True, but I always like to find ways around using rats. My army is flexible, with both units being able to screen or be screened. BTW, I would love to face Eraguy's army against my 650 TSA army that is just as complex. It might be close.

I used the matchup calculator and TSA win at melee or range, but that didn't include position. The TSA won by more when each side had more squads, so I will win if we face with these armies. The Mezzos just need more attacks, but if you pair them with people who get more attacks, it becomes hard to justify taking a turn with them. The only way out is to minimize your opponents attacks, and that means rats.

3xRats 120/120
4xMezzos 260/380
Rae 80/460
Tae 180/640
Zeta 60/700

Rats swarm and kill the weak units, Mezzos kill the strong commons, and Zeta kills the strong heroes. With Tae, Rats get 4 attacks of 2, Mezzos get 2 attacks of 5, and Zeta gets 1 attack of 3 with deadly shot. All good are options even without height. The only thing its missing is a special attack.

An army I tried out in a 4-way game on a ridiculous map;

Mezzodemons x4
Raelin
Warforged Soldiers x2

for 500pt/15 hexes.

Warforged were my screen/melee force, Raelin directly behind them, surrounded by demons for protection. Its a turtle, but its worth it. At one point everyone got so frustrated they ganged up on me; I sent them packing with relative ease.
