First and foremost I want your feedback. I'm a novice Custom Creator and a relative newcomer to Heroscape. I am especially uncertain of how much my figures should cost, so advice in that area is especially appreciated.

Big thanks to all the custom creators on this site who have given me inspiration and great tools to use for my own creations. You guys [and gals?] are freakin' amazing, and I hope that my work can approach some of the customs here eventually.

So here is my first one, DC Comics' beautiful but deadly QUEEN BEE!





Basically, I wanted to make her work as part of the Marro since we always play with mixed Classic/Supers anyway, and thematically she seems to fit pretty well. I stole the wording for her mind confusing 'Pollen Powder' from Dund.

Please, as this is my first attempt, be as blunt and critical as necessary... I can handle it! I did make every effort to compare her to both official units AND customs, but what the heck do I know?

I'm working on a common squad of H.I.V.E. Troops to compliment her AND make her work thematically without the Marro. I should hopefully have that one finished in a few days.

Other customs I'm working on are actually for the benefit of my girlfriend who is into any 'Patriotic' heroes. She always uses Captain America [btw, big shout outs to GreyOwl for the nice Falcon and whitestuff for the spiffy Patriot... you saved me some work!], so I want to add Uncle Sam, Liberty Belle and Union Jack to the mix.

Comments? Ok, well, I wouldn't put any superhero into any of the regular HS general's army. Using a non-general card would allow you put the 'DC' icon up the top of the card, like the Marvel cards.

I would have a look at Captain America's Shield Throw wording to try and tighten up the Wrist Stinger wordage.

'Range' and 'Attack' don't need to be in allcaps.

I'd move the specials text up a bit to reduce the amount of white space.

Some custom makers prefer to use this symbol ---> at the bottom to represent the 'Flying' ability (sort of like the super strength icon that the marvel cards use). Some don't. Whatever floats your boat.

GreyOwl has some fantastic customs tools just here...

I just wanna echo what whitestuff said and add a little of my own:

1) Seriously, use GreyOwl's tools. Thye're indispensible for superhero customs.

2) It's a solid custom for your first attempt. Basically, you combined Dund with Kaemon Awa and added flying. I think it was a pretty wise move not to try coming up with new powers for your first custom.

3) 210 points seems a bit too much for Queen Bee. 150 seems more in the ballpark.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys, and from two of my favortie customizers no less!

I did use GreyOwl's amazing set of creation tools... I believe that's his Utgar card, already in handy-dandy Photoshop format.

I have made the changes you have suggested with the exception of the Utgar card... it's just an aesthetic choice for me, but since I mix Marvel with Classic, and I have many more Classic figs, I like them all to follow that style. I even made a Jandar card for Captain America... all the same stats, just on the Classic style card. In fact I plan on making a Classic style card for all 10 Marvel units.

My version of Animal Man for Heroscape is based on the character reaching and realizing the full potential of his 'Animal Mimesis'^ power, as shown in the latter chapters of Grant Morrison's run on Animal Man. In a nutshell, Animal Man went from being a guy who could temporarily mimic the power of any animal near him to basically becoming a godlike / elemental being who could access the natural abilities of any living creature on earth by tapping into a cosmic lifeforce [or "morphogenic field"] called 'The Red'*. He is one of my favorite comic characters, and there is a nicely sculpted and inexpensive miniature of him available from the DC HeroClix line. I just HAD to get him into Heroscape!

Looking at GreyOwl's excellent Animal Man card, and pondering in his customs thread the problem 'How do you make Animal Man work elegantly in Heroscape?", I came up with the solution of just having a stand alone Army Card with a detailed list of the powers Animal Man could choose to use [and used frequently in the comics]. My primary goal was to keep the powers themselves SIMPLE and use already existing Heroscape Powers as much as possible.

I even went to the trouble of researching the number of rounds a Webley can hold... it is indeed 6.

I wanted to give him a GRENADE Special Attack, but I ran out of room on his Army Card, so I went with Counter Strike. The guy has all kinds of tricks up his sleeves, or rather in that big utility belt.

I've been busy today!

Here is Klarion Bleak, better known as KLARION THE WITCH BOY. originally a Jack Kirby creation, I based my custom mainly on the version that appeared in the Batman - The Animated Series episode 'The Demon Within'. I already liked the character, and the miniature available from the HeroClix line is both cheap and very well sculpted, but ultimately my decision to create a Klarion custom is all thanks to Sherman Davies, who threw down the gauntlet in his custom thread when I dared to compliment his Etrigan The Demon and mentioned that Klarion would be a great complement to it.

Man, that Klarion's a creepy lookin' figure...

Anyway, glad to be of service, although I'm sure you would've designed a custom for him on your own at some point, anyway.

Klarion looks good (I especially like the unusual combination of base stats he has - his life, move, range, attack and defense are all different numbers, something you don't see much), but I don't think he's worth 160 points. He has limited, non-guaranteed bonding (that works on opposing figures, true, but only if they're Demons) and two special attacks, one of which has a drawback and is not particularly overpowered to begin with. I'd place him closer to 110-130 points.

Also, under the Demon Brand power, the words "currently on the board" are redundant. You're not pressed for space on the card, but if you were you could take those words out without any problem.
