Although well into my thirties, I bought into this silly little game. Heroscape attracted me because of all of the different genres, colliding together. Samurai vs. Robots vs. Vikings vs. Dragons vs. Aliens vs. Men in Black? The child like appeal of "anything goes" drew me and my money into this little violent world.
I nearly peed my pants when I saw the Romans come out, I fell into a state of bliss when cowboys were introduced and I jumped for joy when the undead came. And don't forget the 18th century Brits and Americans, the Mohicans, the countless number of robots, the exansions of aliens and the crusaders.
[I was also very excited about Marvel, until I used the figures and realised they don't play well with others.]
The current direction is troubling. I don't have anything against D&D, but a move towards D&D is a move away from the broad scape this game has covered. No new historical units, no new sci-fi ... just pure D&D...
