Philadelphia, PA Tournament - 9/18/10

Its time for Philadelphia’s first second Heroscape tournament! It will be held on September 18th, 2010 at Redcap’s Corner game store. The website can be found HERE and the address is:

Here are the specifics for the tournament:

What to bring:
Figures, their cards, dice, wound markers, and order markers

Army Construction:
Lets try a 600 point Heroes Only format. Your army may only consist of Heroes (unique, uncommon, or common) and can take up no more than 24 start zone spaces. Marvel figures are not permitted.

Timeframe:
The tournament will consist of five 50 minute rounds. We will begin set-up at 11AM and start rolling dice around 11:45. Including tournament clean-up and awarding prizes, we should finish up around 5:30PM.

Fee:
$5 per participant will be collected with all of the money going toward gift certificates that can be used at Redcap’s Corner. Redcap's does sell HS merchandise as well as other great board, card and miniatures games.

Food:
Recap's Corner allows outside food and drink in there store, so feel free to bring a snack or two along with you. There are vending machines available in the store as well. We will not be stopping for a lunch or dinner break.

Maps:
There will be a total of 12 maps. I will need volunteers to bring and build some of these maps. Thanks in advance for your help.

Glyphs:
We will be using treasure glyphs on most, but not all of the maps. Here are the treasure glyphs we will be using:

Whetstone of Venom (poison)
Ring of Protection (Def +3)
Elixer of Speed (Move +4)
Belt of Giant Strength (Att +2)
Cloak of Invisibility
Bracers of Teleportation
Heroic Rune (Att+1)
Brooch of Shielding (Disengage)

Red = Permanent Black = Temporary

I will have a few cheat sheets with the rules for all of the treasure glyphs available at the tournament, but please take a moment prior to the event to familiarize yourself with them.

There will be three maps that will not utilize the awesomeness of the treasure glyphs: Turret Rocks, Fulcrum, and Vorago. All of the other maps will use random treasure glyphs in the power/treasure glyph locations. Maps will have between 1 and 4 glyphs depending on the build instructions. Players will randomly draw glyphs at the beginning of the match and place them facedown on the map.

When rolling to pick up a treasure glyph:
6-20 pick up the treasure glyph and place it on the Unique/Uncommon Heroes card.
1-5 you have sprung the trap! Your opponent gets to immediately roll a three dice normal non-ranged attack against your hero. Your hero can defend against this attack normally.

How will players and maps be selected?
Players will be assigned randomly for the first round. After that round I will match up players with similar records (for example in round 2 the 1-0 players will be randomly paired and the 0-1 players will be randomly paired). This way by the end of the tournament, we should have a clear 5-0 winner or a 4-1 winner with the most points (see below).

Maps will also be assigned randomly. Once I get the players assinged I will look at the maps that they have both played on and put them on a map neither has played.

At the end of each round players will add up the value in points that they have destroyed throughout the course of the game. Typically the winner will have wiped out his opponent and will score the full 600 points. The loser will add up the points for each figure they completely destroyed. This is different from what we normally do so please feel free to ask any questions regarding the change.

If a game ends on time both players will add up the points they destroyed and whoever has killed the most points will be determined the winner. If the game is still tied after adding up points, the game will be called a draw and we will throw rotten fruit at both of you for messing up my scoring system.

Alright guys, I am ready to have my second tournament here in Philly. I am open to ideas for a format, but I am really leaning toward a 600 point Heroes Only format with Treasure Glyphs (similar to the GenCon format). Let me know what you guys think and if you can make it.

Glad to hear you guys are planning on making it out. To answer Arcus' question, ANY hero (unique, uncommon, or common) would be eligible to include in your army build. Yes, this means that you could roll out with Kurrok and the Firestorm if you want to (I promise I won't though).
