Elstree's Maps: Hopscorch (2 player; 1xMarvel, 2xVW)
Hopscorch
The inspiration for this was a comment that R˙chean made about how cool Marvel asphalt and lava look together. I also wanted to try to make a map that used no regular master sets. We used this one at the 10/20/07 Seattle tournament and it seemed to be well liked. I know it looks flat and featureless, but I think it's actually fairly challenging to play. The molten lava impedes easy movement across the board and it's easy to obstruct the remaining paths. There are only a few safe places to stand, and note that all the elevated areas are lava field with the exception of that single asphalt tile dead center. Place your order markers carefully, and if you lock horns with your opponent on the lava field be prepared to fight for those safe spots or take some lava losses! (Note: If you don't have Marvel, you can build this with either of the other master sets. It just won't look as good.) Oblique view Overhead view |

That does look very cool, and pretty fun too.
I've found that the Asphalt also looks pretty good next to Swamp Water. When we do that, we often play it as Tar, which means that flying figures have to walk off it before they can fly. It seems like a lot of people are doing a good job of getting out of the RotV+2RttFF mentality lately. |

![]() I built the map and the lava next to the asphalt does look very hot! I tried a Marvel game on it, but Doom didn't get to throw anyone in. |

We used this at a friend's tournament when we realized we needed to make another map with the sets we had remaining. It was a fun map that provided interesting challenges of where to move.
