Re: Hexes in Texas - 10/21/12

Well, I'm fine either way. I was just voicing an opinion on one side of the argument. I agree that more diverse and interesting armies are possible through having the list. And perhaps Cheddar's comments to the effect of arguing the merits of the actual units on the list themselves as opposed to the actual list itself may be the way to go.

But that is certainly not something I am inclined to do a month and a half out.

Now, is there a point total yet?

I'd like to roll out a point total under 500.

2008: 540
2009: 500
2010: 520
2011: 510

I think it would be fun to trot out a 480 point event. Thoughts?

Re: Hexes in Texas - 10/21/12

I'm cool with anything between 450-520.

Over 520 and it seems like it gets a lot harder to finish games on time.

Also! How come R˙chean and Dr haven't signed up yet? Didn't we move this to Sunday so they could join up? Get on the stick, losers!

Dude, 480 totally rocks!

I've actually been toying with armies and the couple I've come up with have been 480. Awesome, man!

Re: Hexes in Texas - 10/21/12

The current restricted list is fine with me.

I would prefer a revisit to the list or some other governor for power builds rather than just wide open.

A must read for all 'Scapers!

Re: Hexes in Texas - 10/21/12

Just tossing this out for you guys as an alternative governor format:
  • Bring two 480-point armies, which cannot share any figures.
  • Before each game, dice off with your opponent. The winner chooses first army choice or second army choice.
  • First army choice may choose any of the four armies (yours or your opponent's). Second choice may choose any of the other three.
Then again, nobody's brought 4thx6 to any of your restricted list events in the past, so maybe you don't need anything to stop people from min-maxing their builds?

Well, actually yes. I think as a group we could agree to build fun armies.
I think having definitive ground rules for curtailing power builds is preferable to a "gentleman's agreement". What one person sees as a "fun build" might be different than another person's. "10th aren't that good, man. This is just a fun little army I threw together."

Personally, I always bring along a pretty powerful build for NHSD. I like to have a definitive limit so I know exactly how far I can dial it up. Otherwise, I'd likely keep creeping my build up in power.

QFT.

After all, we know that Zuko thinks Q9 + Stingers is "fun." And we all have to resist power builds that include Zelrig and/or 4th/10th/Stingers.

I have stated my personal desire to remove Kaemon Awa from the restricted list, but have accepted that my opinion is a minority position. I'm good for leaving it as-is.
