Strategic Maneuvers Army Specific: Fish in a Barrel
Fish in a Barrel
By Fezzikthedoor and Agatagary Units required: Durable figure, explosion attack One ploy that takes advantage of the durability of many figures and the offensive firepower of others is Fish in a Barrel. To do this, move your durable figure towards the enemy, preferably towards a large grouping of mid-low defense units. You are trying to trick your enemy into surrounding it with swarming units that often try to bog down heroes with only one attack. Instead of simply sending in relief units, target your figure with an explosion attack that damages all adjacent units. Your unit should certainly be able to handle the damage, but you may take out multiple figures while they are crowding around him. DW9000, Johnny Shotgun Sullivan, and James Murphy all have explosion attacks that can be used in this strategy. These three are all unreliant on additional factors and can continue to bombard if necessary. The Airborne Elite also have and explosion attack, but have a Catch-22. They can use their explosion attack four times in one turn, provided they are all within range, but only once. The repetetive attacking of the same cluster four times in one turn may be just what you need to clear all the enemy units out, but keep in mind that your unit is also in there, and must roll every time as well. The Airborne Elite also allow you to attack more than one cluster at a time. You could attack two clusters twice, or four clusters once, or however you think they will be most effective. Remember though, once the grenades have been used, they're gone, and if one Airborne throws, they all must throw or lose the ability. Zelrig also makes a good choice as an cannon for this strategy. His flying causes him to be the most mobile of all the cannons (Except for the Airborne pre-drop) and his special explosion attack forces commons to roll fewer defence dice. Jordhawn also earns a mention here for her explosion attack, however, she is either less mobile or less powerful than the others. Her attack can pack a punch, but only if she's surrounded by her wizard friends. This really hurts her mobility if you want her full attack potential. Perhaps Emirroon can help alleviate this problem. Any Hero with four or more lives and four or more defence make good candidates for the unit to be targeted. A couple of units get a special mention. DW7000, with his steath dodge and defence rating of 7 should easily stand up to repeated attacks from your cannon-unit, just watch out for the dreaded Deathwalker roll. Human Champions, when bonded with the MacDirks, would also be good candidates. They are all fairly durable and could withstand a few attacks. The best part of using the Champion is that if the explosion hurts him, your Scots become even stronger. The Iron Golem is probably the best candidate, as all explosion attacks are special attacks and he receives two autoshields against them. Coupled with his defense of 6, that ability makes him nearly immune to all special attacks. Jugger It's like football with swords or LARPing without the geeky stuff. In other words, it's awesomely perfect! Last edited by Tai-Pan; June 29th, 2010 at 07:18 PM. |

Apropos of the fifth chapter of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, we read:
"Thus one who is skillful at keeping the enemy on the move maintains deceitful appearances, according to which the enemy will act. He sacrifices something, that the enemy may snatch at it. By holding out baits, he keeps him on the march; then with a body of picked men he lies in wait for him." —SD Hic est qui sumus |

great stragey, I think that valgaurd could probably be replaced with tornak or the swog (go orks (sorry)). Though that's just my opinion.A similar stratagey is to have krug get surround and have jotun wild swing krug.
critics should be friends not enemies. I'm not dead yet I use imaginary logic, the square root of negative logic. |

You could also do it with Dumnitef. For only 25 poinrts he is a worthy sacrifice, but if it is on road 5 def might just survive it.

Or maybe you could use Valgaurd. He was picked to be used in this strategy for a reason.

Zealot, writing in The Book of Deathwalker 7000 reccomends using Deathwalker 7000 for this purpose.
