Usefulness vs. Fun
Wanted to discuss this but couldn't find a thread related to it, so I just decided to start my own. Anyway, What do you guys think about team drafting in casual play? Do you pick the strongest team or the one that's the funnest to play with? Personally, I prefer to use teams with synergy like elves, so then it feels like I'm not just choosing the most powerful cards. But then again, it is "fun" to win, and it may be easiest to do so by picking Q9, Raelin, and Rats. What do you guys prefer?

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
It really depends on who I'm going against. Some folks just can't have fun if they are losing, other folks wouldn't play unless you're competitive, while others, we can have a good time even if we're using the crappiest units. Me, I enjoy goofing around as well as being competitive.

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
I like a theme to my armies, like all Marro, or all Knights. Pretty much sticking to one general does it, though I don't have a problem mixing and matching if it makes sense (to me!), like Jotun and dwarves.

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
Personally, I go for theme... I have a hard time putting "evil" and "good" figures in the same army.

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
For casual play I love throwing ideas together to try. I always try to make the idea as competitive as possible, but the idea comes first. So if I want to play Acolarh, I play him with enough common elves to give his power a real chance to shine. I actually ran across one of my favorite competitive armies this way:
3xAxegrinders 210 2xRepulsors 80 Mogrimm 120 Raelin 80 Isamu 10 500/21 I got into a thought process that said having range 7 support for a melee army was a key to victory - even if the attacks weren't very strong. So I set about building the best army I could around the cheapest range 7 common. I placed pretty well in a tournament with these guys (honestly can't remember if I won or not). ~Aldin, finding fun ways to be competitive |

Well met!
"For casual play I love throwing ideas together to try. I always try to make the idea as competitive as possible, but the idea comes first." ~ Aldin A much better (and more succinct) description of what I do than any of mine. But I also do the same thing in tournaments. ![]() When I build an army in Delta/Delta+, it just feels right! |

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
wow, never had my thread necro'd lol (even if it is a fairly recent one). I agree with most of you, I like themes too. for example, thoguh the consensus on this site would be that it is terrible, I really like using a "Death" team (Deathwalkers, Deathreavers, and Deathstalkers)

Re: Usefulness vs. Fun
i usually get together with about 6 different people to heroscape every week so generally we play "free for alls" which is mix n matched armies, but occasionally we do 1000pt "army" battles with 1 draft army, but not allowing good with evil, neutral can go with who ever. always cause a blood bath with jandar + einar.
