Come out to the National HeroScape Day Event of north/central Florida!

I see that South Florida is putting on one or two events for National HeroScape Day (NHSD), and I think we in the Central/North part of the state should do the same as Florida Frenzy 4.0. This year, other cities are having it on Saturday, October 16, but we could move it later if it will attract more players (like the South FL crowd). However, I would prefer to have it before the next wave comes out in November.

So, if no one wants to run it (himsati, Zealot, GGGames?), I am willing to put it together. The question is, where should it take place? Here are our choices:

Orlando/Winter Park - Cool Stuff Games
It is the most centralized city in Florida, so theoretically should attract the most players. Cool Stuff hosted our last tournament, FF 3.5, and they seemed very willing to host more. They also have lots of scape available for purchase, lots of table space, and are supporters of this website.

Tampa - Armada Games
Armada is a great shop which enthusiastically supports HeroScape. We also have a large group of players in that area, and they put on FF 3.0. However, this city is farthest for me, so I would need someone else to do most of the set-up and clean-up.

Gainesville - TBD
I could get quite a few people I know in this area to play, and it would be more convenient for the North Florida players in Jacksonville or Tallahassee. There are a few local game shops that would be able to accommodate us. We probably should avoid home football game weekends, though.

Daytona Beach - TBD
If you can get to I-4 or I-95, you can get to Daytona easy. I know we have not had an event there yet, but if enough people are interested I can find a local place ('Scape on the Beach?).

Please post your VOTE for your preferred location in this thread. Please also indicate which cities you DEFINITELY could attend. Finally, indicate which weekends you are available. Here is mine:

-Entry Fee: One HeroScape related prize is preferred, but anything game-related is acceptable
-400 point official HeroScape armies (no Marvel, -1 SoS for A+ units and -1 for more than 3x same common squad)
-Maps (found below), 2 Glyphs per map (the 10 glyphs are found here)
-4 Swiss rounds, then top 4 play Semi-finals while rest play 5th round
-Final round (top two players), everyone else Free Play
-Awards, including WOTC Prize support! WOTC has provided 3 Master Sets and a full Wave 12!

Schedule:
10-11am: Check-in/Set-up (bring a prize, HeroScape related preferred)
11am-12pm: First Swiss Round
12pm-1pm: Second Swiss Round
1pm-2pm: Third Swiss Round
2pm-3pm: Lunch Break
3pm-4pm: Fourth Swiss Round
4pm-5pm: Fifth Swiss Round/Top 4 play Semi-Finals
5pm-6pm: Top 2 play Finals/3rd&4th play/Free play for rest
6pm: Clean-up and Prizes! Casual play afterwards.

Thanks for getting this ball rolling BurnyFlame. I would certainly be interested in a central Florida tournament, but as you mentioned there are currently two South Florida tournaments being discussed for Oct. 16th, so unless there is a date change I wouldn't be able to make it to Florida Frenzy 4.0.

If there is a date change, then I'd much prefer Tampa. It's closer for us southwest Florida folks and I actually have friends in Tampa I could stay with, which makes it easier too.

If it is in Orlando My group (4 or more possibly) would most likely to go. At the least my brother and I would be there no doubt because were going to a magic game that night.

Being in Tallahassee, Gainsville is the only one of the three that I could get away for.

As for dates: NOT Oct. 30.

I am coming from the fringes of the panhandle, so I also vote for Gainsville.

Being in St.Pete I vote either Tampa or Orlando. Depending on who is still at Armada scaper wise I could volunteer to help do setup/tear down. I would just need to know two weeks in advance(got to modify my work schedule).


On the format side, typical 500pt armies? Side game of dungeon crawls?

I haven't played in the last couple but if it's at Armada I can see what I can do. Anything else is just too far for me. I would need someone to lend me figures for an army too but that can be figured out later. As for a date,

I agree with the 500 pt army though, but I don't really care, whatever works.

Woops, I thought it was Oct. 16. If it is any other date we would be able to go to Orlando, Daytona, or Gainesville.

Anyway, I vote for Orlando. Coolstuff games is a great store.

Looks like Tampa or Orlando are going to be the winners in a vote for majority. It's a question whether those who can make it to those places can make it to Gainsville. B/c those who can make it to Orlando or Tampa still have a shorter trip than those in the Panhandle that can make it to Gainsvile.

I'd also like to thank Burny for starting this up. I can probably make it to any of them, but either Orlando or Tampa is a little easier. I can probably help set up at any as well, and since I'm so close to Coolstuff in Orlando, I can go there to talk to them beforehand if need be. But really, where ever will get the most people is fine by me. I'd also prefer not to have it on the 30th if possible. Glad to see Florida Frenzy is being kept alive, and I'd be more than happy to help setup the event
