Hasbro cutting 200 jobs in Mass.

Not much more to it than the subject/headline. I'm not saying this has anything to do with delayed HS waves...but I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up in here yet (given the recent "sky is falling!" trend).

This was brought up in General. But thanks for the link in the right section.

It's not even 5% of their work force. It's business as usual.

I don't care about choosing my army based on strategy. I choose an army based on coolness and personal appeal... even if it means that my units will die trying. Hail to the glory of HeroScape and bravery.

True!
What infuriates me most is when, here in Tucson we have a Greyhound call center of 160 people. Now get this, they are laying off all 160 of those people and closing the building. What upsets me is when they do lay offs and keep all those in there Jamaica center employed. Keep jobs in the USA so people can work, make money and buy Scape!

I know it's off topic, but call centers and data entry and the like are all fairly low skill jobs(except those crazy 200 wpm typers I used to work with). Companies figure that it's a waste of resources to pay even the minimum wage for these services when they can be outsourced to other countries for pennies on the dollar.

Example, you need 100 hours of work done and can pay $500 for it. I offer to get that 100 hours done for $400. I hire employees from India and pay them $1 an hour, but it takes them twice as long. I spend $200 for 200 hours to get your 100 hours of work done. I pocket the difference.

The sad fact is that these numbers are very underestimated and that typically there are multiple middle-men taking cuts. My cousin does this for a living and it is incredibly easy to make a lot of money when you realize that we have places that pay $10 an hour for data entry and you can hire foreigners for less then a dollar an hour. Everyone wins except the US worker.

This is not the path I thought.
This is not the place I sought.
This is not the dream I bought,
just a fever of fate I've caught.

will take a hit? Its been taking a hit for the last few years...

In MI, all the mini malls, at least half of them are Vacant/For Lease around here, because no one can afford to keep a store open, and those that had stores, moved into smaller stores. Everyone is leaving MI to find work...
Soon it will be PA that will be hit the way we were, when Hersheys gets moved to Mexico.
Then other states etc...

I am all to aware of this.

The problem is when we Americans are in a possible Depression and these companies are adding to it. I really hope that you see this. I wish companies would quit trying to "save" a buck as the employees will not see a raise, but the tops will get bonus... If companies paid local employees, they'd have more money coming into our market and not to other countries. Those people can then put the money back into our economy.

Outsourcing is going to be the main cause to our coming next depression. The Global Economy was a great idea but it's going to lead to worldwide depression like '29.

That my friend is what I'm afraid of. It's just slowly happening.
