This guy makes me sick

http://blogs4brownback.wordpress.com...#comment-32527

This nut job is trying to end "the evil of video games" Read what he says. He thinks they are evil molester machines. He is such an ignorant old bas*****

The point of this thread is to discuss this monsters point of view, and also to answer my question. When a kid gets hurt, why do video games, movies, ect get blamed? If your kid is getting nutty from playing DS, why are you letting him play it? Why go on a movement to ruin everyone elses fun? IF your kid is being affected by media, how havent you relized? How does a kid become disturbed, or raped in a day? Its not medias fault, its the parents who dont watch there kids fault. But when little Billy shoots himself or gets raped, why cant the parents take the blame?

Since there are many parents on this site, what do you think?

Things like this happen because most people are idiots. Some people can't be bothered with disciplining or supervising their children but will raise all Hell if something bad happens due to their neglect. They will blame anything to avoid admitting to themselves that they are a) complete morons and b) terrible parents.

I propose that all these people be eaten by Super Godzilla.

That being said, I don't really get angry at this kind of stuff. First, it just makes me laugh. Then, it makes me really sad because there are kids all over with parents like this. I grew up playing video games and watching violent movies and nothing bad has happened because of it. I've never attacked anyone. I am probably one of the least violent people you'll ever know. Anyone who says video games (or other forms of media) affect children in this way is an idiot. Kids shouldn't be deprived of having a good time just because their parents are irresponsible. I really wish there was some way to give all children a good home because I'm a stupid, dirty hippie.

Yay, they just proved that the DS has awesome range, of up to 300 feet!

They make it seem like Pictochat is an Internet app, yet it is clearly pointed out to not be an internet app.

This moron also needs to realize that the Donkey Kong game was based on Popeye, only changed to the other characters due to a licensing disagreement. Commonly in the cartoons Popeye and Bruno fight over Olive Oyl... Yet he says nothing about old-time classic cartoons being evil.

Oh, and he claims that the NES is a newfangled device lol.

This guy also proves that the internet has predators... Duh. Yet this was posted on the internet... lol.

Finally, he spends so much time attacking Nintendo, you would think that he realized that Nintendo has the most sheltered game system of the bunch. When playing online games the most you see is their username unless you have exchanged friend codes.

Pac-man is a drug addict!

Oh man, these articles are so much fun to read. I laugh at them.

Now where is that guy. I wouldn't giving him what he deserves...

Nukatha is THE BEST Marro Stinger...

Your last sentence totally undercuts the rest of your argument, Billtog, as far as video games doing no harm. Don't you realize that to these people, the only thing worse than turning out to be a serial killer is turning out to be a hippie?

A friend of mine has a hypothesis that one reason we've seen a dramatic drop in violent crime over the last decade or so is actually because the type of person who's drawn to violence can get a lot more kicks out of XBox and Playstation than out of loitering on a streetcorner for hours waiting to see if he can get into a fight.

I'd be willing to bet money that's true.

Holy CRAP that was funny... I mean, come on, real or not, that is HILARIOUS.

I mean, come on. This is like that generic old man on TV. Newfangled video gaming gadget?

That picture of the "Nintendo Pervert..." only on the internet! And this:

Another popular game that coincided with a dramatic rise in the use of illicit drugs such as “acid” and “extasy” (by design) was Pac Man. The player’s character, “Pac” races around a carnival funhouse maze gobbling psychedelics. In the corners of the maze are “power pills” which pack a punch. The enemy ghosts, including Clyde, “trip out” when Pac downs a super pill, allowing Pac to eat his enemies alive.
Now I've never been to one of those carnival funhouse drug parties, but in the end, do people really end up eating their friends alive? If so, Pac-Man is my new God.

Okay I guess I'm the minority here but here goes anyway. I'm a parent of two boys ages 7 and 8. I no longer allow them to play violent games or watch inappropiate television. My wife and I have 2 tvs in the house. One is in the living room the other in the den. the tvs have parental locks on so the kids cannot watch whatever they desire. Cartoon Network runs the adult swim so that channel is on a time block. I am always aware of what my kids are watching or playing. I limit the amount of tv they can watch during the day and the time they play games. I do think that too much tv and video games can have an adverse effect on the mind of a child or an adult for that matter. What bothers me about these parents that are lobbying against the media industries is that they failed to read the ratings or check the reviews on the things they let their child play/watch. If you buy your kid a game/movie that clearly has the rating of M/R on it then you the parent are at fault. Parents have gotten so lazy in the education process of their own children. They feel the government needs to step in and help them by eliminating the adult oriented media. This is not a new thing though as you well know. people complain about everything... they take their children to Mcdonalds every day and then try to sue the company because their child got fat. It is a sad day for humanity as a whole that we have come to the point where we cannot put the responsibility of raising our own children on ourselves.

There is no reason to chastise me. I will beat myself with a stick later.

First of all, YOU CANT BE MOLESTED OVER A CHATTING FEATURE. Teach your kids what what to do.

YOU ALSO CAN'T BE MOLESTED OVER MYSPACE, or AIM. Teach your children not to meet with those people!

And I watched that video with that guy on good morning america. And yes, I would tell that to the families of dead people. Censorship is evil.
If you don't like the game DONT PLAY IT!

If you are crazy enough to go out and kill someone becuase of a video game, video game or not, you are a crazy homicidal maniac.

I like how people like this think that it's the video game's fualt, and not the MURDERER'S FUALT!

This stuff is always hilarious to read. One of my friends has been playing M games since around 3rd grade and I consider him one of the most nonviolent and nice people I know.

He also found a game called "Dance Praise" which is like a religious DDR. I'm fine with that. It's good to teach kids bible songs and instill things in their mind from childhood but, and here's the kicker, it describes itself as "Dance Dance Revolution only with wholesome Christian songs and no heavy Communist overtones."

If you are going to combat videogames, do you your homework first.

This guy's blog could be legit simply because there is no dearth of certified crackpots out there. Could be satire, as well. Satire tends to be a little more clever, though. (e.g., the Onion) So it's crackpot or C-Level satire, at best.

This is one of those issues that get people really fired up. Whatever empirical evidence suggests that violent games and movies breed killers is offset by an equally large pile of evidence to the contrary. I've played violent games since the original DOOM and I've never killed anyone.

HOWEVER... That isn't to say that it doesn't affect me. After marathon sessions of Half-life, Quake, and Fear, I walk around thinking to myself, "Hmm- if this were Half-Life, I bet there would be a bunch of bad guys hiding behind those fuel barrels." I'd never shoot them, of course, but you can see how someone with a less "lucid" grip on reality might be influenced by these games. There's no question that watching a lifetime's worth of movies made me more comfortable holding and using guns (at the range) It's got to be up to parents to keep a close tab on their kids and what goes into their little, developing brains. I play Super Smash with my daughter all the time. GTA 3 is unequivocally off-limits.
