Colorado Winter Cluster Draft Heroscape Tournament

February 4th at Advantage Games

New players, newcomers, and spectators are all welcome to come participate in a few hours of playing the greatest board game of all time.

We have three signup sheets:

1. Gameday signup for new players who just want to learn the game or play casually (Sheet A)
   
2. Tournament signup for players who want to participate in the tournament (Sheet B)
   
3. and courtesy of Capt K'nuckles we have 3 time slots to play the Sir Hawthorne's Betrayal castle scenario; each time slot requires two players, but Capt K will fill in any openings (Sheet C)
   

armies will be provided for new players; please let us know if you will need armies

Tournament attendees must signup and submit armies via Heroscape.org at this link. Game results should be submitted there by the players after each match and new matchups will be posted there (and sent out by email) before each round.

Tournament Schedule: Map setup will begin at 10am for anyone who is bringing maps (or wants to help set them up).
Please check in by 10:10 so that we can assign matchups and begin playing promptly at 10:30am.
We will have a lunch break from 11:30-12. Players may agree before starting their game to end at 11:40 instead of 11:30. All first round game results must be submitted by 11:45 so that the next round can be announced.

The remaining rounds will progress as follows:

1. players begin drafting at 12:00.
   seven minute warning given at 12:58.
   "Last round" called out at 1:01pm.
   "Finish current order markers" called out at 1:05pm.
2. players begin drafting at 1:15.
   seven minute warning given at 2:13pm.
   "Last round" called out at 2:16pm.
   "Finish current order markers" called out at 2:20pm.
3. players begin drafting at 2:30.
   seven minute warning given at 3:28pm.
   "Last round" called out at 3:31pm.
   "Finish current order markers" called out at 3:35pm.
4. players begin drafting at 3:45.
   seven minute warning given at 4:43pm.
   "Last round" called out at 4:46pm.
   "Finish current order markers" called out at 4:50pm.

Prize table selection will occur at 5:00pm.

Prizes:If you stay to the end of the event you will get to select something from the prize table. If you bring something for the prize table, you will have the option of making an additional selection. Order of prize selection is done based on player record in the event. Suggested prize value is $15-$30.

Format: Cluster Draft

• For this event, each player will bring four 200-point pods with no more than 14 figures*. Pods may not contain less than 170 points. The four pods cannot share any figures, and the combined figure count of all four pods may not exceed 32 figures.
• Before each game, there will be a dice-off. The dice-off winner will decide whether to choose armies first or second.
• The four pods brought by each players will be combined to create a draft pool of eight pods.
• Whoever has first army choice drafts one of the eight total pods (theirs or their opponent's) and places the figures in their start zone.
• The second player drafts two of the remaining seven pods and places the figures in their start zone.
• The first player drafts two of the remaining five pods and places the figures in their start zone.
• The second player drafts one of the remaining three pods and places the figures in their start zone.
• Each player removes any extra copies of unique army cards from their start zone and ensures their total army is no more than 24 figures.
• The first player rearranges their start zone.
• The second player rearranges their start zone.
• An army may occupy any number of spaces as long as it meets the figure limit of 24 figures.
• If the placed figures in the army require more than 24 start zone spaces, place the minimum number of additional start zone tiles needed adjacent to the back of the start zone. All additional start zone tiles placed must be adjacent to standard start zone spaces, must be the same level as an adjacent standard start zone space (use grass or ice), and cannot be placed adjacent to a space that is not in the start zone. If there is a dispute in adding tiles, contact an organizer.
  

Pod Requirements:

• at least 170 points, no more than 200 points, using Delta pricing
  
• no more than 14 figures in a single pod
  • Airborne Elite, Rechets of Bogdan, Wing Commander Tuck Harrigan, and Bound Heroes of the Acolytes of Vorganund count towards this limit.
• C3V and SoV figures are allowed (see links below)
• The following Age of Annihilation designs are allowed (with proxies approved via Discord) with the errata listed by Scytale here. Note that you can get corrected cards for all of these designs in this thread.

Sir Hawthorne's Betrayal - The Fall of the Knights of Weston (Download)



The Knights of Weston were founded in the lands of Brittany in the late 15th century, to protect the providence of the weak against the tyranny of evil. This small chapter of knights abhors cowardice in all its form and lives by the Sanctity of Honor, a holy tome penned by their chapter master Sir Denrick of Weston.

The Knights of Weston were to meet their end at the Mouth of the River Lorie where they fought a hopeless battle against innumerable opponents and a betrayer amongst his own ranks. Lost in his own petty desires of leading and angry jealousies of his chapter master, a once honorable knight named Sir Hawthorne opened the gates of their battle fortress and led a besieging host to lay slaughter to the noble knights. It was at this moment of utter betrayal and defeat that the Valkyrie, Jandar, intervened, teleporting Sir Denrick and the remaining knights to the world of Valhalla.

Goal: Player 1 must survive for 6 rounds until Jandar's arrival. Player 2 must defeat Sir Denrick before he may be rescued.

Setup:

Player 1 must use the following army:
Sir Denrick
Sir Hawthorne
3 squads of the Knights of Weston

Player 2 may draft a 1000 point army of Humans who follow Einar.

Player 1 may place their figures anywhere on the lowest floor of the castle. Sir Hawthorne may be placed upon the wall if desired. Player 2 may place their figures anywhere on the grass outside the castle.

Special Rule: When rolling for Sir Hawthorne's Stab in the Back special ability, subtract 3 times the number of rounds that have passed from the result of your roll.

Victory: Player 2 wins by defeating Sir Denrick. If at the end of 6 rounds, Sir Denrick has not been defeated, Jandar arrives to rescue the Knights and Player 1 wins.


I still love this map. I haven't played it in a while, but rebuilding it from scratch brought back a lot of fond memories. For those who are curious, this is actually based on a real castle in France, though it sits at the mouth of the Loire River instead of the Lorie River.
