Though dawn has come, darkness still reigns...

The moon hangs low on the horizon, as Arik the Sentinel looks out over the long icy field. It was a long night, hours and hours passed by as the dark grew deeper and visability became slim. However, the sun was rising. Or at least, it should have been.

He looked out over the tundra, and he saw something that chilled him to the bone. Hundreds, thousands, millions of Zombies of Morindan began to march towards the castle. High above them flew Shades of Bleakwoode, led by Runa the Kyrie Warrior. Heavy Gruts marched behind, twisted smiles on their faces, while Einar's Imperium stood ready to invade at any moment with their Empress, Kiova. Kee-Mo-Shi chanted, far behind, laughing maniacly at the blood soon to be shed. Arik looked around for his allies, only to see them all dead or dying. On the hill top behind them was Kaemon Awa and the Tagawa Samurai Archers. He suddenly felt a wave of hopelessness pass over him, when he saw something before him. Eldgrim the Viking Champion was charging into battle, alone.

His vigor renewed, Arik flew into the air and called out to his troops, "CHARGE! THIS DAWN IS ONE OF DARKNESS! WE MUST DEFEND THE CASTLE!" Sentinels began to swarm from the castle, shouting battle cries. And so, the war began...

Wow! this is my LONGEST story ever! I'll post it in parts.

THE SIEGE OF FINN'S CASTLE
part one

The north wind blew a mighty gale, drenching the land with a war torn cry. The blood red sun rose up into the sky as a mighty battle ragged below. Finn the strong’s castle was under siege from the heartless Dreadgulls, a band of Vikings that believed in no gods or king but only the lust to kill all in there path. The leader of the Dreadgulls, Ulrick and his son Valgaurd led the onslaught to eradicate there rivals the Tarn Vikings.

At the northern gate, the Dreadgulls had breached the wall and where pouring over the gate like a raging flood that could not be stopped, killing the Tarn by the dozens. Thorgrim was hacking away at the raiders with his sword, now dripping crimson blood.
“Die you worms! I shall bring your miserable lives to an end!” The Thorgrim saw an axe carved from the bones of defeated enemies flail though the air towards his chest.

At the western wall all havoc had broke loose, the Dreadgulls had burned the homes of the Tarn to the ground and the woman and children lay slaughtered in the blood stained dirt, there spirits going to the golden halls of the gods that they believed in. Finn was killing more Dreadgulls that could be counted for. A young Viking no older than 18 called out to Finn, “ We can’t hold the walls! We have to retreat to the forest!”
Finn replied in a thundering voice that could scare a bear away, “I’ll fight to the death if I have to, but I will never surrender! I shall not settle for a cheap seat in the halls of
Odin!” There fate had been decided, they would not waiver to the attackers even if the trumpets sounded and the Day of Judgment came.

The fires roared though the castle as the attackers waged their battle. A Viking named Eldgrim sliced though the ranks of the Dreadgulls like a hot knife though butter, killing all that came to try to dispatch him. “I’ll slice your innards out you sons of Loki!” Then a lumbering man almost 7 feet tall pushed his way though he crowd and called out in a voice as deep as the sea, “Eldgrim! Come here and fight a worthy opponent!” Eldgrim looked up, he couldn’t believe his eye’s, before him stood a man in blood stained armor, he wielded a mighty battle axe that was almost the size of Eldgrim himself, and his helm bore a human skull, it was Ulrick himself, and he was challenging Eldgrim to combat.

The attackers had taken the gate, some of them were hailing arrow from above upon the suffering Tarn below. Thorgrim and his men where surrounded by Dreadgulls, they’re crooked swords and banged up shields where covered in the blood of fallen comrades that Thorgrim had held close to him. They always tried to break the Dreadgull’s ranks but with no avail. Then a man with a crimson helm and a wooden hammer charged Thorgrim and nearly sent him spiraling into the remains of a house. Then Thorgrim said, “Valgaurd! Call off your men!” The Dreadgulls burst into uncontrollable laughter, wiping tears from his eye’s Valgaurd responded, “And why would I do that? To let you read me a poem on how undefeatable we are?!” He was once again sent in to a fit of laughter, Thorgrim calmly replied, “So I can defeat you in a fair fight! I shall call off my men if you call off yours!” Valgaurd picked up a shield from a dead warrior and gave off a devilish grin, “Very well Thorgrim, I accept!”

