Reminder of how the final battle will be played: I'll randomly determine how the teams are paired, though I will force a 1000/1020 vs 1000/1020 (or 1000/1020 vs 1020/1000) instead of a 1000/1000 vs 1020/1020. Only one team per side will play at a time. Once a team is destroyed, the other team in the group will enter the start zone. Object is to destroy both teams on one side.

And who knows? Bob might emerge as the MVP. Stranger things have happened in my battles.

Pam: “We’ve arrived at Hydra Base Gehenna. I’m Pam, and we’ve got a full crew for our final battle! Tonight, we’ll announce the team pairings.”

Mike: “That’s right, Pam! I’m Mike, and I can’t wait to dive into the action!”

David: “Over here, I’m David. Are you absolutely certain the Hydra won’t return for a few weeks? I don’t think Madame Hydra would like us trashing her base like this.”

Bob: “I’m pretty certain they have plenty of bases if the teams do too much damage. And my name is Bob.”

Sock Puppet: “Ready to assist, my name is Sock Puppet! We’re now ready to announce our team pairings in this One Good Thing Leads to Another Battle. As a reminder, two teams will face each other, but each side will have another team in the wings once their first team is taken out. First side to knock out both of the opponent’s teams is the winner.”

Bob: “So let’s draw to determine how the teams will hit the field.”

David: “Ok, Sock Puppet, draw the first team! I hope it’s Team Filth!”

Bob and Mike: “What???”

David: “Sorry, I’ve got Summoner Wars on the brain. Please proceed, Sock Puppet.”

Sock Puppet: “The first team for Side A will be Team Deadpool’s Gang.”

David: “Since Deadpool enjoys making wisecracks, I’ll announce for that team. Deadpool is the only high point figure on the team. Captain Cold and Icicle both sat in the start zone on their debut battle, so we’ll see if they spring into action this time. Who are they going to face?”

Sock Puppet: “The first team for Side B will be Team Six Feet Under.”

Mike: “I’ll announce for that side. Doomsday and Solomon Grundy both have the chance to return to the game after getting killed, though Doomsday takes patience and sacrificing turns to make it work. So, once Deadpool’s Gang is defeated, who will enter the action on their side?”

Sock Puppet: “The second team for Side A to assist Deadpool’s Gang will be Team Skrull.”

Pam: “I’ll announce for their side. We’ve seen the Fantastic Four version of Super Skrull in the Fan Four Celebration, but we’ll be playing the X-Men version in this battle.”

Sock Puppet: “That leaves Team Sentinels to assist Team Six Feet Under for Side B.”

Bob: “And I’ll take the tall guys. We’ll see how well these tall figures move around this battlefield. Master Mold might decide to make this his own base.”

David: “So there we have it, folks!”

Bob: “And you need to remove those tea pictures, as our sponsor makes beer.”

David: “Well, I suppose you could call the stuff they make beer.”

Bob: “Don’t forget that they pay the bills, David.”

David: “You didn’t let me finish. I was going to add they you could call the stuff they make Nectar of Life.”

Bob: “That may be pushing things a bit. Let’s just call it Burt’s Beer.”

Fear not, the battle will get underway by this weekend. I've been distracted this week.

And Nomad had posted the Final Battle in his own tournament with his son, which has been an entertaining read. He and his son (and yes, even a couple of cute cats) have done an outstanding job with this.

David: “We’re ready to get the action started, Sports Fans! I’m David, and I’m joined by my good buddy, Mike!”

Mike: “It’s always a pleasure working with you, David! You’re not going to deny me some witty banter, are you? Pam was in a rush to start the previous battle.”

David: “Oh, I’ve got plenty of time to tell you about the wonders of tea, Mike.”

Mike: “I see the first two teams have taken the field, so let’s get the battle started.”

David: “Et tu, Mike?”

Mike: “Sorry. I’m a coffee person.”

David: “Starbucks?”

Mike: “Yep.”

David: “Let’s compromise and drink Burt’s Beer.”

Mike: “How is that a compromise?”

