1more Attempt to Push the Horgle Project

Since I had a little bit of time this summer to print out and work on a few customs, I decided to make some cards for the Horgle_Project. It has been a long time since I first looked into the project, and now over 4 years since any real thread activity. So, I have decided to offer up my versions of these customs.

I would have preferred to use the template that hextr1p created, but it required too much editing. So, I tweaked a custom template that was provided in GreyOwl's custom cards zip to create the backgrounds and my version of the Horgle cards. FORGIVE ME FOR NOT HAVING THE CORRECT TARGETING ZONES YET, but I only had KEYNOTE available for my editing, and I have not seen a way to properly insert the grey areas.

The first set of cards is based on most of hextr1p’s first and last Heroscape: Horgle custom card ideas (for a selection of Mage Knight Orc figures that he proposed for the project). I did slightly modify some of the items of the cards—such as the unit names and unit type (such as a unit being uncommon instead of unique). I felt that since the Dungeon and Dragons introduction of UNCOMMONS, that perhaps some of the Horgle units could now be uncommon rather than exclusively unique (especially since I have multiples of some of the figures). So, in the first set, I have tried to keep true to the proposed units in all other ways, including the main concept of providing low cost filler units. I will follow-up with new additions soon—including a slightly modified version of grungebob’s TARK from the Halls_of_Vahalla_Display_Thread

HORGLE HUNTER (aka KAG) - 1 game play tested

HORGLE MARAUDER (aka KOR) - 9 games play tested

Considering adjusting points to: 20

HORGLE HARKA PROWLER (aka URG) - 4 games play tested

Special Attack Correction through play testing:
LEAPING SPEAR THROW SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3. Attack 4.
Instead of normal movement and attack you may use Spear Throw Special Attack. Move this Horgle Ub-Khan up to two spaces of which normal movement rules apply, and then choose a figure within 3 clear sight spaces that is no more that 3 levels higher or lower than this Ub-Khan. Roll 4 attack dice against the chosen figure. If the chosen figure is destroyed, place this Ub-Khan on the space that was occupied by the chosen figure. If the chosen figure was not destroyed, place this Ub-Khan adjacent to the chosen figure and then place a Wound Marker on this card.
Considering adjusting points to: 25

HORGLE VIOLATOR (aka ORT)

Considering adjusting points to: 20

HORGLE BLASTER (aka FYR) - 9 games play tested

Considering adjusting points to: 25

HORGLE TRANCE WARRIOR (aka TOK) - 4 games play tested

Considering adjusting points to: 20

HORGLE HARKA (aka ONK) - 9 games play tested

Considering adjusting points to: 20

HORGLE WOLFKIN (aka PUK) - 5 games play tested

HORGLE HATCHETEER - 3 games play tested

Special Attack Correction through play testing:
HATCHET THROW SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 4. Attack 4.
Begin the game with a Hatchet Marker on this card. Use this attack only if there is a Hatchet Marker on this card. Choose a figure to attack. Remove the Hatchet Marker and place it adjacent to the chosen figure. When the Hacheteer moves to a space with a Hatchet Marker, place the marker on this card.
Considering adjusting points to: 40

HORGLE SENTRY (aka Nauroth) - 1 game play tested

Considering adjusting points to: 15

ANOTHER MODIFICATION FROM THE ORIGINAL PROJECT:
Considering the new units, higher cost units that I created or modified below, I thinki it necessary to modify the following from the original Horgles Project--in order to keep the flavor of supporting low cost filler mercenaries, while not allowing higher cost Horgles heroes the same "mercenary-based" benefit:

HORGLE MERCENARY DISPOSITION
A Horgle mercenary's personality does not affect the Special Powers of army cards you control.

The stats are based on information taken from hextr1p’s Horgle Project
PHASE_2
thread.

Re: 1more Attempt to Push the Horgle Project

Helpful additions--my own custom work.

UNIQUES:

HORGLE NAL-KHAN WITCH - 14 games play tested

Special Attack Correction through play testing:
Considering 80 points instead of 100 points
Eliminated HORGLE LUCK TOKENS and replaced it with
LIFE FORCE BLAST SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 6. Attack 6 -Special.
This Horgle Nal-Khan Witch's Life Force Blast Special Attack starts with 6 attack dice, but you must subtract 1 attack die for each Wound Marker on this card before rolling for Life Force Blast Special Attack.
MATERNAL LIFE LINK 9
When a Horgle figure you control receives one or more wounds from a normal or special attack, and it is in clear line of sight of this Witch, you must roll the 20-sided die if the wounds have not be ignored by another special ability or placed on another figure's Army Card. If you roll a 9 or higher, place all of the Wound Markers from the attack on this Army Card instead.

When choosing to draft an army of Horgles, The Horgle Witch allows for the vulnerable uncommon heroes to have more staying power, but she does not overpower them. If anything, the Nal-Khan Witch allows the Horgles to be slightly more competitive. I have tested two Nal-Khan Witches in an army, and they were not overpowered at 90-100 points each.

