Fair enough. And he's not "Iron Man" so it's only potential Engineer synergy won't be relevant.

C3G INITIAL PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Steel

- THEME TEST/ Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that does not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them.
Pass

- MIRROR TEST/ Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
Pass

- BONDING TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.
Pass

- SYNERGIES TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit too powerful or too weak.
Pass

- POWER CHECK/ Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.

- FUN TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play.

- FUN COMPETITIVE TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against.

- DRAFTING TEST/ Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting.

- What should be the unit's point value? I think 260 looks spot on so far.
- Give a brief overview. I like his versatility and his stats. This design isn't too complicated, but it has plenty of options.

- Give a brief overview. He felt like he was better than most Unique Heroes at killing squads, but this match got away from him when he was out ranged and had no height.

- Give a brief overview. He works well as a big hitter and also as low level clean up, but the Hawkmen are too tough to be compared to lowly thugs.

- Give a brief overview. This was a fair fun fight, though Superman was a one man army, Steel and Superboy teamed up in the end with Atom inside of Luthor, to finish off the competition.

Units: Steel, Superboy, Superman II, and Atom (1,000) - VS - Lex Luthor (Battlesuit), Luthor Corps x 2, Grundy, and Count Vertigo (1,000)

- Give a brief overview. Fun and balanced. He was good at taking out Black Mask and he was OK at handling the dreaded 4 man squad.

Hmm ... 270 feels like a real possibility from the tests there, but I'm OK going into playtesting at 260. That was Mark IV in the first two match ups, right? Not Mark V?

I really believe in his point cost at 260. I was fully prepared for it to go up to as high as 280, but 260 ended up feeling spot on without any "power creep". This guy's constitution is the same as Hasbro Iron Man, he is less dependable in his attacks, not as fast, less range significantly, but once per round he could potentially line up a good special attack... but that is sometimes difficult to pull off too.

And yeah, that was MK IV.

Smart Hammer SA seems too complex with the two options and have to remember things for the remainder of the round. I would say to drop one of the options.

Bolt Gauntlets' attack of two...will he be able to hit anything? How often does Q9 use two dice?
  1. Would dropping an option really help you remember if you used the power or not? That doesn't seem to really help with your concern of remembering. The only other way to "count" whether you used the power or not would be with a Marker. Would you prefer to lessen the complexity with a marker? Have you ever played with old school Punisher? Did you ever have a hard time remembering whether or not you used that awesome ARMOR PIERCING ROCKET SPECIAL ATTACK? This thing is a "smart" Hammer. It is supposed to have different smart options. That is just how it works.
  2. He used his Bolts in the comics on cleaning up gangs and firing back at them. That is EXACTLY what we designed it for. I used it against squads and found that it was very useful there, and at times, it is useful to bypass special defensive powers on Heroes too. So yes, it does actually hit quite a bit, because of the 4 attacks of 2. If it didn't hit, then neither would older squads and commons like Civilians, Street Thugs, Beat Cops, Moloids etc. Ahh the classics, still used today and still giving us a safe place hide from power creep.

I like the options of the Smart Hammer special, and once per round seems reasonable, but is the minus 2 attack really nescessary?

I guess itīs just a typo, but I do believe his middle name is Henry, not Henery, and his gauntlets shoot rivets, not bolts, in reference to his railroad related namesake...
So I guess I would like to see it renamed to RIVET GAUNTLETS SPECIAL ATTACK

1 - The -2 to his attack represents him not being able to hit with his hammer for a period of time because it is out doing whatever mission he sent it out to do. It also keeps his cost down by about 20 points.
2 - Henery was a typo that I fixed just after sending this out to ERB. Thanks.
3 - "Bolt" sounds better and is used in the comics. Also, its definition here may not be what you are used to. LINK
