Re: Dayton, OH RTW 7/21/12

I don't mean to seem like a noob, But what does an RTW round stand for? I'm interested in coming but don't know if I will be allowed or if I have football that day.

Also, what does full card scoring mean?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my ignorance

Re: Dayton, OH RTW 7/21/12

I might be able to get my parents to drive me, but I've only been playing Scape for about a month and I've really wanted to go to a tournament to see what it's like, so I guess what I'm trying to say is.. Can a somewhat noob like my self go to a tourney? I'm assuming anyone can go, but I just want to know.

RTW stands for "Reverse The Whip." It was introduced as the Main Event format at last year's GenCon (which is essentially Heroscape's unofficial national championship in the U.S.) This Ohio tournament is trying to simulate the Main Event on a much smaller scale so people can get in some practice, test out army ideas, etc.

The concept is simple: bring an army that you play with on Day One. If you can make it into the top 16 with a good enough record, then during Day Two, you play against your army for each remaining match until you are eliminated or you're crowned the champion. The reason for this format is to prevent the same, overpowered armies from making an appearance each year -- so you won't see as many Q9/rat armies -- with the challenge being to bring something good, but not so good that you can't beat it yourself on Day Two.

Here is the link to this year's GenCon events, where you can read the specific details: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ad.php?t=40542 Given you only have one day to play, this event is shortened to playing three matches with the army you brought, and then only two matches against it.

We just did something similar last month a little south of you here in Louisville. I posted the results/armies brought at the end of this thread: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ad.php?t=41260

Fullcard card scoring has to do with the points earned during a match (it helps resolve tie breakers when two players have the same record). So, if you do three wounds against Major Q9, you won't get any points for the damage done because you didn't finish him off. If you do kill him, you'd get his point total for your score, so you'd get 180 points. The other way to do it is the partial scoring format which does give you would get points for damage done, so 3 wounds would get you 135 points. It's easier to run a tournament with fullcard scoring.

Of course you can go! Tournaments are often held in game stores/comic shops for the very reason of exposing the game to the public in the hopes of making people aware and hopefully growing the hobby. Two months ago we were short one player for our tournament, but because we were in a game/comic store, we were able to convince a customer to spend a few hours playing with us and taught him the game right then and there. He lost his first three matches, and then won his last two!

WOOKIE is a great guy. Go to his event if you can, you'll have fun.

It just proves how easy it is to learn the game. I hope to see both you & GTigers55 there. The format is basic & Noob friendly It's always a good thing to play/meet new players at a tournament. For new players, I highly recomend this The Top 11 Most Frequently Overlooked (yet [ab]used) Rules
Thank you Deroche for such a detailed summery & praise.
I hope to face you soon

Bring whatever you want. A heroscape item, a custom painted figure, money or a product from another game system. If you can't bring anything don't worry about it. I usually bring extra.
First dibs on the prize table goes to 1st place & so forth.
