Florida Frenzy '07 National Heroscape Day

Attention fellow Floridians! Start making your plans to be in the Orlando area October 20th for Florida's first National Heroscape Day Tournament!

I'm still working on the details, and hope to get input from others, attendees especially, but here's what we have to work with so far.

FL's NHSD Tourney will be held at Sci-Fi City on Colonial Drive. Their website is http://www.sci-fi-city.com/orlando.htm. Their address is:

6006 E Colonial Drive
Orlando, FL 32807

And phone is: 407-282-2292

We have the space for as long as we need. Their hours are 10am to 9pm on Saturdays, so come early and stay late! The tournament will start at 11am and end at 7pm. dbzking and I will set up maps Friday night. Additionally, we're going to have three different maps, chosen randomly by dbzking and myself for the Top Four to play on, once we get to that stage of the tournament. The maps for the Swiss rounds are revealed below.

There is no entry fee, but everyone who attends must bring one (or more if you're feeling generous) pack of Heroscape product (any size) or other 'scape related donation.

So far the tournament structure will be as follows.

- 440 point armies.
- 24 space starting zones.
- 2 random glyphs per map.
- Five swiss rounds plus Top Four.
- 50 minute rounds.
- Scoring will be win/loss, Strength of Schedule for tie breakers, point differential for tie breaker tie breakers. More info here: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ad.php?t=11233
- Winner gets first pick of prizes -- see below for prize listing so far.

Everyone's going to walk away with at least one prize. I will be bringing at least 2 prizes (one of which, RttFF, I just picked up today). With anyone else bringing more than one prize, Hendal's gold* and maybe a House Mouse gift certificate, we'll have a great prize table with plenty of prizes.

*As Hendal is doing at his own tournament, only armies without Q9, AE, Krav, Marro Warriors, or either Raelin will be allowed to choose the gold from the prize table. Hendal's gold, Hendal's rules.

Maps: Mole Hills, Klomar's Training Ground Location VII, and Highways and Dieways.

Glyphs:
Valda - Move +2
Lodin - d20 +1
Erland - Summoning
Gerda - Defense +1
Nilrend - Negation

PRIZES!!! (so far):
- A piece of gold donated by Hendal!
- Maybe an exclusive from Yogi-Donnie!
- RttFF from NecroBlade!
- SotM from NecroBlade, and one from Blue Dane!
- Every flagbearer from dbzking!
- Various boosters including Heroes of Bleakwood, Snipers and Vipers, Orcs, several Wave 6 from Buddy Lee!
- Special item from GenCon also from Buddy Lee!
- First place trophy also from dbzking!
- Hatomoto Taro from himsati!
- A pack o' zombies from Torog!
- Custom terrain from Star Wolf!
- RotV from Sisyphus!
- Heroes of Bleakwoode from Zealot!
- Munchkin game and Miniatures Grab Bag (10-15 various miniatures for use as customs) from Vydar!
- Shades and Orcs from Ryan!
- Volcarren Wasteland from Little Blue Dane!
- Three SotM from Hasbro!!!
- $50 HouseMouse gift certificate!!!

This is all very much underconstruction. Please, please, PLEASE make suggestions in any and all areas.

Also:
- Armies without Q9, Raelin, 4th, Deathreavers get bonus points toward SoS.
- No Marvel figures; classic 'scape only.

Again, please make any appropriate suggestions, sign up ASAP if you're planning on attending, and come if you're in the area!!!

Attendees so far!:
- NecroBlade + his roommate Chris (as a spectator)
- Zealot + Ryan
- Vydar
- Buddy Lee
- dbzking + friends
- Sisyphus
- Einar King
- BurnyFlame and brother
- Torog
- Star Wolf
- himsati
- igrillem
- Blue Dane & son

Might be attending:
- dikfox and friends (?)
- Yogi-Donnie

I'm not big on limiting units from official classic Heroscape.

I'm also partial to 500 point armies as that has kind of been the tournament standard for a while now.

I'm just trying to encourage diversity. Especially if there are only a few people, I'd rather not play three rounds of Q9 vs. Q9. It's not like anything's going to be banned, either, there will just be a few bonus points. So use Q9 and you have a better chance each round of getting points, or don't use him and get some points for free.

I understand that, and granted this is a "tournament" but again, I'd like to see something different. I'd prefer to see original armies over the same 500 point army you play every game.

Also note that everything in that post, as I've said, is just what I'm starting with. I will take suggestions from attendees into account.

Will you be able to make it to game day?