David: “As Bob keeps reminding us, they pay the bills. That includes my tea and your coffee.”

Mike: “I’ll take a Venti beer latte, please.”

David: “March forward, Fire Ants! They gather behind the base. Now Icicle marches forward.”

Mike: “Solomon Grundy stomps forward. There are two Order Markers on Doomsday’s card as well, so I think we know what this team plans.”

David: “Yes, and Doomsday’s team needs to keep that foremost in their mind. Capt. Cold moves forward.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps to the top of one of the structures.”

David: “Killer Penguins bond to The Hood, who moves forward. The Penguins waddle behind.”

Mike: “Solomon Grundy steps ahead.”

Round 2
David: “The Fire Ants continue their tunneling and reach the center. Capt. Cold takes to a ladder.”

Mike: “Doomsday moves along the roof.”

David: “Killer Penguins bond to The Hood, who takes cover with his Penguins on the other side of the building. It appears they will use the building for cover as they flank.”

Mike: “Solomon Grundy stomps forward towards where The Hood and Penguins will appear if they continue their flanking move. Doomsday and Grundy are flanking on both sides of the map to greet any comers.”

David: “Icicle enters the center and fires his Ice Darts Special Attack up at Doomsday. 1x2sk vs 1sh = 1w (5 left). He fires up at Doomsday with Ice Darts a second time, but 1x2sk vs 2sh is blocked.”

Mike: “Doomsday takes advantage of his Super Strength to jump down into the Heavy Snow Capt. Cold created without taking falling damage. He stomps towards Icicle and strikes. 5sk vs 2sh/1sk = 3w (1 left) and 4 knockback spaces. Icicle slams into an elevation change without taking damage.”

Mike: “Doomsday can’t reach Icicle through the Heavy Snow without Super Leaping, so opts to engage Capt. Cold and strikes up at him. 3sk vs 2sh/3sk = 1w (3 left).”

David: “Icicle realizes that surrounding Doomsday with his Ice Tiles are pointless due to Doomsday’s Super Leap. Icicle steps back to gain level ground with Doomsday and fires his Ice Darts. 0sk. 1x2sk vs 0sh = 2w (3 left). Doomsday is getting pierced from Icicle’s Darts.”

Mike: “Solomon Grundy enters the center and smashes down at one of the Fire Ants. It’s 8 attack dice vs 1 defense die. Will he do it? Stay tuned next time to find out!!!”

David: “Mike! Don’t keep our viewers in suspense. Resolve the attack! I can’t stand the suspense any longer!!!”

Mike: “Me neither! Ok, here it comes… 5sk vs 0sh = KO! (3 remaining) That was a nail biter!”

David: “Whew! Capt. Cold climbs up one rung, being careful not to break engagement with Doomsday. He fires down at Doomsday with his Cold Gun Special Attack. For each skull rolled, Doomsday will have to roll one fewer defense die. 1sk vs 2sh, and it’s blocked.”

Mike: “Doomsday strikes up at Capt. Cold. 5sk vs 2sh/3sk = KO! That clears the Heavy Snow.”

David: “Killer Penguins bond to The Hood, who moves into view to fire at Doomsday with his Double Attack. 1sk vs 3sh. 1sk vs 0sh = 1w (2 left). Now the Penguins line up to fire at Doomsday. They consider either three 2-die normal attacks, or nine 1-die Special Attacks. Bring on the Sub-Machine Gun Special, Penguins!!! They fire a hail of tiny bullets. 1w from the first Penguin (1 left). No damage from the second. No damage from the third. Doomsday’s plan is going according to schedule.”

Note: I realized while starting Round 4 that I forgot to consider Doomsday's Adaptive Resistance, which adds 1 defense die for each wound marker on his card. I re-rolled all defense dice, and Doomsday will end Round 3 with 3 Wound Markers instead of 5.

Team Deadpool’s Gang vs Team Six Feet Under (Rounds 4-7)

David: “Fire Ants are on the march! Two engage Grundy, while the other engages Doomsday. The ones next to Grundy strike with Poison Sting, where a roll of 15 (16-1) or higher will deliver 1 wound. The Ants keep rolling until they don’t deliver a wound. The first roll is a 4, which fails.”

