Madtown Throwdown! Madison, WI NHSD Tournament

Whoooo! What: 5 Match Swiss Style Tournament (no eliminations) Where: Misty Mountain Games, Madison When: Sunday, Oct. 19, 12:00 to 6:00+ PM Entry Fee: $5 Prizes: Agent Skahen x 6 Thaelenk Tundra Sir Gilbert Hatamoto Taro Ornak Adventure Bag provided by VixenTor Games Waster Woo donated by Sirpongo Ticalla Jungle x3 (may be in "used" condition for the tourney maps) $25 HouseMouse certificate $25 Wargammer HQ certificate Cool handmade round counter provided by MrBarkypants Dice box donated by Joah Everyone will get a prize! Map: Right here! Note the glyphs! Those are the actual glyphs that will be in use. Armies: Pre-made 600 point classic Heroscape (no Marvel), no substitutions. What to Bring: Your armies, dice, turn markers, life counters. I will have a small supply on hand for those who forgot anything, but please remember these! Dice towers, laser pointers, and calculators may also be good things to bring. It would be a good idea to mark your figures so someone else doesn't end up with yours. Please let me know if you are able to bring a complete map. Scoring: Scoring is Swiss with an additional "match score" metric which will be used to match up opponents for successive rounds. It will also be a tie-breaker for match draws and final ranking. The match score for each round is made up of the remaining points in your army plus the point total of your opponent's destroyed units. Note that this is different from normal scoring which only takes into account your points! Rules: Rounds are 45 minutes. At the 45 minute mark, you will be given 5 minutes to complete your current round. Do not start a new round! Also, if your match end early, please respect your fellow players and do not offer advice or commentary on ongoing games. We will not have timers on hand. Please take your turns in a timely manner. If your opponent asks you to hurry it up, hurry it up. Rules arbitration is through me and is final! If you find I was wrong, you can yell at me later but not during the tournament. We will have rule books and the advanced FAQ on hand. I will provide one laser pointer for general use. Be careful of other people's eyes! If pointing towards other tables, be sure to have your opponent provide cover to avoid hitting anyone else. There are several jungle bushes and trees on the map. Keep in mind that these rarely by themselves provide LOS blocking. If it looks close, please err on the side of having LOS. I will provide clear plastic boxes for dice rolling. If you choose to use them or dice towers, only in the box counts. If using the table, you must reroll fallen dice. Cocked dice must be rerolled after other dice are cleared out of the box and set aside. Forgot to roll dice? As long as your opponent has not rolled defense or you have moved on to the next roll or turn, set aside the rolled dice and roll the missing dice. Rolled too many dice? Reroll all dice no matter the current result. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soft drinks and snacks like pizza are available for purchase on location. No elimination tournament means you are guaranteed to to be able to play 4 games for ranking (5 if more than 16 participate).Yours truly will play if we have an odd number of players--so no byes and no one left twiddling their thumbs! And I will abstain from running off with prizes even if I beat all of you into the ground (mine will go back into the pool for the next tournament). Isn't that spiffy? Re: Madison, WI NHSD Tournament
My son will play as well. Kind of a bummer for me as he always calls dibs on the best units...

Re: Madison, WI NHSD Tournament
May I ask what the format will be?
Basic 500/540 point armies? Perhaps Sir Hawthorne, Woo, Shakan, and/or EOV as prizes? The only one I have is Nerak... Quote:

Okay, that's a two-and-a-half hour drive next month...
If gas prices drop, then maybe...... Eh, I probably won't make it, but we'll see. |

At least 1 Skahen will be there as the top prize. No to others unless WotC starts to put them out again. |

Re: Madison, WI NHSD Tournament
I'm living in the Sparta area so it would be about a 2 hour drive but I might come. Still pretty far out to put my name on the list but as the date gets closer I'll have a better idea of if I can make it or not. If I can make it, what size army should I be thinking about bringing? I assume you can only use one army for the entire tournament, correct? Anything else I should know in advance?
*edit* Just saw the 500 point part so I'll start thinking of a possible 500 point army. |

Re: Madison, WI NHSD Tournament
Some other points to consider.
Marvel or no Marvel? Will the maps be published beforehand? (Using a selection of the Gen Con maps would simplify this.) Lord of the Rings TMG Events -Gen Con 13 The North American Championship tournament- Saturday at 4 PM. NMN1342543 Battles of Middle Earth - Saturday at 10 AM. NMN1344930 |
