Blow up

Posted May 22nd, 2013 at 09:32 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
There are rumours swirling around the strange place that I work. Apparently someone had a blow up, and now there are all sorts of problems and repercussions. I was very shocked to hear this because the person who had the blow up is supposed to be me.

I am thinking that these people have never actually seen a blow up. My brother, for example, used to have a blow up about every two years. He would trash offices, throw computers and rant and rave. He’d lose his job and then it would take him a year to find another one and then after another year he’d have had enough and would do it all over again. But don’t worry about him, he’s a teacher now. That’s safe, right?

They treat us badly as a whole, here at this job. They do little things, like give us company shirts and Hershey’s kisses but that means nothing. You can pat a dog on the head everyday but the dog remembers the times you kicked him and didn’t feed him first.

I generally...

Guardian angels

Posted May 7th, 2013 at 01:27 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
This site is made up of all sorts of folks- some are religious, some are not and some aren’t interested in discussing it. Guardian angels are an odd topic that some will tie to religious beliefs- but I don’t think that’s absolutely necessary.

I fall into the “aren’t interested in discussing it” category, but I’d still like to talk about guardian angels. I’ve had two specific experiences of them.

The first was when I was in my early twenties. I sometimes hung out with some strange people and there was an odd couple – I’ll call them Robert and Betty.

Robert was a full blooded North American Indian. He was smart, talented, funny, but troubled. He drank too much and had frequent emotional breakdowns. Betty was in her fifties, a woman from the American south complete with a southern belle accent. They were not a romantic couple, for Robert was gay but they were inseparable friends and frequently stayed over...

Military objectives

Posted May 1st, 2013 at 01:25 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
We have begun playing a new scenario and are quite hooked on it. I’m sure our enthusiasm will fade with time but for now it’s all we can think of and our Scape games are exciting and intense. In a way I miss the relaxed play of some earlier days but I’m sure we’ll visit that battlefield again one day too.

We call this new scenario military objectives, and it is just that. Each side draws three objectives from a possible five and keeps them secret. To win the game you must accomplish all three objectives before your opponent accomplishes all three of their secret objectives.

A medium to large map works best I think. It gives you more room to move – of course we have been playing 1050 points versus 1050 points so perhaps our medium sized map is appropriate. We have included lots of water and LOS blockers too.

The five possible objectives are:
1) Assassin - before the game starts targets are agreed upon for each side....

The Problem of Wolverine

Posted April 23rd, 2013 at 08:28 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
No serious Scaper can ignore Marvel forever, especially with all of the work that the C3G has done. I would not consider myself particularly interested in Super Heroes, yet they have been appearing on our battlefields for a while now.

T’’other day we saw one of the X Men movies and surprise-surprise a fellow by the name of Wolverine appeared in our game the next day.

Wolverine seems full of potential problems. Obviously the dude regenerates, but can he die? We were of mixed opinion- some thought that if you cut him up small enough and scattered him, he was lost forever. Others suggested that if you cut his head off he’d grow a new head. Can a person who regenerates constantly ever really die? I have read that if you break a leg off of a starfish, the leg grows a new star and the star a new leg. How can Wolverine play in our game if he can’t be destroyed?

The next problem, a minor one in comparison, was that we had no suitable...

PoohScape

Posted April 16th, 2013 at 12:07 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
“I’m scared Pooh.”

“Don’t be frightened Piglet.” Answered Pooh, who was carrying a picnic basket, “Although we are in a Changed Sort of Place, I think everything is going to be Fine.”

“But Pooh,” Piglet continued, still Very Worried, “you only have four move and I have seven move.”

“Yes.” Pooh said, tapping his head in order to encourage a Thought. “I’ve been thinking very much about that. I think because you are a Very Small Animal and I am a very .... not Small Animal, you can run faster, in order to Escape and Hide.”

“What is disengage Pooh? I also have disengage.”

Pooh tapped his head several more times. “I’m sure it’s somewhere in my head, Piglet. I’m just trying to make it come loose.”

They were making their way slowing towards the bridge over the river at the edge of the Hundred Acre Wood....