Mike: “Doomsday would rather take down Icicle, but only one life remaining means he doesn’t want to risk breaking engagement with the Ant. Muttering an obscenity I can’t understand, since I can’t speak Kryptonian, he smashes the Ant. 4sk vs 1sh = KO! (2 remaining)”

David: “Penguins bond to The Hood, who fires his Double Attack at Doomsday. 1sk vs 5sh. 1sk vs 1sh. Penguins strike. First Penguin misses. Second misses. Third misses.”

Mike: “Grundy smashes at an Ant. Will he succeed? Tune in next week for the exciting results!”

David: “Noooo!!! I can’t take the suspense! Make the attack!”

Mike: “You’re right! I can’t stand the suspense, either! Ok, here goes: 5sk vs 0sh = KO! (1 remaining)”

David: “Penguins bond to The Hood, who fires at Doomsday with Double Attack. 1sk vs 2sh. 1sk vs 3sh. Penguins fire their Sub-Machine Guns. No damage at all.”

Mike: “Doomsday approaches Icicle and strikes up. 3sk vs 1sh/3sk = KO!”

Round 5
David: “The lone Ant remains next to Grundy. Deadpool decides he has the best chance at Doomsday. He fires down at him with his own Double Attack. 3sk vs 1sh = 2w (1 left) 3sk vs 1sh = KO! Deadpool’s team breathes a huge sigh of relief, though Doomsday has a great chance of returning.”

Mike: “Yes, Doomsday removes his first Wound Marker (5 wounds). When he removes the last Marker, he can return to the game!”

David: “Deadpool sprints forward and fires up at Grundy. 1sk vs 1+1sh. 1sk vs 1+1sh.”

Mike: “Grundy strikes down at the final Ant. 5sk vs 0sh = KO! (0 remaining)”

David: “Penguins bond to The Hood. The Hood reveals the X to give himself Flying. He flies to the top of the building and fires down at Grundy with Double Attack. 3sk vs 0+1sh = 2w (2 left) 2sk vs 1+1sh. The Hood must roll for his Cloak attempt. If he rolls 4 or less on the d20, he loses his special abilities. D20=8=safe. Penguins move, and only one can fire at Grundy with a normal attack. 1sk vs 0+1sh.”

Mike: “Doomsday removes another Wound (4 wounds).”

Round 6
David: “Doomsday steps into the center and fires his Double Attack at Grundy. 2sk vs 2+1sh. 4sk vs 3+1sh!!! Ouch!”

Mike: “Grundy approaches Deadpool and strikes. 3sk vs 2sh/2sk = 1w (4 left) and 1 knockback space. That triggers Bob, Agent of Hydra, to move 6 spaces.”

David: “Penguins bond to The Hood, who fires down at Grundy with his Double Attack. 1sk vs 1+1sh. 2sk vs 0+1sh = 1w (1 left). Now the Penguins move. They fire their Sub-Machine Guns at Grundy to bypass his Tough auto-shield. Out of nine attacks, only one skull was rolled, and Grundy blocked it.”

Mike: “Doomsday removes a wound (3 wounds).”

David: “Oh, boy. Bob takes a turn, but not our Bob. He’s drinking Burt’s Beer. This Bob moves behind Deadpool and fires down at Grundy. 3sk vs 2+1sh. Grundy is blocking left and right!”

Mike: “Doomsday removes another wound (2 wounds).”

David: “Crap!”

Round 7
David: “Deadpool moves across the shadow to fire across at Grundy. 4sk vs 2+1sh = KO! However, Grundy has a chance to return. Deadpool heals a wound (5 left).”

Mike: “Roll for Grundy’s Born on Monday 16. D20=3=nothing. Doomsday removes a wound (1 wound).”

David: “Penguins bond to The Hood, who moves down the ladder and jumps to the ground. Penguins advance.”

