D2-D3 12 army Round Robin

Hey all.

This Saturday night I'll be having a 4 player, 3-round Round Robin tournament. Each player will play one game against each other player. Each player will receive one of the following 12 armies at random. After the first round, the lowest finisher (by record and then full-card losing points) gets to select another army from the 8 remaining, then the next player, and so on. Eventually all 12 armies will be played. Each army features units from D2 and D3 (though there's a little bit of support from D1 and Classic sprinkled in). Assume the players are of close or equal skill (they might be exactly equal because I might be playing this myself). There will be one lava map and one tundra map, and at least one of them will have an ample amount of dungeon / shadow. Which armies do you think will come out on top?

Fire Titans
Moltenclaw - 170
Greenscales x3 - 350
Shurrak - 510

Bad Moon on the Rise
Werewolf Lord x2 - 280...

Betrayal of Utgar Campaign - SUPER EPIC - Needs your help!!!

Posted January 6th, 2011 at 11:39 AM by killercactus
Buried over in the D&D Scenario's forum sits a thread of my dungeon crawl ideas that was born when D&D began to invade Heroscape. With me not being a huge custom creator, it didn't take off very far. However, there is one idea in there that I think can be immensly epic and super fun - Betrayal of Utgar.

Probably my favorite video games of all time are the Final Fantasy series - especially the SNES era games (IV, V, and VI are my favorite. VII and X were also very good games, and I've played most others). Once Heroscape started down the fantasy road for the long haul, I started to try and come up with a way to make a Heroscape campaign that played like Final Fantasy does. That's how Betrayal of Utgar was born.

BoU is set after the end of the War of the Valkyrie. Utgar mysteriously has a parley with Jandar and agrees to a truce. All of the sudden, he is no longer obsessed with taking over Valhalla and controlling the Wellsprings, and is content to remain...

Classic Continuation Customs

Posted December 19th, 2010 at 03:04 PM by killercactus
I've finally gotten around to learning GIMP and making some pretty good custom cards. Here are the 2 cards I've made so far. I have a lot more ideas for classic continuation cards in this thread, which I hope to find minis for and make cards for soon.

Here is Ardynale - the 9th Elf Wizard. She is the wife of Chardris, and the mother of Jorhdawn. She can also summon forth the power of fire, and manipulate it swiftly to attack multiple foes:

And now my favorite custom so far (including cards and ideas) - the Skeletal Slashers. They fought on Feylund with Cyprien Esenwein, helping the vampire Lord to press his advantage across the land. When these undead warriors are struck down, their threat is not abated. Their grisly remains will slow advancing armies, and those that have mastered the Dark Arts will reanimate the bones, bringing the Slashers back to...

To Frenzy or not to Frenzy

Posted July 14th, 2010 at 04:42 PM by killercactus
I'm in a pickle.

I get to go to GenCon this year, which is awesome. I'm playing in the Main Event, which is even more awesome. My only other GenCon trip had me finish in the Top 8 of the Main Event, which I think is my greatest Heroscape accomplishment to date.

I'd love to duplicate that feat again this year, or even surpass it, especially since I know that I probably won't make it to GenCon every year, meaning my chances of representing on the biggest stage could be slim. So, up until about a week ago, I was set on playing one of 2 armies - both of which were highly evil, competitive, and I thought gave me a chance to go the distance.

Then, a week ago, phantazm21zero said to me while I was debating with him which of the two armies to play, "Play Vipers - you know you want to."

Yeah - easily for him to say knowing that he's playing the same army he's already used to win 3 tournaments up here.

At first I dismissed...

Amazing Army Auction

Posted May 3rd, 2010 at 01:53 PM by killercactus
Updated May 4th, 2010 at 09:30 AM by killercactus
Greetings!

This Saturday, I'm hosting a tournament called the Amazing Army Auction. A quick synopsis:

There are going to be around 50 premade, 400ish Point armies on a table at the beginning of the event, and players will be given Monopoly money ($200) to buy 2 of them in an auction.

When an army is purchased, the money used to purchase it gets distributed to the armies still remaining, however the buyer chooses. Players that buy those armies with money on them later get to keep that money as well.

Lastly, each player can bring 3 Mercenary units (one 50 Pointer, one 100 Pointer, and one 150 Pointer) that they can hire to their armies by paying their point cost with their left over money. If they go over 24 hexes this way, they have to sit figures.

Each player will use one army for Rounds 1 & 2, and another army for Rounds 3-5. A second auction will be held after Round 2.

My question to the masses is:...
