Re: Seattle NHSD 2012
I'm getting excited!
Thanks for organizing this *Kai. Saturday 11/3 works perfectly. This will give us Puget Sounders an opportunity to hit Portland's 10/20 NHSD tournament. If you are interested in heading south on 10/20 let me know and work out carpools/lodging, etc. Peace, Nomad |
Re: Seattle NHSD 2012
Updated OP with Venue: going back to Lake Forest Park : )
== Draft: FORMAT == EVENT THEME – CONQUEST: VALHALLA OVERVIEW: This year we will be trying a new tournament format called “Conquest: Valhalla.” Each player will build and bring their own army totaling no more than 450-points. Each map will also have a Pre-Made army that one player may use in their match. There will be 10 Pre-Made armies with each assigned to a board that represents one of the lands of Valhalla. The Pre-Made armies will be composed of figures that are of lower-power ranking or from the C3V and SoV custom releases. PLAYER BUILD ARMY: For building their own Army, players may select units from any official Heroscape set (except for Marvel) or official promotion (including Samuel Brown). Players may also choose C3V or SoV units that have been released on Heroscapers.com. Once the Army is registered it cannot be altered during the tournament. The army may be up to 450-points. PRE-MADE ARMIES OF VALHALLA: The Organizers (Nomad and Kai) will provide 10 Pre-Made armies to represent the lands of Valhalla. Each location will showcase different terrain and expansions from Heroscape backstory/history. The units chosen to compose the Pre-Made armies were based on terrain synergy, power ranking, and theme. A goal of the Pre-Made armies is to bring units into the tournament that seldom see play and to also showcase the new C3V and SoV units that have been released. It also gives participants the chance to play a variety of armies during the event. For example, the Pre-Made army for Volcarren includes the Obsidian Guards who are great on a Lava-board. They have a very low power-ranking (D) because they are over-priced and are only good on a Lava-board. And because they are Guards who follow Utgar, the addition of Warden-816 adds to their theme. Moltenclaw was added to the team because he fits the lava-theme and also is he is recent release. Some Pre-Made armies are built using a modified point value for certain units, with a target total of 500-points. Lower-ranked units had their point values adjusted to make them more competitive. For example, the Pre-Made army for DUNGEON includes the Deepwyrm Drow, who are a solid B- unit. The Drow are strong on a dungeon and shadow board, but without bonding there are still many melee squads that outperform them. We calculated them as a 50-point squad for their Pre-Made army. With these adjustments, and with the focus of terrain specialized units, the Organizers anticipate that the Pre-Made armies will have an advantage. Thaelenk Tundra .. Snow & Ice .. Jandar Jutangard .. Forest (Evergreen Trees) .. Ullar Ticalla Jungle Jungle Aquilla Anund .. Dungeon & Shadow .. Vydar / Drow Volcarren .. Lava .. Utgar / Valkrill Bleakewoode .. Swamp .. Marro Lindesfarme .. Hot Sands .. Einar Laur .. Mountains and Forest .. Jandar Haukeland .. Islands (Water) .. Castle Elswin .. Castle .. Utgar / Valkrill Who gets to play the Armies of Valhalla? After players are assigned to an opponent and then a map, they should compare tournament records. The player with the lower Win-Loss record has the first option to play the Pre-Made army that is assigned to that map. If they decline the Pre-Made army, they will play their own 450-point army. The second player then has the option of taking the Pre-Made army or simply playing their own army as well. If both players have the same tournament record, they each roll the twenty-sided die. Highest result has the option to choose the Pre-Made army. Whomever choses the Pre-Made army must set up their units on the board first. Play then proceeds following Master Rules. Since there is no time limit, players can begin whenever they are ready. Tournament Organizers can be called in for rules questions, disputes, etc. GAME ASSIGNMENTS – ROLLING RUMBLE Seattle’s NHSD 2012 will use a Rolling Rumble format. At the start of the event, all players will register for the event and be given a tournament record sheet. The Organizers will randomly assign the first matches. Matches will not have any time limit – play will continue until only one army remains on the battlefield. After players complete the details of the match on their record sheet they should find another opponent. Available players should choose the next opponent first based on whomever has been waiting the longest for an opponent, then by an open map which both players have not battled on, and then by most similar Win-Loss record. If possible players should not compete on a map they have already played on. If players cannot choose between open maps, roll the twenty-side die. The highest result chooses the map. Players cannot battle the same participant more than once. The goal of the Rolling Rumble format is to play as many matches as possible and to avoid downtime. There will be a planned break to allow everyone the chance to grab food, snacks, etc. The player with the best overall record will be awarded the title of Champion of Valhalla. CONQUEST: VALHALLA Another element of the Conquest theme is that each map represents one of the historical regions in the world of Valhalla. When a player wins a match on a map, they are considered to have gained ‘control’ of that location. As part of the tournament record sheet, players will track their battles and the player with the most battlefields (maps) “conquered” (Wins) will be awarded the title of Warlord of Valhalla. If there is a tie for Tournament Champion, the deciding factor will be ‘control of battlefields’ determined by comparing Win-Losses based on maps. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP Players will exercise good sportsmanship throughout the event. Good sportsmanship includes, but is not limited to: • Being respectful to your fellow players and organizers, as well as other staff and patrons of The Card Kingdom present during the event • Treating other player’s figures and property with care and respect • No Cheating • No Harassment or Foul Language • No Stalling (taking longer with your dice rolling or turns than is necessary - to gain an advantage) The Tournament Organizers reserves the right to ask any disruptive or unsportsmanlike player to leave the event. |

Re: Seattle NHSD 2012
Hey All! I know some will be coming up from the Portland area for this and I was hoping to join the caravan. Let me know details and all and I'll make plans to head up for what will be my first time in Seattle. Couldn't think of any better reason than Heroscape. :excited:

Re: Seattle NHSD 2012
Longy's + 1 will not be making it more than likely, although I will still be there. Hopefully that seat will get filled from somebody else from the south.

Re: Seattle NHSD 2012
Come on Puget Sounders! Last year we had 25 'scapers at our NHSD. As of now, we only have about 10 confirmed.
It will be much more merrier with you! Please join us. Begging Shamelessly, Nomad |
