INFECTED HOST
This Anubian Alpha does not start the game on the battlefield. It can only be placed on the battlefield using the Shapeshift special power.

SHAPESHIFT
When a Common small or medium Wolf you control is destroyed by an opponent, you may place that Wolf on this Army Card. The Wolf figure placed on this card is the Host for this Anubian Alpha. Place this Anubian Alpha on the space the Host figure previously occupied. This Anubian Alpha may use the special powers of the Host Wolf figure's Army Card. When this Anubian Alpha is destroyed the Host is also destroyed.

PACK ALPHA
Instead of taking a turn with a full squad of this Anubian Alpha's Host, you may include this Anubian Alpha as one member of that Squad instead of one of the Squad figures. Only one Anubian Alpha can be included as a member of a Wolf Squad each turn.

Character Bio:
Years ago the arrival of the gigantic Werewolf Lords of Eberron brought a third race of wolves into Utgar’s ranks. Adding to the contingent of Wolves of Badru and the Anubian Wolves, the mystical Werewolf Lords brought with them the taint of lycanthrope.

With the ability to spread the curse of lycanthrope through its fangs and claws, the Werewolves were greatly feared by the other generals. Valiant warriors and even the most disciplined soldiers were overcome by the magical disease and turned upon their comrades with uncontrollable fury. While the wizards and healers of Ullar and Jandar sought a cure for their fallen, the Werewolf Lords explored ways to enhance their own dark forces.

As trials for dominance continued between the three wolf races, the Wolves of Badru quickly bowed to serve the Eberron Lords. The Anubian Wolves however were not so easily swayed and battles between their pack leaders and Werewolf Lords were ferocious. Many Anubians fell, grievously wounded and now infected with lycanthrope. Some never recovered, while others underwent a horrific transformation into a new breed of hybrid wolf. These hybrids were stronger, tougher, and more vicious than before. They were in touch with the magic of the Werewolf Lords but also influenced by the lunar magic of Valhalla’s moons. They quickly dominated their packs rising to the position of Alpha, but ultimately they were lieutenants to the Werewolf Lords.

The Anubian Alphas retained their battle fury but they also gained the ability to shapeshift into other wolves. This included the Wolves of Badru but also the Varkaanan Wolves from Grut or into their previous Anubian Wolf forms. And while they could not pass on the full power of lycanthrope to others, they could influence the minds of other wolves to follow their commands.

In battle, the Alphas use their shapeshifting powers to conceal their command role. Once wounded in the fray, the Alphas unleash their rage and reveal their true form, often taking their attacker by surprise. Their howls and psychic commands drive their pack to increased savagery and victory in the name of Utgar.

- Rulings and Clarifications -

Quote:
If the entire Squad has been destroyed, and the AA is left, can he still use the Squad figure's power?
Yes, the intent is that the Alpha can use the power on another Army Card. Our assumption is that even if all of the figures from the card are destroyed you can still reference the card (like Finn's Spirit).

Quote:
When you use Pack Alpha, is his base attack and move the same as his card's, or the Squad's? If it's the former, it doesn't seem like Unleashed Fury will help him (since it adds to the "attack value of this card").
You use the Stats on the Alpha's card, so base attack 3 + Unleash Fury if you are using Anubian Wolves.

I can see what you mean by the "add to this card." The intent is that the Alpha has the powers of its Host and is included with that squad's powers. So when if you roll for Unleash Fury for the Wolves, you get that attack bonus to their card and to the Alpha's card. So a roll of 12 adds +3 attack to the Wolves (going to Attack 4) and +3 to the Alpha (going to 6 attack).

We also wanted the Alpha to work with multiple Wolf squads - so we tried to be generic enough with word to cover Badru and Blade-Dancers.

Quote:
Also, a potentially odd corner case. Let's say he's replaced an Anubian Wolf and you don't have Khosumet. You decide to go for broke and roll for Unleashed Fury and you get a 1. You have to destroy "an Anubian Wolf" but technically you don't have any. Thematically I would say that you destroy the Anubian Alpha.
Yes, I agree that you would destroy the Anubian Alpha.

Not that if you roll for Unleash Fury and roll a 1 and a Wolf is destroyed, you cannot replace with an Alpha .. because the Alpha only pops onto the battlefield when an opponent destroys a Wolf.

And for Badru Alpha's - if you use Pounce and fail to destroy, you do destroy the Alpha.
