Keglo's Maps (critisism needed) New Map 03/19

I am not a very good map maker at this time but I would like to start making tournament worthy maps, as they are my favorite to play on. I want them to be well balanced and to meet BoV standards. I have never played in a tournament and I only have the BoV maps to go by. Below is my first two attempts. They are two variations of the same map. I would like some feedback on these maps. Do I need to change anything? Is my glyph placement ok, or should I change it? Does it appear that they will be unbalanced in some way? If so, how? These type of things are what I am looking for. Any help/advise is appreciated.

Cool Breeze (After much tweaking and advice from Gamebear, LongHeroscaper, and others)

Bear's Breeze Gamebears version of Cool Breeze that he used to help me in map making. I find it far superior to my own, so I couldn't resist posting it.

They look pretty good. One thing I might suggest is to flatten out the starting zones a bit. When you've got such a rectangular footprint, it can be nice to break out of the 'put all the starting zones on the same 24-hex tile' mold. My other feeling is that there is a little bit of dead space on the ends of the map that might not see that much play, especially with starting zones that reach further into the middle than some of those corners. I would also be careful of how many 'sniper perches' you place around, because those can make life hard on melee units.

Certainly seems like a good start though.

I like the glyphs on Chrystal - nice little game of ring-around-the-rosie there - but on Diamond, they seem to be on the highest spots on the map, which could make it a pain for those trying to remove the glyph-holders from the glyphs (Rats at 5 defense = not cool).

I'd echo Jexik about the starting zones, and then just play the maps. If you enjoy the games, you're good to go. Otherwise, you'll probably see something you want to tweak. Do so, and repeat the process.

Looking forward to more!

Nice!

On diamond springs, I love the raised grass hexes that allow you to lay fire upon glyph-holders ( without a height avantage)!

Show us more!

Thanks guys for the feed back. I have made some of the changes that where suggested and have updated the pictures in the top post. Pleas let me know what you think of the changes and what needs done. I have not tested these yet, but will when I get a chance. Thanks again.

I love the way the stone now makes you subliminally want to run into the walls Love the Diamond changes, keglo - looks very appealing!

I've always found lone single-hex trees and glaciers to be less than ideal. These features work best as dual lane-creators and cover-makers and function maximally when grouped together to ruin sight lines from high areas and force action to certain areas.

Aesthetically both maps are nice, but I think Crystal Ford has more overall going for it. Keep building and keep playing, you've got a good knack so far.

I have added "Cool Breeze" for your scrutiny. Please let me have it. I want it to be a good map.

Cool breeze looks pretty, but also pretty brutal - how quick are the games on it? I would say with the small footprint and highpoint so close to the start zones it could be disasterous if you lose the first initiative roll.

It seems like it'd be fun for all-melee armies, though!

Thanks Miniandmee. Download links have been added. Please keep in mind that I will most likely be tweaking these maps after getting advise on them.

Your are correct Jonathan. The footrint is way to small. I posted Cool Breeze prematurely. I have taken it down for a re-work. I will put it back up when finished. I hope to work on it tonight. Thank you so much for the help.
