There's one problem with your assumption. The Air Elemental gets a bonus against flying units so while they may be able to engage them they still have to fight against that bonus that they have against them.
If I have the flying figure, I'm probably not worried about subtracting one from my defense dice if the Naders (you know, like Tor-Naders) attack me.

If the Air Elementals have Kurrok, they could get 3 attacks of 3 against my flying figures with me rolling one less defense on their next turn, if I didn't kill the Air Elementals. The thing is though, if they used Earth or Fire, they could get 3 attacks of 4 (and Searing Intensity if they use Fire). 3 Attacks of 4 at normal defense is better for the attacker than 3 attacks of 3 at -1 defense (I think that's a true statement, at least most of the time). If they use Water, they don't have to engage and still might get 3 attacks of 4 if they have height/water.

If they don't have Kurrok, then I'm not worried at all because the Naders probably don't have OMs. And, if they do, they only get one attack of 3. I'm cool with that.
