Cerberus - added 2/6/10

Completely snowed in today, so I thought I'd break out the 'scape since there's no chance of anyone coming to look at the house today. I put this three player dungeon map together, which we'll be using with some of the great DC customs from around the site. This set screams BATMAN to me - someone needs to make a Batcave map with it. Hmmm...

Cerberus - added 2/6/10

The map looks great! Are you using the new Treasure Glyphs on Cerberus or are you sticking with the standard glyphs?

I've been trying to find good three player maps and now you make one that also uses my favorite set! Thank you! Is it pure classic or are you going to make it part of a campaign?

Made a slight update that uses the pieces a bit more efficiently. Sometimes you just have to build it to see what you're doing wrong, I think. We tried it tonight w/ the Batman-related customs; I snagged a whole pile of Batman Alpha Heroclix a while back for $3 a booster and ended up with nearly a whole set, so we had a nice selection to work with.

Treasure glyphs; I don't think there'd be a problem w/ regular glyphs though. The treasure glyphs were great w/ the comic customs.

Pure classic for the moment. I don't do a lot of scenarios but that's not to say it won't happen.

We played a 540 game on cerberus today. I played 3x Drow,
3x Feral troll, Otonashi, and 1 squad of rats. My first opponent (player 2) played Abomanation, 1 squad of protectors, and Crixus. My other opponent (player 3) played Mimring, Krug, Me-Burg-Sa, Syllvaris, 1 squad of Venoc Vipers, and Kelda. We placed random treasure glyphs around the outside with a random normal glyph in the center.
In the first round we started moving the rats and Crixus toward the center. Player 3 moved the Venocs toward my start zone. I engaged with one squad of drow and killed two Vipers. I took the center glyph (Astrid) and inflicted two wounds on Crixus. Crixus killed one of my rats. Player 3 moved Syllvaris to height overlooking player 2's start zone and inflicted two wounds on Abomanation.

Second round. I killed the last venoc with my drow. Player 3 moved Krug toward the center. Abomanation super leaped to Syllvaris and whiffed on the attack. I attacked Crixus again with the rats and inflicted one wound. Player 3 moved Kelda to heal the surpisingly unhurt Syllvaris. She attacked Abomanation. Which did nothing. Abomanation killed Kelda with one attack. I moved my Drow toward Player 3's start zone. Player 3 moved Krug to the center and whiffed while attacking Cixus and the rat on Astrid. Somewhere in this round Crixus gave Krug six wounds. Crixus was also killed. :Shrug:

Third round. I moved my Drow in to attack Mimring. Only one made it the entire way and thus only inflicted two wounds. Syllvaris attempted to take the treasure glyph and sprung the trap, taking two wounds. Abomanation attacked and Killed Syllvaris. I moved two more Drow adjacent to Mimring, killing him. Abomanation Super leaped to engage Krug, but whiffed on the attack.

Fourth round. Krug immediately kills Abomanation. he double attacks and kills a rat. I scatter another onto Astrid. Player 2 is out for the round. I move my Drow and kill Me-Burg-Sa. Player 3 is out for the round. I move my drow toward Krug.

Fifth round. I attack with my Drow and kill Krug. Player 3 is out of the game. Player 2 moves the protectors towards my start zone. I engage them with my third Drow squad. I lose one Drow while killing the Protectors.

Bottom line. This map heavily favors the Drow. You made an incredibly fun, balanced map that uses the dungeon set that allows classic battles. Great Job!

Yeah, I can see this being a great map for the Drow. How big of a factor was Astrid? Personally, I'm not a big fan of it as I find that it tends to swing the game too far in favor of one army. I'd personally use Ulaniva over Astrid, but that's just me.

At any rate - glad you enjoyed. Sounds like you had a fun game!

Astrid was a huge factor in the game. Like I said we were using a random glyph there so the next game could be completely different. We never even got a treasure glyph.

nyys posted some comments on two of my maps from the 2010 TotalCon event which are most appreciated. I always love it when someone plays a map that I've designed and the experience that I'm trying to convey comes through. I think that's the real challenge of map building - not putting together a map that's balanced or fun, but rather one that's memorable and creates a unique experience for the player.

My pleasure MW. My son was really jonesing to play Scape tonight and he had no patience at all for set-up unfortunately. I tried to tell him to wait 20 minutes so I could build Quasatch Playground, but he was in one of those hyper overdrive moods that come on after too much stimulus (we went bowling earlier tonight). So we ended up playing a couple games on Fossil, which was already set-up (and I needed a couple more games on it anyway for BoV review).

This weekend though, I plan to set-up a bunch of maps that need to be reviewed, but I'm also sneaking QP in there as well.
