Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
I too just got the Walking Dead compendium. Not moving through it quickly as I am swamped at work and with school, plus all of the new video games coming out, but slowly and steadily moving through it.

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
I have a Kindle! (Technically, my wife has a Kindle, but I figure that's pretty similar. She sleeps sometimes.)
So, I'm after Kindle-based recommendations. I don't have any sort of feel for it yet---whether there are types of book I'm going to enjoy more or less on it---but I strongly suspect I'm going to be reading a lot of free ones. Favourite classics that I should be able to get? We've put a couple of Austens on (Emma, Pride and Prejudice), I'll probably have a go at some more Dickens (I've enjoyed some and not others, but not tried for a while), Jerome K. Jerome's complete works will be there, it seems that some Wodehouse and Sayers are available... I've also treated myself to the new Vernor Vinge as a rare (at least, rare is the plan) close-to-full-price one. Anyone else have one? What do you get the most use from? Has it changed your reading habits? |

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
A Kindle ollie? really? I like to know that a tree died when I read my books.
Truly though I do prefer a hard copy. I actually enjoy reading a newspaper over web news. I just can not see myself curling up with a good Kindle. If you are looking for reading material I suggest Robert E Howard. Enjoy your new toy. I am hoping you have recovered from the floods... peace

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - slowly reading through these and this one is by far the best so far. Really enjoyed it.
Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King - really dark but good read. The Hunger Games - Had heard good things about this and I really enjoyed it. Was surprised at how dark it was but flew through the first one and am about halfway through Catching Fire now. There is the larger picture to think of though. I think the analogy with food works. The old-fashioned "book" is like eating a deer that you've plucked from its happy life in the forest. You get that direct connection with having killed something beautiful. But you have to dream big. I see the Kindle network as like the battery chicken infrastructure we now have. Sure, there's no blood directly involved when you sit down to a plate of chicken nuggets, but you can fill up satisfied that you've done your part in not only ending the lives of some chickens but also ensuring that they were utterly miserable while alive. The Kindle taps directly into the dystopican techno-hell that modern life is becoming; by buying into it I know that I'm doing my part to increase our speed along this path. As to recovering from the flood, our main bridge is out and will be at least all winter. This doubles our journey times to pretty much anywhere, so we stay in a lot more. I don't think it's sending me mad or leading me to post disturbing nonsense in perfectly innocent heroscapers threads though, which is a relief. |

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
Finished the Hunger Games trilogy. Intense little series though the last book could have been longer since it feels like they rushed through alot at the very end.

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child - My favorite authors, from science thriller to unexplained murders mysteries these guys are Awesome. Pendergast is the new Holmes.
Warren Fahy - Fragment - Excellent thriller similar to a Jurassic Park in scope and quality. James Axler - Deathlands Series - Who doesn't like some good old post nuke survival horror. David Golemon - Event Series - Poorly edited, but great stories and some really cool fresh ideas. Cheers, Delphic Neg Rep of the Year : "Desre for good grammar makes one looking to destroy fun??" I love it when the overly critical can't meet their own expectations. |

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
Just finished this classic last night. Wonderful read and much easier than I thought it would be, plus it's free to read!