Eldgrim raised his axe, taunting Ulrick with it as the beast of a man charged toward him. They fell into a storm of blows, sparks flew of there weapons as the two parried each other’s blows. Eldgrim swung for a cheap shot and almost succeeded but Ulrick blocked it with his bare hand. Eldgrim, his smile torn off his face seeing the warlord block a axe with his bare hands said, “Well that’s a nice trick.” Ulrick grinned and replied, “You should see my next one! “He grabbed Eldgrim by the face and threw him though a wall, laughing madly he grabbed his axe and charged at his short competitor again.

PART TWO

On the other side of the castle Thorgrim and Valgaurd were trading blows and shouting insults so vulgar it would make a stone-drunk man leave a tavern and move out of the country. Thorgrim was losing ground fast, He could barely stand up he was so tired.
“Losing you strength Thorgrim?” Taunted Valgaurd, who was in perfect condition. “I’ve only begun the fight you cur! “He spit after saying his sentence and charged at Valgaurd again, even though there was no hope to win.

Eldgrim slowly picked himself up groaning and rubbing his head, He was inside the castle, not only that, he had broken though at least two rooms. Then Ulrick started to smash a bigger hole so he could get in to his opponent. Eldgrim was about to charge but he stopped and thought, “No no no! Think Eldgrim think! Charging at him only gives me more problems, and he can stop an axe with his bare hands! He didn’t even wince! I’ve got to get my head out of the clouds....” Then he looked up and chuckled, “Time to get it out.” He climbed up the wall using his axe as a pick, he slowly made his way up to the top of the door way and jumped on to a shelf then hid himself and waited for the lug to walk in.

Then a few minutes later, Ulrick came in, he looked for Eldgrim but could not find him,, in anger he called out, “ Come and fight you coward! So I can rip your limbs off!”
Then a small voice said, “OK!” then Eldgrim came out of hiding and cut a rope, this rope was the one that supported the chandelier witch came crashing down on Ulrick. Eldgrim jumped down and teased, “Please, don’t get up.” Then ran out side to help his friends in battle.

Thorgrim swore out of pure frustration as Valgaurd Hit him across the chest with his hammer, blowing the wind out of Thorgrim. “ Give it up Thorgrim! You know you can’t win!” Two where standing next to the ruins of a wall, it had stood for years but could not stand up much longer, Thorgrim knew this. “ I’ll never give in! then He slammed the wall with all his strength, it creaked but did not fall, Valgaurd laughed, “ Thought you could bury us in the remains of this wall! That is the most desperate, weak…” his voice trialed off as Eldgrim climbed up that very wall they were fighting against, then he chuckled and said, “ Eldgrim you little dog you.” Then he climbed to the wall next to them and saw a loose stone, he pried it off with his axe and carried it a ways. Then when he was above Valgaurd he dropped the boulder. Valgaurd looked up swearing, he tried to run but was too late. The boulder crushed his arm and sent him writhing in pain. He screamed as he saw Thorgrim run off and cursed all in his family to a slow death, after hours the Battle was over, and every one was gone, Then an angle came down and picked up Valgaurd, Einar had brought him to Valhalla….

THE END?

LET’S HOPE NOT!!!

I like that. The short, tricky guy. I really like your charactorization of him, it really seems like a short little guy should be. Maybe you should start a series; The Miscellaneous Adventures of Eldrim the Viking!

Here's mine. It is short, but I really like it.

