HS2010's Custom Terrain - Christmas Trees added 11/11/12

Oh, sorry. Happy Holidays, and with Christmas right around the corner, I figured I'd make some Christmas Trees.

This is a project I worked on from late yesterday and just finished this morning. Not a lot of work, really cheap, and great results! Perfect combo for custom terrain.

What Do You Need:

At Walmart, in the Christmas section, I found a 'container' of small trees (it was actually in plastic wrapping). They are about $10 for 12 trees; 2 Very Large, 2 Large, 4 Medium, 4 Small. I bought two more Large ones for a buck each.
Then you'll need some glue. I used Loctite Stik'N Seal Indoor Inhesive:

You'll also need some spray paint. I used: Testors: Spray Enamel; Flat White, 3 oz:

This turn out to be a bit yellower than the official Snow. This can be found for about $5. Also, I couldn't do 3 layers on each tile. So the more paint the merrier.

4 2-hex Grass hexes
2 3-hex Grass hexes

OK, with $20 and a few of your own Grass hexes (or you can order off of auggies for less than $.40 cents each). You can now begin the process:

Sorry I don't have pictures for the tutorial, but most of it is common sense anyways.
First, spray paint the tiles (three layers is best but with the three oz you can only get 2. )
Second, put some glue on the bases of the trees and tops of the tiles, then rub so that it is evenly distributed around the area you need to stick. Allow both to slightly dry for about 5 minutes, then press them together.
Third, wait 2hrs (this is the hardest part ) for them to dry.
NOTE: The 3 hexes are for the Very Large trees, the 2 hexes are for the Medium and Small trees, and the 1 hexes are for the Large trees.

Here are some rules I made up:

A figure (as long as it fits), may stand between the two hexes of the Small tree and Very Large tree.

However, it may not in the above picture.

In the above picture, Finn is engaged with Blade Grut 2. Also, Ne-Gok-Sa is adjacent to Blade Grut 2. However, Blade Grut 1 and Tarn Viking 1 and 2 are not adjacent to Blade Grut 2.
You may only enter the space Blade Grut 2 is on, from either Ne-Gok-Sa's or Finn's space.
A two space figure, may move onto the hex Blade Grut 2 is on, placing his other space on one of the 'Entrance' spaces.

Dund is engaged to Ne-Gok-Sa, and Blade Gruts 3 and 4, but not Blade Gruts 1 and 2.

'Half' base figures, may move onto the hex containing the Small tree from any adjacent hex (except the one containing the Medium Tree).
All figures in the above are engaged with Heirloom.

Sgt. Drake is engaged with Ne-Gok-Sa and Blade Grut 2, but not with Blade Gruts 1, 3, and 4.
You may enter Sgt. Drake's hex from either Ne-Gok-Sa's or Bladde Grut 2's hex.

HS2010, love the custom snow-covered trees!

I found some similar trees at my local hardware & hobby store in Berkeley (before we moved to Berlin), and picked up some of the large ones. Like you, I mounted them on single-hex snow tiles. They also had the super-large trees in stock — but I knew they wouldn't fit on a single hex, so passed them by. NOW I realize I should have snatched them up, and done what you did with them: put them on three-hex triangles.

EDIT: Like you, I'm a huge fan of spray paint. I don't think I have a single hex left of original grass, rock, sand, or swamp terrain — I spray painted them all, to more closely resemble real grass, rock, sand, and swamp. Spray painting the wall segments / 'columns' from the Fortress set really enlivens them too. Makes me miss my custom terrain.... Anyway, pics here, if you're interested.
