Re: NEWS: No Prize Support For NHSD
Well I consider myself an Event Coordinator for the TREE TOWN OPEN .. I can't tell you what your event is all I can do is offer this:
Convention Support Program Information Dear Convention / Event Coordinator: Whether you’ve received support from Wizards of the Coast, Inc. in the past or are merely looking into the possibility now, we want you to know that your convention is important to us and we would like to assist your efforts. We know it takes a lot of organization, time, money and heart to put your event together and we’ve designed this packet with that in mind. The convention support program is designed for conventions that are unattended by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. and to help your convention be successful. This packet has been updated for 2008 and is filled with helpful options for your event, including the following:
Sincerely- Jennifer Powers Event Marketing Specialist Wizards of the Coast |

Re: NEWS: No Prize Support For NHSD
I could care less about DCI for Heroscape, I have always seen it as nothing more than a way to track an elitist group of regular players, it does nothing for the casual players or those who only get to play every once in a while. That is the way it is wth Magic, D&D Minis, Star Wars Minis, etc.
Personally I say screw WotC as far as game support goes if that is all they want to offer us. We don't need a centralized reporting especially if there is no prize support being offered for using their crappy DCI system. R~ |

I also am working with Jennifer to "buy" some prize support for the Tree Town Open. Most people/Companies donate but if I want some Heroscape stuff on our prize table I have to buy it as WOC wil not donate Corp policy as I am told. Anyway if you charge $5 or $10 registration fee I think this is an option to use part of that money for HS prizes. Event Coordinators can do as they wish - I just thought I would throw out this option - not the best but better than nothing. |

Re: NEWS: No Prize Support For NHSD
Thank you GB and Truth for making sure to secure Skahen's for NHSD!
I received a letter like Codeman's when I contacted Wizards about a Seattle event. I actually just wanted the posters that they gave out at Gencon 2007 and received the canned response, followed by a message saying they didn't have any promotional materials for Heroscape. This was last October, I'm not sure if they may have a better line up yet. Honestly, those posters are great for giving to stores, and even as give-aways to people that play in the events. They have a Word doc that you can get from their website regarding conventions: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x...me/conventions What Codeman posted above is the first page of that document. The short of it is that you can buy prize packages from them: Quote:
The simple fact is that we've been spoiled rotten by Hasbro giving us $90+ bucks of product for each of our NHSD events. It isn't that we don't put in tons of work, but free stuff just isn't how things usually go. I'm not sure what I think of the options from WotC's official support line. $40 in D&D minis doesn't really get much when it is blind boosters. I guess I'm just happy that I have stuff I bought at sales for future prize use. |

Re: NEWS: No Prize Support For NHSD
A big thank you to the head honchos here for trying, you do so much for this game and its players. And though you did apologize for possibly disappointing some people, I think you know, deep down, <sob> that no one here holds anything against you.
<sniffle> Still looking forward to some quiggly hunting on the 18th! |

Re: NEWS: No Prize Support For NHSD
I too want to thank GrungeBob, the Guru, and Truth for all the effort put in, as well as tucking away those Skahens for a rainy day like this one. WotC's decision is a big dissappointment of course, but as many others have said, we're having NHSD'08 to see friends and play 'Scape, not merely for the free stuff.
Maybe next year. - Heroscape is a standing game. - |

WotC may feel any outright prizes will just mean less scape we'd purchase later. Or maybe since they've done this with their other products, they feel uncomfortable making an exception. Still seems kind of weak to pull out like that, though. And the timing is clearly pretty awful. I think WotC do better from a PR perspective to donate, especially after the GenCon debacle, and it doesn't seem like it would even be very expensive on their part to do so. Anyway, thanks again to Truth, Guru, and GB for trying, and big props to Codeman for putting together what promises to be an amazing event at TTO. |
