David: “Howdy do, Sports Fans! I hope you remember your PIN number, because we’re taking our next group of misfits to the bank. Joining me is my good friend, Bob!”
Bob: “Thanks, David. I see you’re giving your battle mats a workout. First you used it for a freeway, and now it’s a bank setting. What’s with the dominoes?”
David: “I want to use the same layout for the upcoming set of battles, and leaving wet erase markers for a length of time on a vinyl mat could leave permanent stains. So I’m using these dominoes to indicate walls and openings. We have two different banks, and each team will begin by trying to crack open the bank’s vault in their respective bank. The vault shares the same stats as the Heroscape Fortress Door. Neither team is permitted to leave the vault area unless at least one vault is opened.
“Once a vault is opened, that team can assign a Loot Glyph to one of its Heroes. A Hero with the Loot receives a +1 attack bonus, or +2 if the Hero is on the side that opened their vault first. A Hero may hold both Loot Glyphs. A Hero with both Glyphs will get +2 (or +3 if on the team that opened their vault first) and will only lose one Loot at a time if wounded.
“Combat may commence once one of the vaults is opened. The other team may continue striking at their vault in order to obtain their Loot. The game ends if one team destroys the other, or if one team can obtain both Loot glyphs and exit the map via the roadway. It’s only necessary for members with the Loot to exit to trigger this victory condition. What do you think?”
Bob: “That sounds interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing this in action.”
Off-camera announcer: “This safe crackin’ battle is brought to you by Burt’s Beer. Burt’s Beer: If you drink too much, your stomach might make an early withdrawal.”
Team Deadshot vs. Team Scorpion
Spoiler Alert!
David: “Safe cracking begins. Weather Wizard and Scorpion will strike at their vaults. Scorpion is the first to crack open his safe and takes the Loot. Scorpion’s team heads towards the other bank, where Weather Wizard finally opens his vault. Deadshot takes the Loot.”
Round 1
Bob: “Capt. Boomerang takes position in the main lobby.”
David: “Weather Wizard moves.”
Bob: “Heat Wave enters the bank’s lobby.”
David: “Pied Piper exits the vault into the security room and blasts his Sonic Flute at Scorpion, who is standing in front of the doorway. He only blows air. So he gives a turn to the Rats, which do what rats do.”
Round 2
David: “Pied Piper wets his lips and tries his Flute again. Scorpion takes a wound, which allows Pied Piper to control him. Scorpion moves toward Heat Wave and strikes him with his Acid Tail Blast. It whiffs.”
Bob: “Scorpion didn’t like the tune Pied Piper played, so he enters the security room to strike Pied Piper with his normal attack for 2 wounds (2 left). His Tail Whip allows him to also take out one of the Rats (6 remaining).”
David: “Pied Piper pulls back and plays another tune at Scorpion. Scorpion simply plugs his ears. So three Rats swarm Scorpion to no effect. With the second Rat turn from bonding, two Rats successfully disengage from Scorpion to engage all three members of Scorpion’s team. Scorpion takes a Plague wound (3 left), and the Loot flies into the vault.”
Bob: “Heat Wave takes a wound while breaking engagement with the Rat (3 left), but he fires his Flamethrower into the security room. That kills both a Rat (5 remaining) and Pied Piper.”
David: “That roasted Rat smells pretty tasty. Deadshot picks up the Loot lying on the floor, and now has both Glyphs! If he can escape the map, his team can win without destroying the other side. However, breaking engagement will be chancy. He fires at Scorpion. It’s 2 wounds (1 left), and that triggers Finish the Job for a second attack! It’s blocked.”
Bob: “Heat Wave decides to cook two more Rats in the lobby with his Flamethrower (3 remaining).”
David: “I’m hunnnnnngry!”
Round 3
Bob: “Scorpion fails to take down the Rat next to him!”
David: “Deadshot fires at Scorpion. Since he didn’t move, that triggers his Sniper Targeting for an auto skull. Scorpion blocks.”
Bob: “Capt. Boomerang fires at the Rat next to Scorpion, but it’s blocked. So he fires again with his Returning Boomerang, but the Rat blocks both skulls!!”
David: “You dirty Rat! (laughs) Rats move, but no damage.”
Bob: “The Rats are all lined in a row, which provides a perfect opportunity for Heat Wave’s Flamethrower. That cooks all three Rats (0 remaining). David, you seriously don’t like eating rats, do you?”
David: “No, but that smell is fantastic! Ok, Deadshot fires at Scorpion with Sniper Targeting, but Scorpion blocks. Deadshot simply isn’t finishing the job!”
Round 4
Bob: “Scorpion enters the Vault and engages Deadshot and Weather Wizard. He strikes at Weather Wizard to deliver 2 wounds (2 left). Deadshot takes a wound from the Tail Whip (3 left), and one of the Loot flies away. Uh, David, I just realized that you’ve been forgetting Deadshot’s +2 bonus for having both Loot Glyphs.”
David (groans): “Grrr. Deadshot can safely disengage from Scorpion thanks to Weather Wizard’s Blinding Rain. He picks up the Loot and fires at Heat Wave with his +2 bonus. Heat Wave takes a wound (2 left).”
Bob: “Heat Wave stands in the doorway and fires at Deadshot, but it’s blocked.”
David: “Weather Wizard zaps Scorpion with a bolt of Lightning. Weather Wizard finished the job!”
Bob: “Capt. Boomerang can’t move past Heat Wave, who is blocking the doorway!”
David: “I haven’t discussed the rules I’ve created for facing and line of sight, but you do have to manage your order markers and movement to prevent these types of situations! Deadshot fires at Heat Wave with his +2 Loot and Sniper Targeting bonuses. That’s KO for Mr. Toasty!”
Round 5
Bob: “Capt. Boomerang fires his Razor Boomerang at Deadshot. Deadshot blocks the attack, but the Boomerang delivers a wound from the ricochet (2 left). One of the Loot lands next to Capt. Boomerang.”
David: “A +1 bonus can still give Deadshot a nice Sniper attack and delivers 2 wounds (2 left).”
Bob: “Capt. Boomerang opts not to pick up the Loot, as it would place him out of sight for an attack. He tosses another Razor Boomerang at Deadshot. Deadshot is protected by Weather Wizard’s Fog Cover. I've been forgetting to check that."
David: “Deadshot moves towards Capt. Boomerang and attacks. It’s 2 wounds and KO! He and his roasted rats will advance.”
