I came across a new idea in a great thread/blog I was reading a few days ago and decided to incorporate it in a new map/scenario. I wish I could remember where I first read about this. I tried searching for it, but was unsuccessful. Here’s the idea: using castle bases pieces without castle walls attached to create visually interesting and unoccupiable spaces. (Is that’s even a word?)
I’ve integrated this concept into a new map which has yet to be named. It’s basically a “capture the flag” scenario. On either side of a low “no man’s land” sits a hill, on top of which rests a fortified bunker. The castle base pieces create a low wall around the bunker that cannot be walked across (flying still permitted) and therefore cannot be occupied either. Although the idea of leaving castle wall pieces uncapped has been used to prevent fliers gaining advantage, I don’t think the idea of just using castle bases has really been explored.
I understand that this is a violation of building code but… hey, what the heck…
I haven’t yet come up with a great scenario for this map. I was hoping you could help me with that. In either bunker there is a Glyph of Brandar (the flag) that will need to be occupied, unengaged, by the conqueror in order to win. There are four glyphs (Astrid, Gerda, Ivor, and Valda) shuffled and placed symbol-side up within the “no man’s land.” Maybe it’s a training simulation Vydar uses to teach new recruits about battle in Valhalla. (That sucks, doesn’t it?) You can probably come up with something better. Help!
Please, let me know what you think. Comments and suggestions welcome. Additional ideas, even more welcome! Thanks!

I really like the map. Do you have a pdf for it?

No, still working on a scenario, Creationist. This blog is where I post my ideas for upcomming maps. But, I welcome you to check out my other maps/scenarios:

Alright. The bunkers look a little small. Maybe you could increase the size a little.

You know, I really like long maps. Maybe solely for the reason that the marble countertop I normally build my maps on can actually accomodate them... >.>
Anyway, looks great! This is the probably my favorite part of tangible games; the fact that you can break the rules all you want, with the only risk being a possible assault from your opponent :P |

That's pretty funny Sup3rS0n1c. I can talk all day about how great the Gencon map contest dimensions are and how I think they make for a great footprint for competitive play... but honestly, I have to admit that a big part of the appeal is that I have a sheet of Masonite in my house that is just a hair bigger than the Gencon map dimensions, and it's really nice to be able to take map builds and slide them under my couch when I'm not playing on them.

I just finished another game on this map prototype. Very fun. Capture-the-flag scenario is strong but I'm still trying to come up with a good storyline. Ideas?
