Re: The Book of Shurrak
In a game of HS today, I had Shurrak wander into a small canyon. The Tarns came rushing in (yes, Berserker Charge a few times), got height, and killed him in about 2 rounds at most.
In a previous game, he and a Hydra teamed up on Major X17. Shurrak pushed X17 into a river, and the Hydra Reached over to chomp away at it. It was a better strategy I've seen. |

Re: The Book of Shurrak
When I first saw him announced onsite with just his type and name before the Army Card was shown, I thought "Huh--another stupid Hulk for the kiddies to use." But in fact he's a great sculpt and a great Army Card! Unfortunately, my Shurrak has been dogged by bad luck so far! This follows Murphy's Law of Heroscape: "When you get a cool new figure, he will die fast or prove useless in his first game." (Of course, its evem worse when it happens in Non-Scape games to the military miniatures you spend hours painting, only to see them blown away by artillery their first time on the table!)
1. First Proxy Play: 'Shurrak' (stood in for by Jotun) is in a situation where he doesn't want to use his 'knockback' because it would give the enemy figure an automatic disengage. He is wounded, and finished off by 'Mika Connour' (love that gal) Striking From the Shadows! 1A. First Actual Use: Placed on RIVER OF BLOOD'S Team Evil (which is how Kolakoski meant it above I think, Kaiser Cat) in Room 4 on the hill above Estivarra for my first solitaire game, he gets no action when Team Good wins on Round One! In fact, I don't even think he know's the game is over yet! So where my initial response to him was 'So what?' now I'm rooting for the Big Guy to get into the action...especially before a Frost Giant shows up to steal the limelight of his Giant Thundering Presence. Re: The Book of Shurrak
I played with Shurrak this weekend and he worked well. My army was:
Shurrak - 160 Heirloom - 90 Goblin CuttersX3 - 150 Total = 400 pts My opponent's army was: Fen HyrdaX2 - 240 Kelda - 80 Marro Warriors - 50 White Wyrmling - 30 Total = 400 pts It was a close game. I found that the Goblins work really well against the Hyrdras, but just one White Wyrmling cuts through them pretty badly. Heirloom and Shurrak's special attacks were very good against Kelda, as they were able to target her and whatever Hydra she had previously healed. Shurrak actually ended up being my last figure on the field and was pitted against the Marro Warriors. Frankly, on the map we were using, Shurrak should've lost to the Marro Warriors, but I got some lucky initiative flips and pulled it out. Last edited by Elginb; September 7th, 2010 at 01:20 PM. |

Re: The Book of Shurrak
Used this guy a few times so far against the Warforged Soldiers. I think his special is perfect for countering them because it is just enough attack to get through their defense consistently. Only wish I had Ornak to make an Utgar All Stars team. That would be fun.
If we ever see the lava set come back this guy will be seeing even more play in my games. |

Re: The Book of Shurrak
What if the defending figure has 0 defense (Venoc Vipers) Do you still get to roll for knockback?

Re: The Book of Shurrak
That is a matter of opinion. One should not have to use quotes when defining real terms. Rolling zero is equivalent to not rolling in my book.

Re: The Book of Shurrak
The Vipers roll defense. They roll as many dice as they are entitled to given their particular circumstances (heights, auras, etc.). Often the number of dice will be zero.
No quotation marks needed. |

Re: The Book of Shurrak
The quotation marks were meant to convey the fact that the roll defense dice step of the attack resolution process may not be accompanied by a physical action. The step still in fact occurs.

Re: The Book of Shurrak
I think the Knockback language would be more similar to the Ninjas of the Northernwind's Disappearing Ninja power if they intended it to be whiff preclusive.
