Woodland Outpost - Small Version PDF

This is a smaller version of the Woodland Outpost map, more suitable for armies of 400-500 points. The towers create intense competition for the highest points on the map, but with several trees for cover and a defense glyph on the opposite side of the map, those on the low ground have a chance to overcome.

*Any form of movement (e.g., flight, summoning, "The Drop",) onto the tops of the castle walls is prohibited in this scenario. I would have simply left the castle ground pieces off of the tops of the walls, but I think it looks tacky in real life that way.

Vie for the control of two powerful glyphs by dominating the glyph area from height, but watch out for an enemy flank through the Hallway! The glyphs should be two random, permanent glyphs such as attack, defense, or wound in order for the tactical elements of this map to be fully realized.

As the title suggests, this map is designed for everyone to just go at each other!

A four-person free-for-all map in the heart of the Ticalla Jungle! The jungle brush is actually a much better LOS blocker in real life than it appears to be in Virtual Scape - this is one dense jungle that few ranged attacks will penetrate!

Special Rules:

1. Assume that there is a opaque barrier (e.g., trees) in the clear space between the start zones. In other words, no attacking from range over spaces where there are no hexes.

2. The two Brandar glyphs are intended to be either two Glyphs of Oreld (intercept order) or any two random, temporary glyphs.

3. In the two-player scenario, each player must divide his forces between the two like-colored starting zones. After drafting armies, players must roll the 20-sided die. The player with the higher roll places one army card's worth of figures in one of his start zones. Placement of figures alternates until all figures are placed.

Neither starting zone may contain figures comprising more than 70% of that player's army (in terms of draft points). I recommend army sizes of 600-700 for one-on-one play due to the larger size of the map - this also helps realize the interesting tactical features that the split start zones create.

That is a great map when it comes to line of sight being blocked. I wouldnt use many rangers or slow figures on that board.

Description:
  • Originally designed for 4 players, but can be adapted to 1v1 play. For the 2-player scenario, players must divide their armies (roughly) equally between the two like-colored start zones.   • There are many roles your armies have to fill on this map in order to play the terrain as advantageously as possible: 1)You need some solid ranged attackers who can exploit the castle walls and provide some deadly height attacks over the map. 2)You need some good flying characters (or perhaps Monks) who can flank and weaken the enemy range force on the castle walls. 3)You need some ground troops who can control the vital glyphs of Wannok and Astrid. Etc.
  • You could try this map without the bridge connecting the two fortresses. I kept it in though, because I think it will create more tension between the two armies in the fortresses, so they'll have more to worry about than simply raining down height shots on the ground forces.

However, as pictured, this map requires two RotV for the extra water tiles, though they are not necessary for gameplay; I just filled in the space between the two allied start spaces with water tiles for aesthetic reasons.

This is my first map for two players with split start zones (they still total 24 hexes each). You could play a 4-player game on this map and add some space to each start zone.
