Vs Green Arrow (150)– Nightcrawler won with 2 wounds on turn 6 of round 1. Nightcrawler used Teleport Evade a couple times to avoid a couple big time attacks, once vs. GL on height getting a 5 skull attack and another with a 4 skull attack. Those were key Evades and the times he missed Evade, they were only vs. weaker attacks and he only took 1 wound each time. He chipped away at GA for the first couple wounds and then took him out with a 2 skull/0 shield attack. Could have gone either way depending on how TE was working for him.
Vs. Iceman (150)– Iceman won with 0 wounds on turn 3 of round 1 This time Nightcrawler defended a 1 skull first attack from I.M. but his Teleport Evade failed him against a 4 skull attack and he whiffed defense. This happens to the best of them. .
Vs. Moriko (110) – Nightcrawler won with 0 wounds on turn 2 of round 1. She moved out of SZ and he engaged and put 2 wounds on with first attack as she whiffed vs. a 2 skull attack. Then he Bamfed and roll 3 skulls to her 1 shield to kill her. She didn’t even know what hit her. Nightcrawler had dice luck on his side.
Vs. Allastair (110) – Nightcrawler won with 2 wounds on turn 6 of round 1. Again, Nightcrawler had a timely TE to avoid a 3 skull attack. He took his 2 wounds after missing TE and whiffing vs. a 2 skull attack. Otherwise, he was able to chip away at Allastair’s low defense.
Vs. Sonlen (160) – Nightcrawler won with 3 wounds on turn 6 of round 1. While Nightcrawler didn’t get TE to work, Sonlen rolld pretty poor attack dice and failed every Heal and Dragon Swoop attack. This won could have easily gone the other way, but this time luck was on Nightcrawler’s side.
Vs Kaemon Awa (120) – Nightcrawler won with 3 wounds on turn 5 of round 2. This one went on for awhile. NC only got TE to work 1 time out of 8 times. KA defended pretty well for awhile but eventually fell under the constant barrage of punches from NC. KA rolled horrible attack dice, so even though NC’s TE wasn’t working, he was able to defend against a lot of 1 skull and whiff attacks from KA. Double attack could have taken out Nightcrawler when he was failing to Evade, but again, he had some dice luck on his side.

Vs. Einar Imperium x 1 – Nightcrawler won on turn 6 of round 1. He only faced 3 foes, but they all had double attacks. He was able to utilize Teleport Evade to avoid second attack from first opponent and/or second attacker with a double attack. Then he was able to Bamf back and take out the single life/low defense opponents fairly easily. If he missed with his first attack, he’d hit with the second and move on the the next EI.
Vs. Axegrinders x 2 – Nightcrawler won with 1 wound on turn 4 of round 3. Not the best match up for the Axegrinders, but figured what the heck, they had a move of 6 w/o Migol, so with their numbers and mobility, they might have some chance. Not so as whenever the Dwarves managed to get more than one engaged with NC, he would TE after the first attack and avoid the second attacker. Then he’d come back and take one out at a time. I think Nightcrawler can be a beast against low defense melee squads. I wouldn’t get too excited, as ranged squads probably wouldn’t allow him to avoid second, third and fourth attacks as easily as he can only TE 3 spaces away and likely still in range of their attacks. But nonetheless, this was a fun and thematic match.
Army Test 1/ Does it pass? Army Test 2/ Does it Pass? Pass
Played on Under The El map.
Nightcrawler (140) Prof X (220) Cyclops (190) Jean Grey (180) Beast (170) and Angel (90) for 990 points.
Vs.
Grundy (290) Thugs x 3 (225) Joker (190) Count Vertig (160) and Two-Face (130) for 995 points.
Spoiler Alert!
