New Scaper

As a younger child, I remember having a friend that owned RotV and we would play it whenever I went to his house. Now, I just recently rediscovered the game when one of my other friends suddenly got into it, and I look to do the same.
I see there's a huge fan base here, and I wanted to ask what I should get and where I should look if I am completely new to the game. I don't want to spend too much because I don't know if I'll get into it or not. And if I do, I'll buy more.
So...yeah. I look forward to your advice.

P.S. is there anywhere in east Tennessee where I could go play the game, like a tournament or something? So maybe I can play before I buy.

Re: New Scaper

Get: Whatever you can find. If you've got the cash, look around for someone selling everything and just buy it. Short on cash, Battle for the Underdark sets are still somewhat available.

Tennessee: Meet other scapers subforum should have a group for you.

P.S. Welcome to the site.

TL;DR: I put a lot of thought into my posts. Please read them before responding, even if they seem long. I try to make my posts useful and worth the time.

Re: New Scaper

In my opinion, ROTV is the best value in terms of quantity of pieces, power of pieces, and gobs of terrain. Swarm of the Marro is great, too. Battle for the Underdark is a really cool master set, but it's little small in terms of terrain. It can still be nice stand-alone with these map ideas: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...light=btfu+map

Any of these are good value even if you don't end up becoming obsessed with the game.

The nice thing is, even if you don't end up liking the game, its easy to just resell on ebay.

Re: New Scaper

Thanks! I ended up getting a used RotV since it was actually the cheapest master set I could find, strangely enough.

Re: New Scaper

Since the game went out of print, you'll have a hard time finding stuff. Check Craig's list, Salvation Army, and yard sales.

Good luck.

Re: New Scaper

Gday Crickc5,

I recently posed the same question see my post:

http://www.heroscapers.com/community...97#post1567497

The Scaper community gave me an initiation by fire and got me up to speed. The quality of the community here encouraged me to invest....
My post is based on the availability of the line in australia that can still be found. Alot of it was based on WOTC last clearout items so possibly you'll find it relevant...
