What to do with a hurt pet?

My leopard Gecko is sick. I dont know how or why but his eye lids are fused shut and he is now blind. Leopard Geckos are great pets, they are smart, kind, and cool. I am very worried because a blind animal is a dead animal.

Vets wouldnt really know what to do with a lizard, and I doubt my parents would want me spending $80+ on a $50 dollar lizard.

I beg to differ. I have a good friend who had to take his pet iguana to the vet. They ended up having to do surgery to remove the computer chip from its stomach that it had eaten. I'm not kidding.

I just spent $600 to get my free cat healthy. If its your pet and you want to fix its problem and you have the money get him fixed.

I have to agree with Cav and NS. Take your leezard to the Vet. It's the only way to be sure.

How: Skin stuck to the eyelid from this last shed.
Why: Lack of moisture.

Definately take him to the vet, or to a local zoo. Sometimes zoos are willing to help legally purchased exotics for a smaller fee than a private vet. Sometimes....depneds on who you talk to and whther or not they are able to use this is a teaching process for their vetrinary staff. Also depends on how large and/or busy your zoo is....small zoos may have more time on their hands.

And why is a blind animal a dead animal? Are you forcing him to hunt on his own or something? If you put the food near him he should be able to eat, blind or not.

You have to hold it up to his face and wait. But, my other lizards are competitive and will steel all his food and eat him. Yes, Ive seen my lizard swallow another lizard that was bigger. It was weird. I drenched him in water and now his eye opened a slight crack. But its colorless and puffy.

Um, do you take care of the pets responsibly? If you do, it is your parent's responsibility to foot the medical bill for those pets (as you have no income of your own). Never torture an animal because you cannot care for it!
