The Fall and Rise of Doctor Doom

With a demonstration of the power of the destructible objects, they took down Jean Grey and sent Cyclops back to Professor X as a warning.
“That’s the Baxter Building!” Molly Hayes cheers as she approaches the headquarters for the Fantastic Four. She begged Professor Xavier to take her along, as she always wanted to meet the group. She was especially anxious to meet Thing.
Professor X, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and a badly shaken Cyclops accompany her. They are more somber. Jean Grey had finally been extracted from Flash Fire by the X-Men and was in the hospital, and she was very much in the minds of the group.
“Just keep in mind,” Professor X finally says. “We’re also created by C3G. And C3G has experience in creating balanced units. Whatever abilities they have given Dr. Doom, you can count on the fact that they also gave us the capability of taking him down.”
That seems to have lightened the mood of the groups somewhat. Cyclops nods approvingly. “I’m looking forward to meeting the Fantastic Four. They were produced at the same time as Dr. Doom, and I’m sure they have the experience to take him down.”
“Yes,” Beast replies. “That is why I think we should brief them on our encounter, and we should let them take him down.”
“Jean Grey was such a vital reason for our success against the other Dr. Doom,” Cyclops says. “I would rather not try to face him without her. I agree with Beast. Let’s give the Fantastic Four the opportunity to get into action.”
Professor X says, “Well, let’s see what they have to say --“
“GO AWAY!!!” Thing shouts from the balcony of the Baxter Building as he tosses a battlement to the ground.
“Oh, for crying out loud!” Iceman exclaims. “Not another ambush!”
The X-Men could see the Fantastic Four in the building. Thing shouted, “PUPPET MA—“ before he was silenced by an unknown force.
Professor X completed Thing’s warning, “Puppet Master. I’ve heard of him. The Fantastic Four must have been placed under his control.”
“What can we do to help him?” Beast asks.
“Ma- Man- Manhole---“ Reed and Susan Storm try to shout. They, too, were finally silenced.
“Manhole?” Angel asks. “There are three manholes in the street. Perhaps Puppet Master is in the sewer.”

Cyclops thought for a moment and said, “Look, we’re going to have to attack the Fantastic Four until we can expose Puppet Man. As Angel says, he must be under one of those manholes. If we open the correct manhole, we can catch him by surprise and hopefully break his control. If we fail, that might bring Puppet Master into the open, where he will be able to try to control us!”
“Which one do we go for first?” Iceman asks.
“Perhaps we should take down the Fantastic Four first,” Beast advises.
“Yes, but for now,” Professor X agrees. “At least we have even odds in this battle. Putting Puppet Master into action could tilt things in his favor. If we are able to gain an advantage, then it would be worth it to flush Puppet Master into the open. Otherwise, we’ll have to make a determination at a later time in the battle.”
“Let’s go!” Cyclops commands.