MINOTROC THE HORGLE CHAMPION - 12 games play tested

Points Correction through play testing: 120 instead of 110 points
Special Ability correction:
HORGLE TACTICS
Instead of taking a turn with Minotroc the Horgle Champion, you may take a turn with up to 3 common Horgle figures you control with 8 clear sight spaces, or with 2 uncommon Horgle figures you control within 8 clear sight spaces, or with 1 unique Horgle hero within 8 clear sight spaces.

Minotroc really opens up a Horgle army with a special ability that has already been used in classic Scape. Having him and a Nal-Khan Witch in a Horgle army is really fun.

OG THE HORGLE SHAMAN - 3 games play tested

FIXES: 5 Life, not 4 Life

Current play testing has been:
-against a 340 point Omnicron army (3 Omnicron Snipers + 1 Omnicron Repulsors).
-against a 390 point Jandar Army (2 x 4th Mass. Line, 2 x Knights of Weston, and Sir Gilbert(or Alastair MacDirk). This army match-up led to a lot of the considered point adjustments for the Horgle card. On average the Omnicrons won most of the battles against the Horgles, but the 4th Mass & Knights army tore through the Horgles. The point adjustments made the Horgle army a little more competitive, but it still lost more games on average against a class A army.

UNCOMMONS:

HORGLE FANATIC

Considering adjusting points to: 15

HORGLE BLOOD SHAMAN - 8 games play tested

COMMONS:

HORGLE GULTHAK - 9 games play tested

HORGLE BERSERKER - 8 games play tested

FIXES: Common Hero, not Uncommon and 1 Life, not 2 Life
Considering adjusting points to: 15

HORGLE LAUCHER

BONUS UNIQUE HERO:
TARK THE HORGLE TRACKER (slightly modified version of Grungebob's Halls of Vahalla "Tark" custom) Personally play test in 1 game.

Man way to bring it back old school. I will give these a try. I still remember buying a whole lot of MK for that project.

Re: 1more Attempt to Push the Horgle Project

Jeabird,

It's been fun trying to test out these figures while trying to fill in some gaps with more own creations. I would really appreciate any of your feedback. I have posted many notes about adjustments that I have considered based on my game testing, and hopefully this will help you and others that are interested in using these cards and figures when they're done.

BRIEF SIDE-NOTE: This is the first wave of customs that I have worked on in a while. This past year, I really started enjoying looking at other scapers' work since I really didn't have time to test a lot. It was easier to simply buy some minis and then print the cards like the C3V and C3G stuff, as well as some other custom work by Scytale--I went on a huge ordering miniatures spree this past Spring for the C3V and C3G stuff. I am also looking forward to Matt Helm finishing the Havokscape/Helmverse collection.

NO NEW CARD INFORMATION YET...

I am hoping to do these Horgle customs justice--especially since so much official stuff was released since Hex first had this brain-child. I hope to get more play-testing in once a week, with people through work (that also play Heroscape), now that I am back to a normal work routine.

I love the cards, but personally I disagree with the concept of making them all filler units (unless there was some super expensive kato katsuro-type guy to tie them all together.) I don't see why you don't just increase their stats and life and make them higher points? Just my 2 cents

I agree with you about increasing their individual life points to make them more potent, but I am trying to stay close to hextrip's original idea--at least for the units that he started in his thread. I believe he even found himself creeping up the life and points for each figure.

Yet, as you we're saying, I also thought they needed a strong hero to allow them more mobility. That was the thing that drove me to create Minotroc.

So, if you have some suggestion on how I can improve him and the other unique Horgles, I am definitely open to ideas and improvements--and I am willing to test them out.

Thanks for your 2 cents TheExplodingCheez.

Thanks for the comment and expressed support. I really like the original project, and I still think the figures are interesting and helpful filler units--even after all of the low cost D&D common heroes that were officially released.

ZBeeblebrox, also check out my suggested modification to HORGELE DISPOSITION at the end of my first post in this thread. Tell me if it seems to still fit well.

Fantastic! I love the fact that you not only brought this back, but you've flooded it with a ton of great customs. These look like a ball to play with. When I get a real chance to sit down and digest some of these, I'll hopefully be able to offer some feedback, but honestly everything looks so good.

And thanks for the shout out...

... I'm looking forward to it too. both A3n and I have been overly busy in activities off the site and on top of that he has the C3G to help keep on track. If he gets a chance, maybe he can get both Troopers on cards and the Kinsmen. After that, it's all up to me to get the rest. But that's for a different thread to discuss.

I hope more folks come and peek here to give you some support and assistance with fine tuning this project. Way to go 1more.

Matt Helm,

Thanks for stopping by, and offering some testing when you get a chance. I will be posting my most recent revisions of the Horgle cards soon--based on the revision notes that I have included up till now.

I am really excited to see new activity in you Havok Helmverse thread! I have copies of nearly all of the figures featured in your project--and I'm itching to print the final cards for my collection.
