I am a little surprised WoTC went with a new personality for the Native American units.

I assume so, but do you guys realize that the personalities dictate how to best use the figure(s)? Thier personalities usually coninside with their abilities, and as I have done, if you use them as their personalities suggest, they actually have a larger potential.

Hmmm...except for a few special abilities that mention specific personalities (Valiant and Disciplined for example), I have taken personalities mostly as "color" for the game and never considered them to be a hint on how to strategically use the figures...

Disciplined, Valiant, Relentless, Tricky, and Wild all have in-game effects.

As of this moment, the others do not. However, those are the 5 most common personalities, with 73% (107/146) of the figures having one of those personalities. So, although it may not come up in most games, the majority of figure personalities are more than just flavor.

The interesting thing will be to discern what "more than just flavor" means in terms of army selection, start zone placement, order marker placement, etc. mean. (I know none of the answers. I just like noticing the questions.)

Well, in a battle without Sacred Band, 4th Mass, Khosumet, Otonashi, and Skahen, the answer is "nothing". Those are the figures that drive all personality-based gameplay effects.

I think MegaSilver is suggesting that the personalities do a somewhat similar job to Jexik's color categories in addition to directly influencing the game via the rules. If true, relentless units should be a subset of Jexik's sharks, for example, and tricky units should require finesse to use well.