Runa thought back as she sat at the side of the river polishing her helmet, how she had gotten it. It was a gift from archkyrie Mittonsoul for her assistance in his siege of Durgeth. At the time, he had no understanding of its ability, and neither did Runa. But soon she did. She would use her new found ability to smite enemies in her path, and soon she became Mittonsoul's most glorified warrior. But she had become even more greedy in her thirst for power, and eventually she turned on her master Mittonsoul, and smote him with her power that, ironiccly, had been given to her by the one who had been destroyed by it. But Runa did not take control of the archkyrie's position, for soon after, Mittonsoul's brother Migol took the position of archkyrie. This angered Runa extremely, and after this occurance, she only doubled her effort to become the archkyrie. But when archkyrie Migol was killed in battle, he was succeeded by his son, and then by Migol the third. Runa then saw her chance to take power when Migol III died without a successor. The throne was in her grasp, but as she reached for it, she was once again thwarted. For the the wellsprings had been found. This discovery started wars across valhalla, and brought many new warriors to the land that was once alive and prosperous, but now was a barren wasteland with no need for the position of archkrie. Runa's quest for power seemed at an end, but then she was recruted by General Utgar, and her thirst for power, which was not smothered, realized her chance to seize power and grabbed at it. By being Utgar's right hand, she had many chances to take power. For if Utgar died, Runa would succeed him after Taelord. But battle after battle Utgar survived, however injured. Runa realized that her only way to vanquish Utgar would be to use the power she had used on Mittonsoul. By killing Utgar, she would only have Taelord in her way before power was hers. And Taelord was not much of a threat, she could dispatch of him easily in a duel. But General Utgar seemed to be impurvious to her curse. She had one last idea, and that was to ambush Utgar and kill him with sheer force. That was why she was there, to ambush Utgar. She had lured him here by a story of a wellspring that was rumored to be in this forest clearing. But he had not showed up yet. Runa had waited for hours and yet Utgar did not come. She was ready to depart when she heard a disturbance in the forest. Perhaps it was Utgar. She hid herself in a tree to wait until he was in striking distance. Her orcs would take care of his auntourage. She saw him approach, saw victory feet away, saw her centuries of waiting pay off. And then she struck. With a mighty swing she killed Utgar. For moments she thought that victory was hers, but then the last of her orcs fell to the deadly strike of the minions of their fallen master. And after dispatching of her soldiers, they closed in on her. She struck down several of them with her curse, but the others kept advancing. She cut into one with her sword and killed another with her curse, but then she was cleaved in the side by one of the minion's axes. She felt blood pour out of her side and fall to the forest floor. But she fought on, encouraged by her victory against Utgar. The minions were feirce opponents though, and she had become weak in her old age. She fought bravely, but the minions were to powerful for her. She was eventually killed by one of them. In her last breaths she saw her life flash before her eyes. Her life, wasted in the fruitless pursuit of power, and now ended in it. Utgar may have fallen, but so had his enemy. Taelord would take control of the armies of Utgar and lead them onto many victories, and Runa would never gain the power she seeked.

THE END

Dan's Mom: "Why you persist in acting like a fifteen year old is beyond me."

Dan: "I'm filled with reckless desire."

Let Beat the Drums of War

A strong crisp wind blew across a small reinforced Kyrie village resting at the edge of the Wellspring of Kailden. The Village of Kailden had held off Orcs under the Hawk of Utgar for many months but supplies had been running low, The Sentinels who have survived the constant attacks have trained all but the infants to wield a Sword, Shield, and Spear. The once beautiful soil around Kailden had become a richtus blue and green. Yet Grimnak, The leading Orc who rode upon a scaly beast whose head scraped the clouds in the blue sky above, had finally received his elite reinforcements from the foothills of the Kyrien Mountains. Recently summoned from Grut, these Orcs were taller, stronger, smarter, armored, and carried long spears which they wielded with deadly precision. Yet fate has always has been against the Kailden militia and their leader Velkan. Velkan stood high upon a watchtower watching the new orcs. As he watched a shout could be heard from Grimnak . "Gets in rows you slobs, we's be doing some killing" Grimnak shouted, from atop of his disgusting beast. "Whats do we do whens wes sees a Bird man withd his back turned" He yells rallying twelve rows, to his cause. The mob of Orcs shouts their reply to their leader, "We's cuts der wings of and beats'em dead with it!" "Alls right boys' three rows to a leader, One Heavy row, One Arrow row with Swogs, and One Blade row" Grimnak cried with a bloodlust in his eye.
The months of war with the Orcs had led Velkan to estimate the numbers in a row. He had estimated them at about the size of a battalion. As the rows lined up war drums beat and Ornak shouts his command "At the 20th bang we's rush'em." The war drums meant one thing, brace the gates and keep these blue b@stards out of the town. Four kyrie lifted a large log and braced the gate. Kyrie trained in the ways of the bow mounted the warped wood planks above the gate and readied for the mass rush by the Orcs. Velkan stood with his troops and assured them of victory. "On the Blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons, we will fight" Velkan shouts to raise the already low morale of his troops which he himself believes they fight a blue wave which will drown them in their own blood. He counts the beats "Nineteen, Twenty" he mumbles and then the orc rally call is let loose. "It time for some kill'en " the mob shout and they rush the fortress town. As the orcs rush, 4 volleys are released, 2 from Arrow Gruts and 2 from Kailden's defenders. Various Blades and Arrow gruts fell but so did the kyrie archers. The Gate shuddered and the log broke Kyrie rushed and braced the gate trying to keep the orcs out. "Steady" Velkan shouts trying to settle Sentinels and militia around him. It didn't help, as a spear lashed through the gate and impaled a kyrie bracing the gate straight through the face. The hole soon got bigger and the orcs entered and swarmed the defenders. The first Heavy Grut who entered attacked the nearest kyrie. The kyrie met the challenge and brought his blade down on the orc. The orc blocked and flung him off balance and pushed the spear through his chest. The kyrie still fought and tried to stab a dagger through the orcs hand, but the orc was too quick and mauled the kyrie in the neck and severed his vain. Blood spewed everywhere and this was a sign of things to come. Many fought valiantly but it was in vain and within minutes Velkan was the only one who stood. Out of the mob of orcs a Heavy Grut captain came forward and shouts towards Velkan, "I's gonna kill you and mount your head on a pike". He rushed; Velkan drew his two scimitars to bear and blocked the spear. Yet the orc pulled his dagger and jabbed it into Velkan's belly. The world around Velkan went red and he felt his life fleeting from his body and he fell to his knees. Velkan looked up only to see the Heavy Grut who had now essentially ended his life place a blade to his neck. The Grut pulled the sword back and brought it forward and Velkan's world went black.