Round 1 - Prof X has Angel Carry Beast to top of El Tracks and has Nightcrawler Bamf onto El Tracks. Two-Face moves to bottom stair in stairwell before Thugs move and attack. Two Thugs attack Jean Grey in her starting zone to put 1 wound on her and one Thug attacks Cyclops to put a wound on him (Angel wasn't around and Prof X wasn't going to use X marker to stop a 1 skull attack from Thug, but Cyclops whiffed defense roll). Prof X has Nightcrawler Bamf from tracks down to street to attack Thugs that attacked Cyc and JG. Nightcrawler was trying to prove himself ready for the field and rolled really well with Flurry SA. He rolled 3,2 and 3 skulls, which none of the Thugs could defend, so he took out all 3 Thugs in one turn. Beast was not to be outdone, so Prof X sent him in jumping off the tracks and into the midst of the Thugs in their starting zone and used his Whirlwind Assault to take out 3 Thugs of his own. Grundy moves from Ruin along concrete sidewalk and lumbering toward the warehouse where Prof X is hiding. Prof X has Angel fly back from tracks to get back to Carry him a couple more spaces away from coming Grundy and to then to be able to stay by his side in case Grundy gets too close. Prof X then has Cyclops move into street and us his Optic Beam to take out 2 Thugs (Thugs are sure taking a beating, Prof X's plan to eliminate multiple attack ranged units is paying off). Vertigo flys to top of ladder on ruins side of El so he can try to disrupt some flying, ranged and Special Attack opponents. Since Beast is in their starting zone and pretty close to Joker, Count Vertigo attacks with height vs. the blue furball and puts 3 wounds on him.
Round 2 - Joker wins initiative and uses Reorganized Chaos to remove 2 of the three OM's on Prof X's card and puts them on Beast's card, who already had OM#1 since he was 11 spaces from Prof X and if won initiative was going to go attack Joker). So now Beast has OM1 as well as OM's 2 and X from Prof X. Two-Face is not to confident with his Flip, so he engages Beast and tries to put a wound on him with HYL, but missed Beast and took a wound himself. Thugs move and attack vs. Beast, Prof X and Cyclops, but they failed to wound anyone. Beast isn't close enough to Stealth Leap to Joker, so he stays put and puts 1 wound on Two-Face. Grundy moved and attacked Cyclops and rolled 4 skulls to Cyclop's whiff. Prof X had his X removed by Joker, so he couldn't save him and Cyclops didn't survive the attack, so Angel couldn't use Guardian Angel to save him. Beast doesn't feel like attacking Two-Face again, so he uses Stealth Leap to Leap onto tracks to be able to go where he wants next turn and be within Prof X's range next time. Grundy leaves engagement with Nightcrawler and doesn't take a wound. Then he moves to attack Prof X without the X marker to save him and Grundy only rolls 2 skulls out of 8 attack dice, so Prof X manages to roll 1 shield and survives to allow Angel to use Guardian Angel to Carry him to the top of the hill where it'll take Grundy a long time to reach. Prof X uses OM 3 to Throw Grundy but she doesn't wound him with Throw or her normal attack with height. Prof X then has Beast jump off tracks again and attack Joker, but misses and a Thug which he kills.
Round 3 - Prof X has Jean Grey Throw Grundy to a lower space adjacent to Beast but doesn't get a Throw wound on him. She can't reach Grundy with her normal attack, so she targets a nearby Thug and kills him. Prof X has Beast use his Whirlwind Assault to attack Grundy for 2 wounds and then Joker for 2 wounds (Beast is really beastly today, nice showing). Two-Face moves and fails his Flip. Thugs move and attack but miss Beast and with a 2 skull attack on Nightcrawler, he uses Teleport Evade to Bamf away and within 4 spaces of Prof X. Prof X has JG move onto tracks from ladder and across to become adjacent to Count Vertigo. She Throws him for 1 wound down to the concrete to become adjacent to Beast. She can't attack CV b/c of his range effect on her, but she can attack a Thug that is down below her and only one space away, and she kills him. Then Prof X has Beast attack Joker and miss, Count Vertigo for 2 more wounds (3) and puts final 2 wounds on Grundy. (Beastlantern ). Born on Monday succeeded already and Grundy comes back with 2 wound markers on his card. Count Vertigo moves to same adjacent level as beast, but whiffs his attack roll. Prof X has Beast attack Joker for 3 wounds, misses Count Vertigo and puts 2 wounds on Grundy to kill him again. Prof X then has JG attempt to Throw Count Vertigo to put last wound on him, but she fails and can't attack anyone with -3 to her range. BOM works again and brings Grundy back again, just in time since he has OM3 on his card. He takes his turn and pounds for 2 wounds (4).
