Re: Heroscape: Legacy

I'll be organizing a tournament in April, and want to use Legacy/Heroscape:Evolution pricing for it, just as I did with our last Legacy tourney.

Here's hoping Cornpuff comes back to us before then. If not, I'll probably end up hijacking his system.

Did you try shooting him a PM? My limited detective skills tell me he's not as far as you might think...

Good luck with the tournament, typhon.

Another voice here (or rather, the same voice again), crying in the wilderness....

I'd love to see the Heroscape:Evolution (i.e., Legacy 2nd generation) prices made available as a nifty PDF and an Excel spreadsheet — as the 1st generation Legacy prices were — for easy download. Otherwise I'll have to use the 1st-gen prices for my tourney. Which won't be the end of the world, but will be a bit sadder.

This thread caught my eye, and I think this post is the one with the Evolution points. If so, I was able to successfully transfer them to an Excel spreadsheet by doing the following:

(1) Open the spoiler with Unit by Cost (Unit by Name will work the same way).
(2) Position the cursor to the left of the E in Evolution (the cursor changes from an arrow to an I-Bar when inside the spoiler.)
(3) Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor downwards until it goes below the spoiler. The text within the spoiler scrolls down as I do this, and the highlight extends below the spoiler. That's ok; just hold down until the scrolling in the spoiler stops at the last item. Do not release the left mouse button!
(4) Still holding the left mouse button down, move the cursor (should still be an I-Bar) upwards to position it at the closing parentheses ")" of the last item on the list. Only the items in the spoiler should be highlighted.
(5) You may now release the left mouse button. The highlight should remain. Right-click, and select Copy (or you can press Ctrl-C).
(6) Open a blank Excel spreadsheet. Select cell A1, Right-Click, and select Paste (or you can press Ctrl-V). The items should paste in different cells in a table layout rather than dump all the contents into cell A1.

Hopefully your system will operate in the same manner as mine, as you'll be able to get your spreadsheet!

I am getting back into the swing of 'Scape, and am curious to try this new point System, but it seems that CornPuff is nowhere to be found these days. What is to be done?

Well met!

Not only does the existing Legacy system need tweaking, but all the new C3V/SoV units, and their effect on other units, must be taken into account. When Heroscape was a done deal, there was an opportunity to create a similarly stable system from Legacy's most recent versions, but now things are fluid again, and it will be that much harder too do, assuming anyone extant is willing to take on the task.

There has not been a groundswell of Community support for Legacy, CUC, etc., as some of us had hoped. I also think that many new C3V units are addressing some of the issues of "errors" in pricing indirectly, with units like Elaria and Myrddin raising Kee-Mo-Shi's value, as well as flooding the market with well-priced new units. The result is that mis-priced units constitute an ever decreasing percentage of the total units in the game, undercutting the rationale for investing the time/effort in a new costing system.

In truth, even before C3V took off, I jumped ship from the Legacy Liner, in favor of scenario-specific work-arounds and "embracing the suck" (see The End of the Valhalla Society). Of course, if Cornpuff, or his successor(s), should happen to emerge with a new version of Legacy, with seasonal updates, inclusion of new units, etc., I could be open to cruisin' again!

Really? Pretty sure that is specifically not what cornpuff was trying to do:

Well met!

I believe that the Community, in what my friend, chas, has called the Age of Fanscape, is in the process of blurring the distinction between "official" and "custom" with its increasing acceptance of C3V/SoV as the new "official" units. They've certainly sold me (see
Goin' In Whole Hog)! I have no doubt the Cornpuff would be on board with their inclusion in Legacy.

Re: Heroscape: Legacy

First of all, kolakoski, Taeblewalker came all the way to Baltimore for a tournament and you did not join him. And I did not get a note excusing your absence. So you, sir, are in trouble.

Second of all, I am as involved in Fanscape in general and the C3V in particular as anyone, and as you know I was a judge for a long time in the SoV.

And I never thought we were blurring the line between "official" and "unofficial." There is a reason why all our front page announcements - and the C3G's, too - say at the top that they are customs.

They are *worthy* customs, and I am proud to permit them at my tournaments and proud to use them sometimes alongside the canonic 'Scape units, but I agree with R˙chean about the distinction between official and unofficial.

Whether Cornpuff wishes to include them in Legacy pricing is up to Cornpuff.

My Time to Shine - Savage, 5/21/11 was the last tourney I attended. I didn't even attend Islandscape (conflicting, as usual, with Karate Camp). Now that I am "retired" (involuntarily), I may be able to attend an event or two next year.

Second of all, I am as involved in Fanscape in general and the C3V in particular as anyone, and as you know I was a judge for a long time in the SoV.

I take your point. However, there is a distinction between the level of acceptance of customs in general and that of the C3V/SoV customs, which are "vetted" by such esteemed members of the Community (like yourself). Of course, if and when Heroscape is "revived," by Hasbro or some other company, the issue of official versus C3V/SoV custom will be clearly as you suggest. Until then, it is my impression that many in the Community, and soon, if not already, the Gang here in NYC (with Sherman and Taeblewalker as members), and, certainly, myself, treat (or soon will treat) new C3V/SoV units like they did "official" ones, eagerly discussing/anticipating their release, and playing them as soon as possible after they come out, without the usual questions of balance and viability that the word "custom" usually invoke. From where I sit, it could be argued that the system for sanctioning units for C3V/SoV is comparable to the "official" method in all but the exclusivity of the sculpts, based on what has been produced thus far, and who is involved.

Whether Cornpuff wishes to include them in Legacy pricing is up to Cornpuff.

Of course it is. And I believe that he will see the obvious benefit in including them.
It could be that my (our) situation (communicating/playing so often with Sherman and Taeblewalker) atypical as to acceptance of C3V/SoV, and my enthusiasm may be premature (as it certainly was for Legacy in the first place), but, whatever you want to call them, C3V/SoV is the closest thing to "official" that we've got right now, and I'm in favor of giving them a designation that acknowledges their unique status in the Community. With that in mind:

See Poll!

FYI- If anybody missed this... Con of the North (Saint Paul, MN) will be using legacy points at their Heroscape Tourney February 16, 2013.

I am already registered an excited to see some new army builds and see how well Legacy works... I have high hopes that it will work as it was intended.

"Legacy" has been resurrected as Delta; I suggest you use their values and give them feedback on how it goes.