The Battle for the Runif Lleeh (KW 21)

Chief Kapired the Wily entered the arena to see his challenger. A towering runif entered the arena, giant club in hand. The third battle today, he grew weary of constantly fighting for his position as leader. Big warriors, little warriors, warriors with rocks, they all tried to overcome him, and they all failed. For Kapired had one thing they didn’t – he had a brain. Instead of relying on weapons and brute strength, he used trickery and deceit. Its how he kept his position for fifteen years, unheard of for runif chiefs.

But time had withered the once great ruler. You see, the air quality atop the Kyrien Mountain Range is so deplorable; all of its inhabitants have severely shortened life spans of only fifty years! Kapired, almost forty years old by now, was slowly withering away. And his subject noted. It was for this reasons challengers had begun to appear more frequently. Lifting his staff, made of thick wood, he began the battle.

The challenger lumbered over and swung his club into the chief’s side, knocking him a good twenty feet into the stone colosseum’s walls. Kapired felt his arm snap out of place, and looked over to see it bent backwards at the elbow. Fixing it, he got up again and pulled a torch out of the wall. Lifting his staff into the air and lighting it on fire, he flew into the air and charged down at his aggressor, jamming the stick into one of his eyes.

The hulking runif fell to the ground, screaming in pain. But he soon rose, grabbing Kapired by the arm and tossing him to the hard, cold earth below. Blood pouring from his empty, scorched eye socket, the challenger stood up and placed his foot onto the chief’s chest, ready to crush him under his girth. Kapired waited for his end, but it never came. The runif had fallen backwards, his skull crushed by a falling snow. Looking at the sky, he saw what was happening.

Hundreds of kyrie, their great wings deep brown, flew above the mountain. Shirtless, they’re faces were masked by golden slabs, with small slits for eyes. The runifs in the crowd stared at them in wonder, most of them not knowing what these strange creatures were. Kapired, however, knew all to well. They were The Einar Imperium.

In his strange tongue, the chief called out to his men, begging them to defend the mountain. Grabbing whatever they could to fight, the soldiers flew into the sky to protect their home, but the speedy assailants avoided them with ease and went towards the crowds of women and children. Twin swords in hand, they began to mercilessly slaughter the innocents, as the chief shambled to his feet. He was coughing, freezing cold and badly wounded. Looking at the crowd, he drew the still burning staff from the ground and ran up to battle.

Meeting a warrior face to face, he charged forward in a blind fury. But his attack was cut short, as the warrior kneed him in the stomach and drew his blades. Kapired, on his knees, looked up at the faceless creature, trying to find a glint of humanity in his face. But he could not. The fighter moved his swords, fast as lightening, slicing the once-proud chief into pieces and splattering blood across the polished floors…

The same scene was happening across the colosseum. Hundreds of warriors fell, alongside their murdered families. Finally, one runif called to the survivors, “We must retreat! To Utgar’s castle!” All of the remaining warriors defended their families and ran, to the west, to safety…

But the Imperium would not have it. They charged after them, wordless, seemingly lifeless. Whatever stragglers they could find were dragged to the ground, miles below, and killed in cold blood. Watching their prey leave, the soldiers turned around. They must inform Einar. Their job was done.