Round 4 - Prof X has Beast attack Joker, Vertigo and Grundy, but for once the mighty Beast missed with his powerful attacks. Prof X has Nightcrawler Bamf 8 spaces to grass side of ruin and 2 spaces from Joker. Grundy has had enough of the blue furry Beast and smashes him dead. Prof X has Nightcrawler move and attack Joker with Flurry (Nightcrawler is not in CLOS of Vertigo, so SA works for 2 attacks that he couldn't see him) and after missing the first attack, NC Bamfs and puts final wound on Joker with second Flurry attack. Prof X then has Jean Grey Throw Vertigo for a wound that kills him and now with the Count out of the way, she can reach Grundy four spaces away with normal attack with height and she kills him. BOM failed to bring Grundy back this time and OM 2 was on Vertigo's card, so they miss a turn. Prof X can now let Angel get into the action and sends him to attack Two-Face and he puts final two wounds on him to kill him. Prof X then has JG Throw last Thug but he doesn't take a wound and then she misses the lowly Thug with her normal attack and height. BOM succeeds again to bring Grundy back for the 3rd time in 4 tries. He has OM 3 and after Jean Grey fails to stop his move with her Psionic Grip, hie starts his way toward Prof X, but will have a long way.
Round 5 - Prof X has JG Throw and kill last Thug. Then she attacks with height vs. Grundy and misses. Prof X has Angel fly to ladder space above Grundy and attack but he misses. Grundy attacks Angel and rolls 3 skulls, but Angel defends with 4 skulls (Prof X didn't want to use the X yet to save him, knowing that Angel had full life and 6 defense with height to defend himself). Prof X has Angel attack with height, but again he misses Grundy. But then Prof X has Jean Throw Grundy to the pavement below for no wounds, but she then attacks with height and kills him dead for good this time.
Prof X with 1 wound, Jean Grey with 1 wound, Angel and Nightcrawler both survive with 0 wounds.
This game certainly could have gone differently, but Joker only got Reorganized Chaos to work one time. Grundy missed a key opportunity to kill Prof X that didn't have his X marker to stop the attack, but Grundy rolled only 2 skulls which Prof X took 1 wound from but it allowed Angel to Carry him away. Two-Face did absolutely nothing. Vertigo was doing what he could for awhile but he didn't have much help. Cyclops went down easliy after only killing 2 Thugs with OB SA. Nightcrawler was good in taking out advancing Thugs early and then he was able to take advantage of his 8 move Bamf w/o attacking to get close to Joker. He got too far for Prof X to control, but that was alright at that point. The Thugs did alright to put an early wound on JG and Cyclops, but they went down easy due to Nightcrawler's Flurry attack early on and Beast's Whirlwind Assault. Beast was a real difference maker here today. He got into enemy territory and after taking a quick 3 wounds, he was able to stick around to really kick butt vs. Thugs, Grundy, Vertigo and Joker. Jean Grey was also awesome as usual with her Throws setting the table for Beasts attacks as well as putting a couple timely Throw wounds and normal attack wounds on opponents.
Army Test 2/ Does it Pass? Pass
Played on Under The El map
Nightcrawler (140) Iceman (150) and Magneto (310) for 600 points.
Vs.
Superman (400) and Batman (200) for 600 points.
Spoiler Alert!