NecroBlade - that rocks, you will not be disappointed. 440 pts sounds great to me, there is no standard from what I have seen. Like you said it should make people think outside the box!
I have a 50 minute time limit, give people 10 min. between rounds ( relax, stretch, have a smoke ), but if the game is close you can use 55 Min, to finsih up if needed.

I didn't want to limit anyone from picking any official units, so went the route of no gold if you use my big 5, but I was close to saying no Q-9.

I can see not using the new stuff that eveyone may not have, or allow people to use proxies of them that they can print up an use a figure that is close in size.

I will let Kenntak know about it, him and his son may be interested. I will also let my niece and nephew now.

I have a couple buddies that I have started playing scape with in the past week. We are all new, but might give it a shot. We found the SotM set at Toys R Us on 50 by fashion square.. I also saw it at wal-mart way out on west colonial. We are looking for some people in town that might want to play casually 2v2v2 or 3v3 and teach us a thing or 2. We are in our late twenties and would prefer to play with older gamers (at least out of high school). We still don't know all the units, but I managed to figure out in the first game that Q-9 is a pain when he wiped out my entire zombie horde before they could close in.

I think that's exactly what we'll be aiming for.

I wasn't going to make the bonus so big that you wouldn't have a chance when using Q9. Just enough to be extra incentive to be creative, but not enough to exclude him (or other units).

Apparently dikfox has seen them, even in places I just visited. I will have to look again. If the majority of attendees have them before the event, they'll definitely be encouraged to play with them.

As I said, I checked a couple of those places recently and didn't see SotM. I'll have to look again. As far as teaching you and your buddies something, I'm sure everyone would be happy to if we have the time. (If you can show up early, then we might be able to get in a game while we set up...especially if you have extra terrain if we end up needing it. ) If not at the shop, depending on how long things run, we'll definitely have to get together for a game sometime. I'm not as new to the game as you guys, but I wouldn't say my skill level is very impressive either. I can't speak for anyone else who might attend, but having fun is priority one.

Just mapped the route. It would be a four hour drive for me (8 hrs round trip). Ouch! Don't know if I can do that.

Ouch indeed. I know I probably wouldn't be up for it. Sorry if you can't make it, but I'll be more than happy to have you if you can. I blame Florida for being such a stretched out state. :P

I e-mailed Kenntack, so he knows, or will soon!

Yea, Florida is a big state, the farthest I have driven is 3 1/2 hours one way for a tourneyment , unless you want to talk plane miles form Costa Rica (then I am always getting the farthest traveled award ), also the only one I didn't make the finals for ( I had stomach problems that day, so I wasn't on top of my game - won't ever happen again ). On the way home I did stop at a meyers and buy 19 Master sets for $9.79 each, gotta love that price ( and I had Weesel99 pick me up 5 more at that price, so I went home with 24 master sets and I felt like a winner anyways.

As the first ( that I know of ) Florida Heroscape Tourneyment, and since it is for National Heroscape Day - If there is over 8 people at this shin-dig I will send a piece of gold as a prize ( I live on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica - home to the 2nd purest gold in the world. Nuggets come out close to 22.6% pure gold - 24 being solid gold ) to first Place or highest ranking not using my big five ( Q-9, raelin{old or new }, krav, AE, & the Marro water cloners ) - just like in Ohio!

So you can add that to your prize list!

My schedule looks open at the moment. I'll have to get back to you around October 10, as I'm going to be out of town the next 2 weeks. It looks like about a 2 hour drive one way for me, but if we can get in a full afternoon/evening of gaming with a bunch of people, I'd be willing to drive that far. I'm glad to see someone contacted Kenntak - he's a great guy and might be able to bring along a son or two.

I vote for anything that will give variety - be it a non-standard point value, limitations on allowable figures, bonus points for not using certain figures, etc. I dislike fielding as well as playing against the standard "power-pieces" and definitely don't want to play multiple times against similar armies. I intend to play a themed army of some sort and would really like to see others do the same. I'm not really familiar with the newest units, but I'd be okay with them being fielded. I would prefer not to mix Marvel HeroScape in with the Classic HeroScape though.

As far as experience and collection, I've only played about 6 games of HeroScape in the last year (last time was about 6 months ago) and have never really played competitively. I pretty much stopped collecting after Wave 4 (though I picked up 2 boosters of Wave 5) and sold off a bunch of my Wave 3 when they got valuable on eBay.

PS - Thanks for the PM, NecroBlade. I generally don't check anything but the front page here, so I would have missed this completely otherwise.

PPS - Hendal, thanks for your generosity!

I'd be coming from just south of West Palm Beach, but I'm definitely interested in coming. I'm up for pretty much whatever, just a chance to play with some other HS fans for a day!
