Could someone please tell me...

...where, oh where have all the good times gone?

Now I truly know what it's like to be part of a game that goes out of production. It sucks!

I know that fanscape is still alive and well, but I'm not into superheroes (other than the original Marvel).

It doesn't seem all that long ago where I was hunting down waves in the stores, or reading about the doom n' gloom of the game here, or even the heated discussions about DnDScape...those days are gone, but they were some fun times indeed.

This is not a post about lamentations, however, I'd like to hear some stories that come to mind back when you felt the game was at its peak, and your interest in the game was at its most high. Anybody?

For me, I think it was during the release of the Aquilla sets. I was having a hard time finding them, and at that point most of my gaming buds were totally into trying this strange crossover style game full of robots, cowboys and ninjas (and gladiators and dinosaurs and Orcs and wolves and trolls and lizards and wizards and zombies and Samurai and Vikings and Spiderman). After I picked up that entire set, I was pretty stoked. Not so much with the DnD stuff, but I picked it all up anyway...for me, Wave 9 was the highpoint.

Re: Could someone please tell me...

I recall that the expansion I salivated over the most was wave 1. That's because it was the first time we would have anything but the basic set. They introduced commons, plus bonding!

But there were many highlights, and wave 6 was one of them, as was Raknar's vision and wave 8.

Re: Could someone please tell me...

I remember going to Walmart to buy my first set. I grabbed RotV with the Wave 4 Lawmen and Samurai along with the Wave 3 Monks and Sentinels. I was so happy to have them. My dad and I used to mix the fronts and backs of he cards because we didn't use most of the rules. We would draft out my entire collection into two teams and play on all the terrain I had. The game would take about four hours but it was so much fun. I don't remember a lot of the buyings of what has become my massive collection, but I know I was never disappointed with any set I got. I didn't join the site till around the middle of '08 but watching the Wave 9 previews was probably one of the high points for me. I love scape and I have hope that someday it will go back into production. I can dream I guess.

I wasn't introduced to the game until it was almost out of production--just a couple months over two years ago was probably the first time I played. I do remember seeing it in Wal-Mart and thinking that it looked kind of cool, but that it was lame to mix vikings with robots. Every time I think about it I feel really dumb for not buying any when I had the chance...

Have you heard of C3V or SoV? They've already put out some pretty cool stuff, and I hear C3V is looking to release another wave before Memorial Day.

How about this for a heated discussion? Or this for a story?

Re: Could someone please tell me...

For me the game is at its peak right now. C3G gave me that same feeling I got when playing the original RotV. Common squads ruined HEROscape for me. C3G restored my faith and the fun. Heroes or Dead. The future is bright, I gotta wear shades.

Re: Could someone please tell me...

I bought the Marvel Set when it first came out and shortly thereafter Master Set 1 & 2, but honestly thought getting all the packs were a waste of money (my mindset was I was paying $25 for ~20 figures and terrain, so why would I pay $12 for only 5-7 figures). However, once I started going on the sitis and was preparing to go to my first tournament - NHSD 2009, I decided to buy a bunch of packs. Luckily my local Walmart had uniques of wave 5-7 and all of waves 8-9 in stock, as well as some reprints of wave 2. I was exited to get 3 squads of 4th and 10th as my first multiple commons, as I read up on the Heroscapers rankings and those were the best. Also, as many people have mentioned, Wave 9 was the "most complete wave" since wave 2 - not necessarily the best figures, but where there heroes went great with the squads in it, it helped out previos waves (gladiators, Atlaga), attempted to change the metagame (Repulsers & Protectors), and had some units everyone had been clamoring for (Dwarves, Ullar Kyrie, Braves), and therefore Wave 9 is where I started "collecting them all" buying one pack of heroes and multiple of each common in a wave.

Re: Could someone please tell me...

My excitement was at the peak when the game was almost dead. The D&D waves showed such creativity and range, it was like they were desigining with no future in sight. Use every cool ability you can think of NOW! I still love those waves. Phantom Knights! Hydras! Wow, what awesomeness.

Unfotunately now I realize that they were desiging with no future in sight. They new the game was ending and gave us all the goodness that we could stomach.

Thanks design team guys.