Round 1 – Batman Grappled up to top of tracks. Nightcrawler Bamfed extended spaces to get to far end of tracks near top of hill to be in position to attack next round perhaps. Superman flew up and attacked Nightcrawler who missed Teleport Evade and took 3 wounds. Iceman used his Ice Slide to get to the top of the hill and attack with his Deep Freeze special attack vs. Superman with height but he only rolled 1 skull to Superman’s 2 shields. Batman throws his Batarangs and shows Iceman how to roll dice as he rolls 3 skulls to Iceman’s 1 shield for 2 wounds on Iceman, then attacks Nightcrawler but TE roll of 20 let Nightcrawler Bamf through tracks to middle of stairwell below. Magneto lowers Bubble and fly’s up to second level from top of hill to get within 4 spaces of both Bats and Supes. He Throws both of them off of tracks but only puts a wound on Superman.
Round 2 – Superman gets initiative and because without Blob at his side, there’s no place that Magneto can Throw Superman that he can’t reach Mags the next turn, so Superman fly’s up and attacks from top level of hill vs. Magneto 1 level below and without his Bubble. Supes rolls 6 skulls and Magneto rolls 2 shields and crumbles to the ground. Magneto had hoped to get initiative to put his Bubble back up and attack normally with height vs. Batman and greater than 5 spaces away, but since that didn’t happen and Supes nailed him with a death blow, no turn for Team Nightcrawler. Supes then attacks same level as Iceman and rolls 5 skulls to Iceman’s 2 shields and with the 2 wounds that Batman already put on him, Iceman is dead. Iceman had OM2 on his card to hope to DF attack Superman since he’s the only one with a decent Special Attack on his team, but since he’s dead, Team Nightcrawler misses another turn. Batman moves normally on the ground toward Nightcrawler in the stairwell, but can’t see him to attack. Magneto had OM 3 on his card, but he’s dead, so Team Nightcrawler manages to go an entire round without a turn. That’s not usually a good sign.
Round 3 – Superman moves and attacks with height vs. Nightcrawler in stairwell and rolls 5 skulls. Teleport Evade roll of 20 again saves Nightcrawler’s bacon and he Bamfs away. Nightcrawler moves and attacks Superman with his Flurry special attack but rolls 1, 0 and 2 skulls which are easy for Supes to shrug off. Superman moves to height and attacks with 3 skulls and TE roll of 7 forces Nightcrawler to roll defense. He does decent considering his defense of 3 by rolling 2 shields, but since he already had 3 wounds from a previous attack from Supes, Nightcrawler died.
Superman with 1 wound and Batman with 0 wounds survive to take victory on turn 3 of round 3. Nightcrawler did what I had expected and Evaded a couple times but wasn’t really a match for a really big hitter. It would have been neat if he snuck in at least one wound with his 3 attack special attack vs. Supes, but perhaps if he had another chance with Flurry. Batman would be a nice counter for Nightcrawler since his Evasive Strike could work against special attacks and Nightcrawler would be taking a desperate chance vs. Bats, though if he had no wounds, the most he would take would be three from his three Flurry attacks and perhaps if Bats were rolling bad EA rolls, NC might be able to do some damage. Nightcrawler didn’t get any help from his teammates in this match. Iceman rolled very poor both defensively and with his one attack. Magneto managed to score the only wound for his team with a Throw of Superman. He could have kept his bubble up and attacked from 7 spaces vs. Bats with height or Supes with height, but either way, Superman could have reached him on his next turn and pummeled him even with his Bubble up. Mag’s normal attack of 5 is peanuts vs. Man of Steel, whereas at least Iceman had a Special Attack of 5 to bypass Man of Steel and perhaps remove an OM. An initiative win for Supes/Bats foiled Magneto’s opportunity to put the Bubble back up, fly to top of tracks and attack either Supes or Bats with height for an attack of 6. Ultimately Superman proved why he’s Superman.
