Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

Great idea with BGG hotness list!

I noticed the listing page on BGG for Age of Annihilation is pretty sparse. Loading up that page with all of the images from Pulse Con and linking to the campaign page would be a great start.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

Its a brand new page. I'm there as 'Jon Snow,' and on the older ROTV page as well. Also rallying The League of Extraordinary Heroscapers there.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

250$ isn't worth it, especially for unpainted miniatures. I'm out.

Hopefully it raises 2 Million, I have my doubts though. I'd be awesome to see Scape on the market again though.

I did some comparison shopping recently. I decided not to back the "reload" of Rivet Wars, another miniature game of which I have the original. The core pledge on the Kickstarter was $130. With that, you got 64 unpainted miniatures... but almost all of them are tiny, and every other component in the game is paper or cardboard. To get that one up to $230, which gets close to the Heroscape base, I could throw in an expansion with another 18 miniatures. So it would have more miniatures (still unpainted), but none of the awesome terrain pieces that Heroscape includes, just flat cardboard maps.

$250 for that much? Seems very reasonable by comparison to most miniature games on the market right now.

Now here's the downside: on that kickstarter, only 1766 backers contributed a little over $300,000. Getting 8,000 is going to be a lot harder.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

I think a lot of folks haven’t seen what Kickstarters run these days. 250$ is a fair price for sure. That’s not me being a mouthpiece for Avalon Hill. With the amount of terrain and figs that price is probably close or a touch low. Add Free shipping (many campaigns running 50-70 now for anything this size) and it becomes even more competitive.

I think the broad outline of your take--that the campaign has to henceforth reach the Kickstarter big-game crowd if it's going to fund--is broadly correct.

$250 does murder to the "get it for my kids" crowd, but is not a dealbreaker for that demographic. And here, actually, the scope of the product might work in its favor. Because even if you don't have any HS already, AoA is a respectable little Heroscape collection all on its own. It has the most important elements of terrain, and enough figures, that you could set up a lot of great games just with this. Which, I assume, is part of what factored into it.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

I can't speak for everyone on this, But the price seems fair to me and for my collection I had to buy 3 sets. It's A game I have loved and played for what 16 years and half of what I bought I bought for HeroScape. They gave us time to save up and there is a lot in the set, its like getting 2 ROTV sets a Jungle set and a Fortress of the Archkyrie, so even back in the day around $200.00 worth of stuff not to mention the size of some of these new units. Heck I spent more than this on online games with no physical items. And this is a heck of a set for someone starting out. LOL even Hero Quest was $150.00 and I had to get one FOR HEROSCAPE !!! paid $80.00 for Big Trouble In Little China for Jack Burton IN HEROSCAPE had to spend about the same for AVP why more Alien units for HeroScape!! And I dont even know how much ive spent on HeroClix for HeroScape!! Ok I'm done!! WE NEED THIS !!

ALL ARE ONE

--Those players are to be found on boardgamegeek.com, not Hasbro Pulse Con, so I certainly hope the Avalon Hill marketing crew puts some money in their budget to buy some banner ads over there.
The only reason I even knew that Heroscape was coming back was that I check in to Heroscapers about once a month to check on customs announcements. I expect there are a ton of former (and future) fans who are still unaware of this campaign. The absolute best way to get attention for that is to pump Heroscape: Age of Annihilation up to #1 on Boardgamegeek's Hotness list. I don't know their algorithm fully, but I know that it is influenced by a lot of people people simply going to a board game's page on BGG and also gets a boost by posting in the game entry's forum. Here are the links for both. Maybe we should all just post a bunch of discussions over there fir the next week?

Is there a breakdown of number of hexes anywhere...I know it says 74 hex tile terrain pieces but is that 74 hexes or 4-24 hex pieces, 20-1 hex pieces, 20-2-hex pieces, 20-7 pieces, 20-3 hex pieces (I know...math was never my strong suit).
To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be dissatisfied if it were 74 water tiles...

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

$250 is a great deal if you wanted everything in the box and planned to paint and play with all the miniatures. The problem is I only really want the terrain and maybe a few figures. It's a shame there isn't a lower entry for those who have enough figures already with C3V and base Heroscape and just want to dip their toes in this new release.

Converting $250 into a pile of plastic that I'll toss in the storage bin isn't really the best deal for me personally. I wish Avalon Hill did more market research to better understand the needs of the current community so that both Hasbro and AH could present a more enticing offer today. Best wishes to everyone who supports this offering.

SPARKLY water, at that!

Skyknight raised another good point about the free shipping! You can't find a Kickstarter game with free shipping. That's just not done.

When you break down the $250 and divide it among the figures and terrain pieces, it comes down to close to $1 a piece. That's a fantastic price, honestly.
