From now on, I'll try to do what the Rev does, and just watch those threads, and then step out, instead of engaging in the discussion. We'll see how long that lasts though... |

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
I like the previews. I like them much more than wild speculation (or, even, calm speculations). I don't proxy though. And it takes me several games to begin to even think that I know how a unit or figure actually works.
Last night I played my first Glads/Blasts army. I made a lot of mistakes that I'll not make again. That's generally true for every new unit I play. It takes me plenty of "hands on" time to feel that I really "know" the unit. Guess I'm just a bit slow. <smile> |

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
Heroscape is my number one hobby right now. Cars and street tuning is in my blood so I don't consider that a hooby (I'm Hero Hot Hatch for a reason.) Despite Heroscape being my number one hobby and the fact that I love driving, it takes a lot of time to go heroscape hunting. I don't do it anymore. My collection is almost complete (with the exception of that elusive set of Drones and Minions.) Additionally, I want to take the time to digest the units theoretically before I buy them and then attempt to put the theory to practice. Many times it is not what I thought it was going to be. Like Rev wrote above, I need to play them a few times to really know them and their potential. I do make a lot of mistakes with most units at first. For instance, knowing what Arkmer can do allows me to conceptualize armies in which he could work or not or be fun or not, etc.
I don't care about choosing my army based on strategy. I choose an army based on coolness and personal appeal... even if it means that my units will die trying. Hail to the glory of HeroScape and bravery. |

Lonewolf has, indeed, taught me some of his tricks, but I was on the wrong side of the map when I was learning them!

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
Holy Mackerel!! I just read the card for Jorhdawn (couldn't help it). Christmas, Shmistmas, bring on the rest of the previews. I am excited about this unit. Wow!
Again, I apologize for starting this thread in the first place. I think I was having one of those Tom Cruise moments like at the beginning of Jerry Maguire last night. "Chewie should move 6, lumbering or not. He's got long-ass legs"-

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
I, too, am getting a little tired of everyday to every 3 or 4 day updates with new cards. If they are confirming stats of GenCon cards, go right ahead and post them. But please, don't post all the cards! I want some surprise when I open the packs!
Record: 20-16
All Heroscape unit cards total: 19,345 points Average/Card (208 ): 93 points Average/Figure (361): 53.58 points |

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
I take solace in the fact that living in Canada, I probably won't be able to find these packs well after their release date, so the board will be covered with their card long before I get them.
In fact, I probably only own about 30% of Heroscape figures, and yet I've read and reviewed every card on this site (I focus more on the books and their chat there, rather than much strategy or Theoryscaping). Plus seeing the cards in advance will help me decide if I actually want to get the pack right away, or focus on the other 70% of Heroscape that I don't have yet. |

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
A Train, I'm just curious, having never been out of the country myself (well, except for those 3 crazy days in Mexico when I was 20, but I digress), do you guys have Targets and Wal-Marts or Toys R Us in Canada? I know, probably a stupid question, but I was just curious.

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
I'm with the BRING ON THE PREVIEWS! crowd. I don't buy until I spy. I don't spend that much on 'scape and don't want to waste my cash. Actually I often wait until Spider_Poison's crowd has rated the units. I'm not going to buy any wave 8 until I see the cards. OK, except for the Marro Cavalry.

Re: What happened to Christmas in July ,er June?
Sign me up for the dark side.
I'd like there to be as few previews as possible and to have them as late as possible. There are few times when we, as a community, get brain-meltingly good volumes of news. Just Gencon and a new release that I can think of. We can generate the equivalent amount of excitement of a single card release by ourselves---tournaments, strategy guides, BoV maps,... I enjoy the overload. The overload also allows future hidden gems to emerge. With the previews every single unit gets subject to community-wide intense analysis. This greatly reduces the odds that a unit like the sentinels can slip through the scrutiny, only to be reinvigorated later by an inspired army build (RevDyer's 4th Mass x4, Sentinels x2). And I don't buy the blind purchase argument against previews. No-one is saying that the stats should remain secret for ever (actually, no-one but me is saying that they should remain secret at all, it seems). If you don't want to buy without seeing the stats, then you could wait until June 14th and see all of the stats then. I realise that I'm in a minority here, and I appreciate that Wizards are doing a great job of listening to what we want and giving it to us. But you're all wrong and I'm right |
