my power-up, *****!
Only one Contra Guy may have a Laser at any given time. If the Contra Guy carrying the Laser dies, the other Contra Guy can earn another.

Inability to Shoot Directly Downwards
Contra guys do not gain extra attack dice from height advantage. However, they can gain extra defense dice.

Re: video game customs

Sorry ParaGoomba, but the wording on that Laser ability is extremely cumbersome. I have to admit, it's pretty funny the way you captured the spirit of the side scroller game. But it just seems awkward to me, especially having to keep a marker on a figure's base, and keeping track of two different sets of stats on one card. There are also too many abilities to fit on one card. My suggestion is make each of the "Contra Guys" a common hero. Or make them unique heroes (their names are Bill Rizer and Lance Bean). That way, it's less cumbersome wording their abilities, and if one gets a special "power up," then you can put a marker right on his card (my suggestion for a marker would be a quarter or video game token).

Here's my suggestion to truncate the special abilities for each "Contra Guy" as individual heroes. This is Bill Rizer's card:

Bill Rizer

Life 3
Move 5
Range 5
Attack 3
Def 3
Cost 100

Player 2
If Bill ends his turn within 5 spaces of Lance Bean, you may take an immediate turn with Lance.

Power Up
If Bill destroys a destructible object, common hero, or squad unit, place a Power Up Token on its space. If Bill moves onto a space with a power up token, he gains Laser Special Attack. If Lance Bean has a token on his card, Bill may not pick one up.

Laser Special Attack
Range: 7. Attack: 5. Choose 7 spaces in a straight line from Bill. All figures on those spaces who are in line of sight are affected by Bill's Laser Special Attack. Roll 5 attack dice once for all affected figures. Affected figures roll defense dice separately.

Stiff Neck
Bill does not gain extra attack dice from height advantage.

Also, shouldn't the "Contra Guys have a leaping ability like the Shaolin Monks? As I recall, they could leap pretty high in the video-game, but I might be thinking of Shinobi.

I think they should cost less though. 100 points for each seems a little much for something with 3 life and a tether to each other. 75 points each? 65?
