Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Played a 2-v-2 game of X-Wing the other night. My friend and I were the Rebels with his "Dutch" and 2 Rookie X-Wings and my Wedge and Luke against a total of 5 Academy TIEs, 2 Obsidian TIEs, Vader, and Maarek.
The weak TIEs lined up ti face-off against everyone but Wedge on one side of the asteroid field while the rest of the TIEs/Advanced angled in through it. Wedge meanwhile looped around behind the stronger TIEs. The first exchange of laser-fire went well for use, evening the odds a little bit, but it was all downhill from there. Shortly after the first TIE went down, so did a Rookie. NONE of our upgrades besides Luke/Wedges R2 units mattered at all. "Dutch's" Ion Cannon missed all its shots, both sets of Proton Torpedoes we brought missed, and "Dutch" never re-acquired a target lock with his R2. R2F2 and R2D2 at least help Luke and Wedge, respectively, survive for a while. Despite constantly running into each other and asteroids (though they only took maybe 3/10 hits from asteroids), the sheer number of TIE attacks overwhelmed the X-Wings, as I've yet to see NOT happen. IMO, the first wave favors TIEs slightly, and add to that great luck for the TIEs in almost every game I've played (almost always rolling 100% Evades against the few good attacks against them and often rolling all hits themselves) and our opponents had a solid victory with 5 TIEs remaining (though we did at least damage all but 2 of them).
Love the game, but looking forward to things that make it easier to beat the TIE swarm.
