Here's a little recap of how my day went today....

So today at work I was moving some new computers from one lab to another (thats basically the gist of my job, moving computers around) Anyways I lifted up the last one I needed for the new lab and put on the stack with the others. When I set it down I got this really sharp pain in my back that almost made me pass out it hurt so much. I tried to sit down but that didn't help, it hurt so much. So I made it to the floor and just layed there for a couple of minutes, hoping the pain would go away.

After about 15 mintues I tried to get up but couldn't lean forward enough to stand up because it hurt too much. I was literally chewing on my hat to keep from biting my tounge off, I was in so much pain. I finally crawled to the front of the room to get to one of the few computers that was hooked up and got to my knees (which hurt like hell) and emailed my bosses, telling them I had fallen and couldn't get up. They came up and tried to help me but finally we just decided to call 911. We had some laughs at my expense, such as taking me out back and shooting me, sending me to the glue factory afterwards, funny stuff.

The EMT's or Paramedic's whatever they are called today came up and got me. They took me to the hospital, where I met 2 nurses, a secretary and 2 doctors. All of them asking me the same questions over and over again. After about an hour they decided to give me some Morphine for the pain, a shot in the butt. When my girlfriend got there I still could not stand up it hurt so much, so they gave me some more drugs. This time through an IV. I got a steroid, muscle relaxer, 2 different types of pain killers and some anti-nauseous pills. Holy crap did I fell good after those drugs were in my system. I have never been high before but I can now imagine what it is like. I was all giddy and happy.

I got home about 3 hours ago and fell asleep from all the drugs they gave me. I just took a Vicodin for the pain and damn does this stuff work. I really hope this pain is nothing serious and will go away in a day or 2.

Anyways, that was my day, how was yours.

Jeez man! Take it easy on your back - a little too late, I know, but if you happen to do lifting again try and wear one of those reinforcement belts, huh?

But I hate to be the harbinger of doom here , but good luck with that back the rest of your life.

I had the same feeling happen, once in a small way moving a bed in college, and then years later, just bending over to give the dog some food.
That second time, it gave way precisely as you describe, except noone else was home so I just crawled in front of the TV and vegged all day.

I couldn't do much for a couple days, cold packs or no (don't use heat) and my back's never been the same.

I see a chiropracter now (a GOOD one makes all the difference) and mostly am OK, just some stiffness from time to time.

But I'm guessin' you're gonna be one odd movement away from a lot of pain, for AWHILE.

Sorry to hear that, nether, seriously - you have my sympathy, man.

Thanks for all the warm responses. I am going to take another Vicodin in about 45 minutes and crash hard! Can't wait, I love sleeping so much.

I have been able to walk around tonight, it hurts but I can do it. So I think thats a good sign.
