I agree that this approach is much more likely to reduce the length of games.

The current (54-player) online event limits players to 18 figures per army. This seems to strike a nice balance, where it allows room for bonding armies but kills the "fill your startzone with ranged commons" approach.

I'm not sure I like day 1 armies and day 2 armies having nothing to do with each other, but day 2 games have been essentially untimed for the last 3 (4?) years, so the "bring two" format would have no issues there.

Darn. 18 makes no room for 2xRats, 2xCutters, 2xBrutes + filler.

Actually, using a 'bring 2' format for day two could be kind of interesting. Something along the lines of keep the same army that got you to day 2, then add in 1 more and play the bring two format style for day 2.

Have everyone turn in their main event day 1 army on the front of an index card with their potential day 2 second army on the back of the card at the start of day 1. If they make day 2 they would continue to use their first army from the front of the card and must use the army they listed on the back as their second army. This would prevent any specific counter building once people know who's in the main for day 2 and what their day 1 armies were.

For me, this could satisfy my issues with time, given the day 2 players are generally going to be more experienced, it's a 16 person event, and as noted timing hasn't been super strict on the length of games so it gives a bit of a cushion.

This would not really push down the day 1 cheese very much, honestly. It would make for a very interesting day 2, but it would be a day 2 filled with very strong armies.