Mike: “Grundy’s roll=5=nothing. Doomsday removes the final wound and returns to the game. He Super Leaps next to a Penguin and strikes. 3sk vs 0sh/3sk = KO! (2 remaining) (Ooops! Doomsday can't move or attack on a turn he removes a wound.)”

David: “Deadpool climbs the ladder and fires down at Doomsday. 2sk vs 3sh. 2sk vs 1sh=1w (5 left).”

Mike: “Grundy’s roll=5=nothing. Doomsday approaches The Hood and strikes. 5sk vs 0sh/2sk = KO!”

David: “I think Team Deadpool are going to end Six Feet Under.”

David: “Because Doomsday acted on the same turn he returned from the dead, we’ll give Team Deadpool initiative in Round 8. Also, we’ll only announce if Solomon Grundy returns.”

Round 8
David: “Deadpool decides to climb down the ladder and retreat towards Bob. He fires at Doomsday. 4sk vs 1sh = 3w (2 left). 1sk vs 0sh = 1w (1 left). Yes, Doomsday remembered to roll 9 dice for defense.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps to the other side of Bob and strikes down. 3sk vs 1sh/0sk = KO! Why didn’t he go after Deadpool?”

David: “Because if he wounds Deadpool, Bob could use his #1 Fan ability to possibly place a fatal wound on Doomsday.”

Mike: “Oh!”

David: “Killer Penguins move, with one entering engagement with Doomsday. They fire the Sub-Machine Guns, hoping for a whiff. That’ll be tough with Doomsday rolling 11 dice. Doomsday has no trouble blocking all 6 1-skull attacks.”

Mike: “Doomsday strikes down at the Penguin. 6sk vs 1sh/1sk = KO! (1 remaining)”

David: “Deadpool pulls back and fires up at Doomsday. 0sk. 1sk vs 5sh.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps down next to Black Cat for an ambush! 2sk. Black Cat rolls the d20 for Bad Luck Aura = 16 = success! Deadpool must re-roll the 2 skulls: 1sk vs 2sh/2sk. Nice!”

Round 9
Mike: “Doomsday strikes Black Cat. 2sk. Bad Luck = 15 = success! Re-roll: 1sk vs 1sh/1sk.”

David: “Black Cat safely breaks engagement from Doomsday with her Cat Burglar ability and enters the center next to the last Penguin.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps above Black Cat and strikes down. 0sk! Some of Black Cat’s Bad Luck Aura is definitely rubbing off on Doomsday!”

David: “Black Cat’s Cat Burglar allows her to move through Doomsday to take position on the ladder to strike down! 4sk vs 2sh, and Doomsday goes down! The question remains: Will he stay down?”

Mike: “Doomsday removes a wound (5 wounds). So far, Grundy has remained silent.”

David: “Deadpool needs to wipe out the other side as quickly as possible. He takes height on a ladder rung and fires at the Moloids in the start zone. 2sk vs 1sh and 3sk vs 0sh takes down the first two Moloids (8 remaining).”

Round 10
David: “Deadpool takes to the roof and fires down. 3sk vs 1sh and 3sk vs 0sh takes down 2 more (6 remaining).”

Mike: “Doomsday removes a wound (4 wounds).”

David: “Deadpool easily takes down two more Moloids (4 remaining).”

Mike: “Moloids have appointed Mole Man as their One Ruler. Mole Man steps forward. He wants to keep on at least the rock terrain he’s on to receive the terrain bonuses that benefits both him and the Moloids. Shadow is even better for Mole Man. Now for the d20=11, which allows all 4 Moloids to take the turn. One risks leaving the rock for grass.”

David: “Deadpool fires down at the Moloids. His first attack whiffs, but he’s able to take down a Moloid with the other attack (3 remaining).”

Mike: “Here comes Grundy! Grundy returns next to Mole Man with 2 wounds (2 left). Deadpool removes a wound (3 wounds).”

Mike: “Deadpool removes a wound (2 wounds).”

David: “Ouch! Deadpool can’t get rid of these guys fast enough. He fires down at the Moloids and takes down two (1 remaining).”

Mike: “Doomsday removes a wound (1 wound).”

