Re: KC's 2nd Birthday Bash in Warren, OH (far too early thre

Update -

I tried out the Amazing Army Auction last week with Mechebeast, Brad and Phantazm. We played a 3-round tournament, with an Auction between each round. You had to buy and play a different army each round. Players got additional money each game equal to the units they destroyed that round, and the player with the most money at the end won.

It worked out well - we all agreed that playing with multiple armies was cool. Our problem was that the bidding was too low to make a difference when compared with the money earned from the actual games, so phantazm (who went 3-0) won easily.

Here's how I'd like to tweak it to work for a bigger-scale tourney (like our normal ones).

There will be a number of armies available equal to double the number of players +2 (example, if there are 20 players, there will be 42 armies). Each army will be between 380 and 420 Points with money added or subtracted to equal 400.

Each player starts the day with $200.

There will be an Auction before the tournament, and another Auction after Round 2. The tournament will be 5 Rounds, so you play the first army you buy for Rounds 1 & 2, and the second army for Rounds 3 - 5.

When the players get to All-American, they'll pick a random number that determines the order of the first Auction (the order will be reversed in the second Auction). The player with #1 must bid on an army (he cannot pass). The player with #2 may raise them, and then player 3 may raise them, and so on. #2 may also pass to #3, who may raise or pass, and so on. Once a bid has been made and everyone has either raised or passed on that army, only those that have bid or raised on it continue to raise. When no one is willing to raise a bid, the last player that raised wins the army. That player must pay the final bid price by putting money with the other armies that haven't yet been purchased. Bidding must be done in $20 increments, and you may place no less than $20 on an army. After this, the bid would then pass to #2, who must bid unless he/she already has an army (in which case they may bid or pass), and it starts all over again. This continues until everyone has at least one army. Once everyone has at least one army, the bidding ends immediately.

You can buy 2 armies in the first Auction. If you do, you randomly choose which one you play in Rounds 1 & 2, and you play the other one in 3-5. Once you have 2 armies, you may not participate in any further Auctions.

Each player may bring 3 of their own Mercenary units with them - one 50 Point unit, one 100 Point unit, and one 150 Point unit. They can be from any Valkyrie General. At any time between Rounds, players may spend money equal to one of these unit's Point values to hire them into their purchased army. The same unit can be hired to both armies, and you cannot hire a Unique unit to an army that already has that unit (example - if you bring the Krav as your 100 Point Mercenary and you buy an army with the Krav in it, you can't hire the Krav to that army). Once you pay to hire a unit, you may play it with that army in every game that you use that army. I'll be keeping track of each player's money independently on their tourney sheets as the banker. If you hire a unit between rounds, you just have to come see me, give me the money, and I'll record it on your sheet.

Here is a list of the Mercenaries you can bring (so far - maybe Wave 11 will have more!):

So - 42 armies is a lot.... how am I going to choose them? You guys are going to help me.

If you're coming to this tournament (or are even interested in it), you may submit 2 armies in this thread. Here are the army requirements:

-Between 380 and 420 Points
- No more than 24 starting hexes (including the AE and Rechets)
- No Marvel
-There must be a clear theme (all-Jandar doesn't count as a theme - you can do better than that)
- No more than 3x a Common Squad, unless that Common Squad is Zombies of Morindan, Marro Drones, or costs 40 Points or less.
- No adding of filler units that don't fit the theme
- No using units that someone else has already submitted for an army, so it's first come, first serve!

If we have more than we need, there will be a vote to decide which are not included (or if time doesn't permit, I'll make some executive decisions). Also, I reserve the right to reject any army submitted because it doesn't have theme or I don't have / can't borrow the units needed (I'll be getting 3x each of Wave 11 and the hero pack, so no worries there. Don't worry about the units I have though, just suggest an army. I can proabably build it.). If we don't come up with enough armies, I'll add more myself out of the units I have left.

Here are my two entries:

Ulginesh - 150
Emirroon - 230
Jorhdawn - 330
Armker - 380
Kyntela - 400, 6 hexes

Venoc Warlord - 120
Venoc Vipers x4 - 280
Elite Onyx Vipers - 380, 16 hexes
