Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
Now that Truth has the anticipatory juices fully pumping with his blog post revealing the Wolves of Badru card ( http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=220 ) I'm eager to see everyone's ideas for 400-600 point armies involving them. I'll go first with a 500 point army:
2xWolves of Badru 160 Khosumet 75 2xAnubian Wolves 150 1xDumutef Guard 25 Warden 816 90 Mostly I love how thematic this is, though there are some nice synergies. Everything here with the sole exception of Khosumet has the potential to roll 5+ attack dice! On a road dominated map (such as Highways and Dieways) this could be a very competetive army. So what wolvish throught have been percolating through YOUR mind? ~Aldin, howling at the moon |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
Do you think the wolves of badru will be more like the venocs/aubriens or more like the armocs with respect to the venoc warlord? Maybe an army with only one squad as a bodyguard/clean-up for the darklord will eventually prove to be the best use of them.
80 Wolves of Badru 150 2x Anubian Wolves 75 Khosumet 180 3x Marro Stingers 10 Isamu 495 points You could also swap out isamu and one of the stingers for a third set of anubian wolves if you want, but I don't think it would be an improvement. Isamu tries to assassinate a key jandar unit. If none is available he plays the last-chance cleanup role. The anubians and stingers go out as the main assault force. Khosumet and his wolves perform the bulk of cleanup duty. Using the stingers even keeps it as a cool "kamikaze" themed army too. |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
I like the idea of using them as a one-squad bodyguard for Khosumet. They would be awesome cleanup.
Here's another direction: Wolves of Badru x3 - 240 Khosumet - 75 Raelin - 80 Agent Carr - 100 TOTAL - 495 The wolves are the bulk of your army, and you move them slowly with Raelin. When you need precision strikes, pounce and expect to die. When you need to hurt a large hero, use Carr. Oooo, I just had a fun idea! Wolves of Badru x2 - 160 Anubian Wolves x2 - 150 Khosumet - 75 Dund - 110 TOTAL - 495 Hunters and devourers! Rargh! Badru for squads, Anubians for heroes, Dund for comedy! |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
Like a lot of units, I think the biggest weakness for the Wolves of Badru is going to be Major Q9. They can't pounce on him. However, their special power will work great against most unique squads, and decently enough against Deathreavers on glyphs. Krav are another potential weakness, as are swarms of enemy common squads.
So, what army has an answer for Q9, Krav, and cheap enemy ranged squads, but has problems taking glyphs back? Krug, Swogs, and Arrow Gruts. Krug 120 3x Arrow Gruts 240 4x Swog Rider 340 2x Wolves of Badru 500 Anyway, I see you leading with the Gruts and Swogs early, and then sending in Krug once it's time. If he doesn't work, send in the hounds. They might also be used periodically to take a glyph back or try to get an enemy off of an important height when little 1 to 2 die attacks won't cut it. |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
I agree with Jexik. Q9 and ranged squads may be a problem, but if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Khosumet: 75 (I feel I must use him now) Wolves of Badru x2: 160 Anubian Wolves: 75 Major Q9: 180 Isamu: 10 Total: 500 This army is like putting together cats and dogs. But sometimes, they don't try and kill each other. Major Q9 does compliment the wolves, and will give them covering fire. Q9 can take out the ranged units, or another Q9. He may take out the entire army on his own, and he's not even in the core of the army, and if he doesn't, then without any more range, the wolves have the potential to dominate. Using only 1 squad of Anubian Wolves is a little risky and may be outlandish for some, but it's not bad in my book. 4 defense can get you along way. Isamu is a nice filler, to sum it up. |

Khosemet-75
2xAnubians-150 2xWolves-160 2xDeathreavers-80 Guilty-30 =500 points Send out the Anubians first. With a better Unleahed Fury, they should kill something. Take the glyphs with Deathreavers. Next bring in Khosemet and the Wolves. Clean up with Guilty.

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
Great looking armies so far. I like Stingers, Q9 and Krug as good ways to solve the Q9 question. Dund and Carr are fun picks too. Not quite feeling the rat screen, but J-Unit94 is welcome to come over and kick my can with that army once we get the figs
Jexik, while I agree about Q9 I can't help but feel that common ranged squads are actually very vulnerable to the Wolves who can bypass their screening elements and overwhelm their low defenses. With Q9 (or other large, high defense figs) as my main concern - and still going for both theme and synergy, here's my latest idea: 2xWoB 160 Khosumet 75 Dumutef 25 SBN 160 2xNagrub 60 Marcu 20 With Nagrubs, SBN is a superior hero killer. Marcu and the Dumutef not only are tremendously powerful for their price, but have a synergistic relationship that might come in handy against a particularly tough nut of some sort. It's also an "all melee" army (if the Wolves are considered to be melee units) that I think might actually be competetive against many of the tourney armies I've fought. ~Aldin, lunatic |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
There are two questions I ask when considering a competitive army, "Can this kill a Q9 army? Can this kill a 4th mass army?" As was previously mentioned, if you can't beat Q9, recruit him.
320 Badru x 4 180 Major Q9 Now you're ready for squads, and you can absorb pounce casualties. Too many wolves? How about a classic, but hated, combo: 240 Badru x 3 180 Major Q9 080 Raelin Who doesn't like 2 extra defense? Now the wolves act more like bodyguards for your tank. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24 |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
My group has been looking to play some 600 point games, so I am very much looking forward to fielding:
2xWoB 160 2xAnubians 150 Khosumet 75 Braxas! 210 I picture the Anubians coming out first with Braxas in tow trying to do as much damage as possible, then Khosumet and his buddies come next to take back glyphs and clean up the wounded. For a 500 point version, I will probably go with either J-Unit94's crew, or swap out the rats and cowboy for the AE! Having the AE would really keep people on their toes as you advance the werewolves I think, although it lacks glyph grabbing. |

Re: Wolves of Badru - what's your army idea?
My 2 cents
Wolves of Badru x2 160 Shades x 2 360 Sudema 500 Why? I don't know. It sounds cool. Also, the Wolves seem to me to be a great starter squad that can take down ranged common units well. This is something that the shades are not good at. Once the wolves are dead but have done some damage against ranged units, the leftovers have to deal with Sudema's stare or Shade Soul devouring (a pretty decent combo since they are effective against different kinds of units). Q9 is always a little frightened when shades are on the board, and Sudema's stare (unlike Braxas' breath) can also kill the robot. I see the wolves tearing up a 4th mass army at least on the first couple of turns, but a 4th mass army would probably do well against this one. Overall, this is a very fast moving army with the notable exception of Sudema who is best used for clean-up duty anyway. |