David: “Deadpool fires down at Mole Man, who is on rock. 3sk vs d20=6+2 (Subterranean Senses, which fails) / 0sh = 3w (1 left). 1sk vs d20=2+2 (fails) / 1sh.”

Mike: “Deadpool returns to the game.”

David: “Aaagh!!! Deadpool pulls back and fires down at Mole Man. 3sk vs d20=5+2 (fails)/3sh!! 2sk vs d20=1+2 (fails) / 1sh = KO! At least Deadpool doesn’t have to worry about him returning to the game!”

Round 12
David: “Deadpool moves around on the roof and fires down at Doomsday. 2sk vs 1sh = 1w (5 left). 2sk vs 3sh.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps to the roof above Black Cat and strikes down. 3sk vs d20=7 (no bad luck re-roll of skulls) / 2sh/1sk = 1w (1 left) and 2 knockback spaces off the ladder. Black Cat splashes safely in the water.”

David: “There’s a cat with nine lives! Deadpool fires across at Doomsday. 3sk vs 1sh = 2w (3 left). 2sk vs 1sh = 1w (2 left). That’s now 9 defense dice for Doomsday!”

Mike: “Doomsday decides he needs to take down Deadpool. He Super Leaps to the other roof and strikes. 3sk vs 2sh/3sk = 1w (4 left).”

David: “Deadpool moves around Doomsday and fires. 2sk vs 2sh. 1sk vs 2sh. Deadpool heals his wound (5 left).”

Mike: “Doomsday pivots around Deadpool. This maneuvering by both sides is purely for knockback potential. 4sk vs 2sh/3sk = 2w (3 left) and knocked back into the battlement. No knockback damage to either.”

David: “At the end of the round, Deadpool heals a wound with his X Order Marker (4 left). What has seemed hopeless for Team Deadpool is now showing some promise, though Team Doomsday still has the advantage. Don’t go anywhere, unless you need to use the restroom.”

Mike: “Or if you’re hungry. Then you should definitely grab you something to eat.”

David: “Or drink. Drink tea!”

Mike: “No, drink coffee!”

Bob (off-camera): “Burt’s Beer, you Bone Heads!!!”

David: “Hey, Bob!”

David: “Yes! Deadpool gets the first shot! He moves around and fires. 1sk vs 3sh. 3sk vs 2sh = 1w (1 left). Almost there! Deadpool heals his wound (5 left).”

Bob (runs in and pushes Mike off his chair, taking his place): “Wow, what an exciting match, fellows!”

Mike: “Hey!”

David: “You’re taking Team Sentinel. Now, shoo!!!”

Bob: “Ok.” (stands up and sulks as he walks off)

Mike: “I hope we didn’t miss anything. Doomsday strikes Deadpool. 5sk vs 2sh/3sk = 3w (2 left) and 2 knockback spaces. Deadpool tumbles to the ground and takes a wound (1 left).”

David: “Ouch! Deadpool will have to retreat and fire up at Doomsday. 2sk vs 6sh. 2sk vs 3sh. Deadpool heals 1 wound (2 left), but will it be enough?”

Mike: “Doomsday decides he doesn’t have to Super Leap to engage Deadpool, as he can jump down safely. Doomsday enters the shadow space below Deadpool and strikes up. 4sk vs 2sh/3sk = KO! Only Black Cat and a Penguin remain.”

David: “Deadpool loses his turn.”

Mike: “Doomsday Super Leaps next to the Penguin in the shadows and strikes down. 3sk vs 2sh = KO! (0 remaining)”

Round 14
Mike: “Doomsday walks up next to Black Cat and strikes down. 6sk vs d20=3 (fails) / 0sh/4sk = KO! Doomsday survives with 5w (1 left), Solomon Grundy has 2w (2 left), and Scarecrow and a Moloid don’t have any wounds. Now we’ll take a break, where Team Skrull will enter the game in Team Deadpool’s place.”

David: “Mike, I’ve enjoyed this immensely. I’ll watch the rest of the action from the break room, and Pam will return to take my place to announce the battle.”
